To design & develop ever built “tallest” man made free standing structure.

• Tallest existing free standing structure ever built:

829.8 m ( 2,722 ft )

• Building with the most nos. of floors : 163 can

accommodate about 35,000 people at a time

• World’s highest elevator installation having speed

of 35 km/hr carries about 46 people at a time

• World’s longest travel distance elevators : 504 m

• World’s highest service /firemen elevator

• World’s highest installation of

an aluminum and glass facade : 512 m

• World’s highest swimming pool : 77th floor

• World’s highest restaurant : 122nd floor

• World’s highest nightclub : 143rd floor

• World’s highest mosque : 158th floor

The soil stratum of Dubai is very week so they had to excavate very deep to get a hard rock structure, which was also fragile and saturated with ground water So that any hole made will be cured immediately. Moreover, The earthquake was one of the most important factor that had to be challenged by the burj. Any unknown concept would collapse the whole structure.

Every year the Storm attacks Dubai As the building grows much higher to the sky the top will be badly affected by the wind. This causes a sway at the top floors of the building. The buildings must be in a definite shape.

The engineers filled the 50 m deep boreholes with a viscous polymer slurry to keep it open, which is denser than water and lighter than concrete, so when concrete is pumped concrete displaces the fluid and forms the foundation.

Excavation system for Foundation

Contours of the maximum axial load indicates that the maximum axial load was in the neighborhood of 37 MN, so accordingly 192 piles were buried 50m deep for avoiding the sinking of this structure.

To deflect the wind to different ways & to afford the torsional resistance & the twisting of the tower,

Burj was designed in a Triangular “Y” Shape

Buttressed Core. The “3” wings allow for greater building height by buttressing one another by a

hexagonal “6” faced central core.

Buttressed Core “Y” shape design

Most inspiring muse was a regional desert flower, the Hymenocallis, whose harmonious structure is one of the organizing principles of tower's design.

The casting of the whole structure is mainly done by two materials:

1. Concrete (Low permeability, High durability C80-C60 cube strength concrete having fly ash Portland cement)

2. Stainless Steel to reinforce the concrete

Two largest concrete pumping machines of 630HP (80MP) used to pump about 25000tons of concrete It had took about 14 minutes for reaching the concrete to the 150th floor.

They completed every new floor in just 3 days.

The Burj can accommodate about 35,000 people at a time Consist of 57 elevators and 8 escalators The biggest elevator carries about 46 people at a time These elevators travel at a speed of 35km/hr The Burj has a service/firemans elevator which have a capacity to hold about 5,500kg And this is the worlds tallest service elevator.

Casting

The cranes consist of two plates on the two sides. It could jump from one floor to the another.

The glass panel consist of two layers make it a “Green House” • The outer layer is coated with a thin layer of metal

so that it reflects the UV radiations. • The inner layer is coated with thin layer of silver so

that it reflects the IR radiations

should withstand the heavy sand storms that with in include water and dust

Concrete backbone is naturally 100% fire resistant. More than that the Burj consist of 9 RCC refuge rooms every 30th floor

Collects water condensate from the air conditioning system & provides about 15 M gallons of water per year for irrigation of landscape

Air at the top of the building is cooler, has low density and relatively humid- ideal for ventilation reduces electric energy consumption

Safety & Evacuation during emergency

Water Heating Utilizes 378 solar panels each have the ability to heat 140,000 lit of water when supplied with just 7hrs of day light equal to 32,000KW
