Queensland Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, Transgender and Intersex (LGBTI) Roundtable Information for applicants and nomination form Overview The Department of Communities, Child Safety and Disability Services (DCCSDS) is seeking expressions of interest for participation on an LGBTI Roundtable for a two-year term commencing 2017. Queensland Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, Transgender and Intersex (LGBTI) Roundtable Information for applicants and nomination form

OverviewThe Department of Communities, Child Safety and Disability Services (DCCSDS) is seeking expressions of interest for participation on an LGBTI Roundtable for a two-year term commencing 2017.

The role of the LGBTI Roundtable is to inform the Minister for Communities, Women and Youth, Minister for Child Safety, Minister for the Prevention of Domestic and Family Violence on current and emerging issues for LGBTI Queenslanders and to contribute to government policies, programs, services and strategies that impact LGBTI Queenslanders and their families.

MembershipThe Roundtable membership will be made up of representatives from the Queensland government and ten members of the community who represent the diversity of LGBTI Queenslanders. Members will have experience supporting and advancing the interests of LGBTI Queenslanders, their families and communities.

Eligibility to nominate to be a LGBTI Roundtable memberNominations are sought from LGBTI Queenslanders and allies who have experience supporting and advancing the interests of LGBTI Queenslanders. If you are aware of the concerns of the LGBTI community, are involved in LGBTI community initiatives and have well developed LGBTI community networks, we welcome your nomination.

Individual nominees must: have the capacity to represent the interests of Queensland’s Lesbian, Gay,

Bisexual, Transgender and Intersex community/communities reside in Queensland

Selection processes will consider the appointment of members best able to represent the interests of a diversity of LGBTI communities, including but not limited to: those from a rural or remote area young people (18 to 25 years) persons who identify as Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander older Queenslanders (60 and over) people with a disability people from a culturally and linguistically diverse background.

The selection process will seek to ensure the Roundtable membership reflects the diversity that exists in Queensland’s LGBTI community.

Role of the RoundtableThe role of the Roundtable is to provide input to the Minister for Communities, Women and Youth, Minister for Child Safety, Minister for the Prevention of Domestic and Family Violence and other government agencies on government policies, programs and strategies that affect the LGBTI community and inform government about current and emerging issues for LGBTI Queenslanders.

The Roundtable will: work to advance the interests of the LGBTI community inform the Minister on how government can consider the needs of LGBTI

people in the development of policies and strategies carry out functions as requested by the Minister.

Can I nominate someone else for membership?It is not possible to nominate someone else for membership. However, if you know of someone who would be a suitable representative, please make them aware of this opportunity and encourage them to apply.

Meeting reimbursementsMembers will not be remunerated for attendance at official roundtable meetings however, members residing outside South East Queensland will be reimbursed for reasonable out of pocket travel and accommodation expenses to enable members to attend meetings.

The department will convene a selection panel to assess nominations. Nominations will be assessed against the selection criteria and recommendations provided to the Minister for Communities, Women and Youth, Minister for Child Safety, Minister for the Prevention of Domestic and Family Violence and the Premier for endorsement. All successful and unsuccessful nominees will be advised in writing.

Nominations will be assessed against the following four criteria (maximum of two pages):1. Demonstrated experience in an LGBTI organisation/service/association or

LGBTI community 2. Demonstrated experience advancing the interests of LGBTI Queenslanders 3. Demonstrated knowledge of the diverse issues and concerns facing LGBTI

Queenslanders and their families 4. Demonstrated ability to work in partnership with key stakeholders such as

LGBTI and other community organisations and networks, as well as government agencies.

For Nominations to be considered they must include: A completed Nomination Form Responses to each Selection Criteria (two pages maximum) A Resume or Curriculum Vitae (two pages maximum) Contact details of two referees who have a thorough knowledge of your

capacity to represent the views of LGBTI Queenslanders, your involvement in the community and/or can provide a character reference

How to submit nominationsNominations can be submitted by filling out an electronic nomination form, uploading all necessary supporting documents and submitting it via our website: www.communities.qld.gov.au/communityservices/community-support/lgbti

Nomination forms can also be downloaded and printed out from the website or requested via email from: [email protected]

If submitting your nomination via electronic nomination form, we will accept your nomination form without an electronic signature. All successful nominees will need to provide proof of identity and a personally signed copy of this nomination form.
