Practical and life-transforming helpQEF Neuro Rehabilitation Services is widely known and recognised for its comprehensive and specialist care. All our residential and day services come with 24/7 specialist nursing support.

As a charity, our rehabilitation services are open to everyone from the age of 18 with disabilities as a result of acquired brain injury, including stroke, accidents and neurological illness. This may also include mild to moderate behavioural problems.

What makes QEF differentWe believe that brain injury and the effects it has are not just something that happens to individuals, but to families.

At QEF we provide the right environment and support for our clients to improve their functionality and quality of life, and we support their families through the process.

We offer residential, day placement and outpatient rehabilitation at our Brain Injury Centre, according to the requirements, stage of recovery and funding or budget available. We can tailor our support packages to meet your needs.

“The neuro rehabilitation package that QEF delivers is so comprehensive and holistic, and in my view a real leader in this speciality. Keep up the fab work you are doing – superb.”

We help the journey to recovery by:• Meeting individual needs: every

programme is especially drawn up for, and tailored to, the individual – no two programmes are alike

• Providing high levels of therapy: our expert rehab team help to set short and long term goals for recovery

• Offering one-to-one programmes: to help improve cognitive, communication, physical, social and functional abilities and vocational skills

• Supporting our clients in their transition home, back to education or work, or supported accommodation

• Offering a wide range of accommodation as clients progress in their rehab, from their own room to a self-contained flat or cottage

Our friendly and informal environment helps our clients relax and engage more fully with their recovery programme.

Frankie’s story Frankie is a lively 21 year old woman, with a keen interest in art, fashion, swimming and heavy metal music. She was diagnosed with autism at 18 and contracted Guillane-Barré Syndrome in September 2016. This left her with limited active control in all four limbs and unable to sit unsupported. Her therapy programme has included specialist nursing, physio, occupational and hydro therapy, art and psychology, and she is now able to stand for short periods unaided. She is looking forward to living independently, and hopes to volunteer with an outdoors charity.

“ I see QEF as my home from home. It’s a calm, friendly atmosphere, and the staff give you the time to go at your own pace, working with you all the time – they’re very patient. The physio and hydrotherapy sessions are really good!”

Life-changing help from a multi-disciplinary teamAt QEF we provide the professional support that will help clients return home, to work or education, or to another residential centre, at the speed and rate that suits them.

Our highly skilled and experienced neuro specialists include:

• Consultant in rehabilitation medicine

• Specialist nurses and rehab staff

• Physiotherapists

• Speech and language therapists

• Occupational therapists

• Psychologists

• Vocational support team

We also offer a range of additional services – art, music, recreational and vocational, adding extra value and quality to our clients’ rehabilitation.

Outcomes – Making a measurable differenceTo plan support for our clients we observe their levels of mobility, cognition, communication, and ability to perform various daily living and personal care tasks.

This is measured using the FIM + FAM (Functional Independence Measure and Functional Assessment Measure) scales. By comparing clients’ FIM + FAM figures on admission with those on discharge, we can see how much progress each person has made in their time with us.

Our results speak for themselves. The neuro rehabilitation we provide both increases the potential for independence, and reduces the levels of support required.

“Your staff have been awesome in my son’s care… he has been through so much. The QEF team showed him there was hope in the midst of it all and opened new ways of managing and coping with his condition. After a time he was able to engage and blossom! He loves the motorised wheelchair, going to the pub and the shopping trips which have shown he can enjoy life as well. Thank you so much – you’ve given my son hope again!”

Paul’s story Before his stroke, Paul was a detective and a keen photographer. The rehab he’s received at QEF has helped him to walk independently using a stick, and his speech is continually improving. His love of photography has also boosted his recovery – the physio and art therapists have him crouching and twisting to get the right angle for a shot!

As a result of his stroke Paul has aphasia, making it difficult to find the right words. However, he was able to say:

“ The difference between QEF and other places I visited is that [the QEF team] are massively encouraging and ambitious for their clients. The care is highly personalised and you’ll find a lot of laughter, encouragement and kindness. I knew instantly that QEF was where my son had to be [and] I totally trust them.”
