1. GENRE Action emphasis on exciting action sequence than on character development or story-telling. It includes fast-paced music and transitions to help keep the audience enthusiastic and involved - using a lot of adrenaline. Crime is aimed to produce fear and anticipating music is used to create mystery/tension. We have decided to make this into a hybrid because we see the potential into making it more interesting by combining 2 genres and there are also a lot of successful blockbuster films which also used this technique. For example, The Dark Knight and Batman Begins. This way we will also attract a wider range of audience. 2. EDITING Inter- cut help establish the situation at the time. This creates tension and makes audiences more engaged. It also makes the film not as boring to watch. 3. EDITING Split Screen showing what is happening in two or more places with one screen to make it less confusing to understand the storyline. 4. EDITING Match on Action to help create the sense of realism and that allow audience to believe/engage in the film. 5. EDITING Shot-Reverse-Shot to show every characters expressions and makes it easier for audiences to understand what is happening. Fast Cutting builds up tension and implies the energy behind the burglars. 6. NARRATIVE To make our film more interesting, we needed to have some sort of twist. We did that by making it seem like the detectives are going to catch the burglars but in reality the detectives went to the wrong place. Throughout the whole thing, we havent made it clear until the end to build tension and create excitement. 7. GRAPHICS & SOUND We have chosen to use a fast-paced music as the genre is action, crime. We have created all of our music using the loops from Garage band. This help build the tension and further create curiosity. At the beginning we have also made it silent to get audiences attention. The fonts we have used are bold and rough therefore it is very unisex to attract both gender for our audience. The colours are also very neutral black, grey, red, yellow, white to have a destroying effect as this is a crime film. 8. EXPECTATIONS Usually female actors in action, crime films are dressed sexy and the male actors are the protagonist. However, in One Step Ahead we have only used female as the burglars to attract a wider, female audience.
