Spring is coming! I love spring. I think because I grew

up in Michigan that after the many days of white snow

turning to gray slush I was hungry for color. My favorite

bouquet would be made up of spring flowers; bright yellow daffodils with

tulips of every color poked in around the wonderful smelling purple lilacs.

Spring is also a time when we think of spring cleaning. A couple of weeks

ago I was clearing off my sewing table and decided not to just stuff the

fabric in the closet but to actually put it away. Bob and I have a closet in

our sewing room with drawers in the bottom to stash smaller bits of fabric

and they are arranged by type and color (ex: Civil War, 30’s, florals, dark

blues, neutrals, etc.) I started going through the pile and sorting them and

some of the smaller scraps wound up in a bag and went to our grand-

daughters for them to play with. The larger pieces on the shelf were

sorted according to color family and some of those “what were we think-

ing when we bought that!” went into a pile for comfort quilts. Our fabric is

now neater plus some of the fabric we had forgotten about is now being

considered for future projects.

In the latest issue of “Quilt Life” there is a month by month suggestion on

how you can keep on top of the messes in your sewing room without tak-

ing too much time away from sewing.

Take 30 to 60 minutes once a month to tackle some project to make you

sewing space friendlier and not a place to be avoided. Maybe put away

and straighten all those threads you have used or look again through

quilting magazines you have bought and see if the patterns are actually

something you would make or is it time to pass that magazine along.

Sometimes you actually wind up ‘spring cleaning’ your mind and open it

up to new color combinations.

QUILTER’S GUILD OF PARKER COUNTY

Guild Meeting February 21, 2013

A Sew-In was held for this meeting beginning at 2:30 pm at the Senior Center. The

Grace Presbyterian Church was not available due to a funeral. The books from

the library were on sale for $2.00 and $3.00 each. The bookcases and cabinets

were sold by bids.

The meeting was called to order by President Kathleen Poznick at 7:00 pm. Min-

utes by Myra Hall were published in the newsletter. Bob Poznick moved we accept

the minutes as printed, Grace Jackson seconded, motion carried. JoLynn O’Neil

has the treasurers report available.

Thanks to Anna Addington for being greeter this month. March greeters will be

Judy Bell and Lori Crawford.

Committee Reports: Andrea Killius is collecting second payment for retreat of

$138.50 tonight. Please bring your own name tag to retreat and do not arrive be-

fore noon.

Shawnna Durrett, vice president, stated in March we will have Angela Yost for

Moda Bake Shop as a program with a little surprise (board to bring baked goods).

The guild auction will be held in April and quilts are needed. May will be School

House.

Sunshine and Shadows: Anna Addington is the new person after Donna Williams

resigned due to health. Anna asked we keep Donna Williams in our prayers as she

will be having heart surgery. Shelly Pace thanks the members for sending her

“healing hearts”, and they have a third good report for her husband Harold. Anna

Addington’s daughter is not well, and Anna sold her home and is moving to another

house close by. Margery Churchville’s daughter is free of cancer and Margery is a

great-grandmother. Robin Bolin’s husband is in remission from cancer. Shirley

Robertson, a former member, is in need of prayers.

Exchange Bee

The Exchange Bee is currently trading uneven 9 patch blocks. These blocks are scrappy light and dark fabrics. This means that you can use the fabric you have on hand! We are making 22 small blocks a month. The instructions are posted in the files section on the yahoo groups website. We will be trading in March, May, June and July. If you would like to join us, we would love to trade blocks with you! I will also email the instructions if you cannot get them from the yahoo group website. New Bee

We are considering starting a new bee. It would be a Bee for working on your own UFO (which will go along with the Guild’s UFO challenge). The Bee would meet on the 3rd and/or 1st Thursday 1pm-5pm. It would be an open Bee – meaning that anyone could come anytime – no regular set membership. The hope is that some of our out of town members would be able to come to town for the Guild meeting (and/or if they are on the board come to that meeting) early and join others for stitching and visiting. We are exploring options for a meeting place and will set that once we know how many of you would want to partici-pate. We would like to start in June if possible. Please contact Evelyn Mathis 817-598-1357 if you are interested. Judy Fitzgerald ([email protected]) phone 817-771-4325 is starting a Hand-work Bee the 3rd Tuesday of the month from 10 am to 4 pm in the classroom at Quazy Quilt Shop. Bring your lunch if stay-ing thru lunch. You may come and go at your pleasure during the time frame. Work on your own projects, have great fellowship and get things accomplished. Do not bring sewing machine.

AUCTION TIME IS DRAWING NEAR

April 18th will be our annual guild auction. This will be our main fundraiser of the

year. We need everyone’s helping making it a great auction.

Ways to help

Donate a quilt to be auctioned. Wall hanging to King size, it doesn’t matter what size.

Donate a few fat quarters for our raffle basket. There is no theme fabric or color for the basket, so dig into your stash and see what could be do-nated. Let’s have a huge basket for the raffle!

Donate items for the “Take it for $10.00”. Could you donate a gift certifi-cate to quilt a small comfort quilt for $10.00? Could you donate 2—3 yards of fabric in a bundle? How about a gift certificate to a local quilt shop? The money all goes to our guild for speakers and workshops.

Donate items for the $1.00 raffle. Maybe a kit that you bought and de-cided not to make, or blocks that never got put together. Could you make up a kit from your stash and never miss it? This is a great time to spring clean your sewing space and make space for more fabric.

Help set up the day of the auction. We need chairs arranged, quilts hung, people to help spot bidders, etc. Volunteer for whatever you can, please.

All items need to be given by the April 4th board meeting so that we have time to organize things.

Library News

The library sale is still going on, at the next Guild Meeting.
