Pre K 3 Family Engagement Week 5 - April 20, 2020

This week, Pre K 3 students will be focusing on the letter U and the Reduce, Reuse, Recycle Unit. Below are suggested activities that

students may engage in at home.

Questions of the Week (to ask children) What words start with the letter U? What is the Earth? What is the Universe? How can you help the Earth? How can you make a self-portrait using recycled materials?

Literacy The children can trace the uppercase letter U (using thick pencils), in their

black notebooks. The children can paste pictures of objects that begin with the letter U onto

letter U pages in their black notebooks. The children can cut and paste the letter U found in magazines and

newspapers, or printed on a computer. The children can paste the letter U onto letter U pages in their black notebooks.

The children can form the letter U by painting or coloring a large cardstock letter U and adhering pictures of umbrellas and or unicorns on to it.

The children can trace the letter U (in their black notebooks), using their fingers.

Math The children can count the number of umbrellas/unicorns that they adhered on

The children can color water bottle caps two different colors, and can arrange then in an AB pattern (for example, red, yellow, etc.).

The children can arrange recycled materials UNDER a table. The children can hold recycled items UP in their hands. (The children will gain an understanding of the positional words UNDER and UP which both begin with our letter of the week-U!)

Art

The children can create a painting of the Earth by painting/coloring a recycled paper plate blue and green. The children will use more blue paint than green paint to understand that there is more water than land on Earth.

Additional Daily Activities Saying Prayers The best way to learn a new prayer is through repetition. It is suggested to have a child hear an adult read one line and then have the child repeat the line. After individual lines are read, the adult and the child can then try to recite the entire prayer together. When praying, please make sure your child is standing with folded hands, and facing a cross.

Visiting Seesaw!

Pre K 3 is using an exciting new form of online learning called Seesaw! Seesaw is a platform for student engagement. Students use creative tools to take pictures, draw, record videos and more to capture learning in a portfolio. In addition, teachers, such as myself, find or create activities to share with students.

This week, activities are focusing on learning about the letter U, Earth Day, patterns, and positional words such as “under” and “up”.

Come and join the fun!
