How effective is the combination of your main

product (video) and ancillary texts (Digipak and advertisement)?

Q2

Within this PowerPoint I will recognise the elements across my music video and my

print work that helps create a brand image for Nabilla J

Page 3: DocumentQ2

Artist Name + Album Name

The concept of the name originally came from our group member who

was acting as the singer in our music video. In acting out the role, she ended becoming the

singer and so we based the artist name on her. The name had to appeal to our target market so

we added the J to make it easy to remember. Whereas, the album name

was decided because our artist isn’t your conventional indie-pop artist, while she can be

innocent she can also be assertive and bold.

Within my Digipak and advert you will find I deliberately kept the style of font and colour the

same for the artist name and album name. I figured it would be greatly important for there to

be a link between my ancillary products. The only difference that is presented is the change

of position and size. I have kept the same album name and artist name across

all my media products.

In creating my advert, I used the same image from my album cover so that I wouldn’t have to include my album product on my advert. While using Photoshop I used a series of effects on my image so when I wanted to use the album cover onmy advert, I inserted all the same effects so that the lighting would look exactly the same. If my advert was placed ina magazine I would want it to stand out so people are drawn to look at it- so while I used the same image I didin fact change how the “Nabilla J” and “Filthy Angel” looked so that the colourswould catch your eyes against the contrasting white and black backdrops. Myalbum cover image which is also on the advert uses a medium long shot, which gaveme the opportunity to show almost all ofNabilla J and the environment behind her.

Location of ancillary products and music video

The similarities between my ancillary products and music video are also visible in terms of using the same location. Paget St was one of our main locations in our music video and because the vibe of the area was good, it was only obvious to go and use the same place as the location for our album cover as well.

Outfit and HairstylesOn the left hand side, you will find that the red circles are used to represent the hairstyles of Nabilla J. While the last picture with the post stick notes represents a more wilder hairstyle it is use to signify that Nabilla J has an outgoing personality. The main hairstyle associated with Nabilla J are the first two on the left hand side- where her hair is styled to only one side, this hairstyle has been used as part of the music video and ancillary products and is likely to be the brand image. Whereas, on the right hand side the first picture is seen as part of the music video and the second for the ancillary work. You will find a recognizable link in outfits through keeping the leather jacket as part of her image to denote a edgy personality.

Colour Scheme

When researching the consistency between ancillary products I found that artists usually have a colour scheme they use throughout their promotion. In keeping with this, my colour scheme was black, white and blue. The colour blue wasn’t planned but when I selected colour picker and clicked on the car it came up and I really liked how it went with my Digipak. It is evident that I continued the colour scheme onto my advert- however when creating my advert I felt it all looked too matching so I though I would be creative and selected another colour for “The Debut Album”, where I chose a green.

FontThe font our group decided to use were KG Seven Sixteen and Arial. The first picture featuring track listing on the left shows the font KG Seven Sixteen, where I constantly used it throughout my ancillary products as I liked how it has a handwritten effect. Also the bottom picture from the magazine advert shows me using Arial, the reason why Arial was selected was because our group were looking at the Lana Del Rey album which shows a big bold font as her name stretching across the top of her album- with my album I never ended up creating it like Lana Del Rey’s but even so I used Arial to have a contrasting font theme.

Target AudienceMy target audience are those who like the indie-pop genre. It is mainly targeted at

teenage girls and young adults from the ages of 13- 25. I think my target audience will be

attracted to the presentation of my digipak as its eye catching and girly yet not too girly. My

audience feedback from my digipak were pleased with the message written inside

saying its very inspirational and allows fans to connect with Nabilla J on a personal level.

Where will the Digipak, advert and music video be shown?

My music video will be featured across a variety of music channels which appeal to our target audience. These

channels will consist of MTV, 4 Music and VH1 etc. As for radio channels the song will be played on Capital FM and

will be shown online on YouTube. Whereas, the digipak will be available for purchase on ITunes and HMV. My magazine advert will be displayed in magazines like NME and Rolling Stones and will also be promoted across public transport

and billboards. In using all these different ways to issue our music video, it will help Nabilla J’s brand and will create her

a secure fan base.

To conclude, this PowerPoint demonstrates how my main

product and ancillary products contain recognizable links through

presentation which will help to create a brand image for Nabilla J.
