The Connection between the digipak and the video There isn't much of a connection between the pack and

the video unless we analyse the theme of both because then we are able to find a similarity which is mostly the theme that run in moth media products. It is to do with drugs and the mind. This is a strong factor in finding a connection between the two. In video we have a visual of what can happen to the mind when drug usage abused and this is the same theme in the digipak where it has only simplistic images and words, somehow illustrating the state of an abused mind is, especially when we use the title of our track on the inside of our digipak. This will help emphasis the common theme that we want to run through the products.

We managed to develop the conventions of drug use and insomnia not just through the video but also the digipak. Both products look at the issue of insomnia so this was something that helped highlight the serious issue which we know many go through. The fact that the issue is so widely heard through the lyrics we wanted to display on screen and on paper, this first was done on screen, with Simon displaying the symptoms of insomina (agitated, taking drugs) then on paper with the image of the brain being the central theme which highlights the effects done to the brain.

With our digipak we wanted to have a connection that ran throughout both media texts and that both held the same theme. We made sure that the images used in the digipak and posters correlated with the theme of the music video and thus the drawing of the brain came, representing the effects of drugs which is essentially what the video is mostly on about. The relationship between all the media products is the images brain because the main theme is about the effects of drugs on the brain.

The digipak consists of a six sides which illustrate the band in a creative way. We don’t have any image of the band because we wanted the digipak to mostly consist of the theme of our music rather than the image of who we were as a group so this meant that we had to devise an image that would be able to not change the main subject of our music choice.

Page 7: Question 2 Finish

Digipak analysisWe have a page where it just asks the question of ‘where is my mind?’ which helps to illustrate and foreshadow the sort of music it is and to somehow tease the audience about the songs.

Here we have the dvd case to place the dvd extras from our music video like the spoilers and behind scenes to give the audience more information and knowledge about our band. I have seen this done with other artists in which they include relevant archives and portfolios to their work.

This is the front cover with minimalistic qualities as there is no photo of any band. We have made sure to reference this and place it on our front page to also create a sense of identity for our band.

This is the back cover which we have constructed to make it look professional yet sophisticated which is what we have achieved. We have also placed the relevant signs and symbols to show what record label we are with and the essential bar code to .

This is a side page of a skull which we wanted to place and emphasise our interest in a topic like insomnia and we displayed this using skulls. This is the same kind of topic and theme we want the audience to pick up on especially when the picture of the brain too.

This side of the page we have the case for the actual CD where all the songs will be including the initial song of ‘where is my mind’

The different conventions and codes are easily displayed in the posters that the band/artist decide to choose. In this circumstance, the bands previously analyzed are bands similar to the Pixies, and this is why I chose them. However, I see that they all have the same kind of theme that runs through their posters. They all have a poster of them all together, mainly the lead singer in front of the rest. This is another form of a convention where the lead singer has more limelight than the rest of the band. The music that they play somehow influences the colours they choose for they posters and I have mostly seen dull and dark colours which might tell us that this could be true. They all follow the conventions of a rock band especially when we see the whole band together and the use of colour and fonts for their poster however in some other way they might touch on challenging the conventions and codes of an indie rock band especially when you look at what a typical indie rock band portrays. The mood and colours seem to be the same throughout the band but there are others who break that chain especially when I found the poster of ‘ The Velvet Underground’ and they used a child's painting to advertise their music. This is not something that would usually be done for the specific genre that they are in.

We challenged the forms and conventions of our media product through the display of images and text. We clearly have a small amount of information that came across as simplistic and basic which was done to challenge the stereotype.
