Upcoming Events Principal’s Message

Hi Everybody,

Since my first day as your principal, my focus has

been on securing our 44-acre campus. Thanks to the

public’s approval last year of the half-cent sales tax,

and the support of our school district’s facilities

department, we have the funding and the plans in

place to make this happen. You will be seeing some

simple, but effective, changes happening over the

next month. Thanks to the PTO, we hope to have

further finishing touches funded after the Spring

Carnival. We already have the most extensive

surveillance system of any school in the district.

Plus, we are blessed to have St. Johns Sherriff’s

Deputy John Tedder and his family live on campus,

right behind PVPV. Thank you to all our families who

support our strict procedures for entering and exiting

our buildings, as well as during student arrival and

dismissal. Our working together is what makes our

school such a community gem. Our high-quality

education sets us apart as one of the top elementary

schools in the state. But we can’t educate our

children without first keeping them safe. That is our

priority and commitment to you. I always welcome

ideas for enhancing our safety protocols.

Your Loving Principal, Caty Van Housen

Pennies for Pets Service Learning

We are excited to host another coin drive for the Humane Society.

Our Pennies for Pets service learning project will run from March 12th through March 15th. Students are invited to bring in loose change. Please share in the fun with your children by counting and sorting coins!

New this year, we are also collecting canned pet food and new bags of dried food. Donation bins will be located in the entry way of each building. Back by popular demand, both buildings will also have a “pet bulletin board.” Please bring in a copy of a beloved pet! Pictures will be hung in a central location for all to enjoy. Copies only, no originals. (Copies can not be returned.) Thank you for all of your generosity!

Transportation has strict policies about riding buses. All emergency waivers for students to ride a different bus than their regular route goes through the district transportation department. Here is the link that explains these policies, and includes the waiver form:

http://www-pvmkr.stjohns.k12.fl.us/wp-content/uploads/2012/10/PTWP-Instruction-05-02-17-Rev-1.pdf

We respectfully request that you realize bus drivers and our front offices are not able to approve these waivers. Also, waivers are not granted for play-dates, and students may

not ride different buses than assigned, or disembark buses at different stops than assigned. Parent notes won’t supersede the policies, and bus drivers are instructed to

either discharge students at their assigned stop or return them to school. Transportation intends to provide appropriate services in the context of safety, security, and accountability considerations. Spontaneous or haphazard ridership of district school

buses is unauthorized.

The Character Cup (Elementary Olympics) is a student centered event highlighting physical education with the goal of linking academics and character education through athletic competition. Last year the district celebrated with 200 student athletes at its Third Annual event, during which participants from 20 elementary schools were hosted.

This year’s event will take place on Wednesday, March 21st from 3:30-7:30 at St. Augustine High School. Parents, teachers, administrators, school mascots, and community members are encouraged to attend!! The Character Cup trophy will again be awarded to the winning team and then placed on display at their elementary school. As many of you may know, the trophy has been at PVPV/Rawlings this year since we took first place in last year’s event!! Good luck to this year’s team!!

If your child will not be attending their ENRICHMENT CAMP you should contact the Camp directly and also the front office of your child’s building. It would be a huge help if you would remind your student in the morning when they have a Camp after school. You might also want to email or send a note to their teacher so she knows where to send them. IT MAKES A BIG DIFFERENCE

PARENTS: FRIENDLY REMINDER: We need your help to make dismissal time go as smoothly as possible. You can help by remembering to let Lynda Wing, Coordinator, Extended Day know as soon as possible and no later than 1:45 (12:45 on Wednesday) if your child will not be attending EXTENDED DAY. You can reach her at 904-547-3830 or via email [email protected].
