1930;

Rabies is an important public health issue and a

priority disease for the government ;

Rabies is among the urgent notifiable diseases;

As a result of post exposure prophylaxis and effective

domestic animals’ vaccination campaigns no human

rabies cases have been registered in the country since

2015.

`One health` concept for rabies in Georgia

2014 - a decree of the government of Georgia ,,On measurements to be

implemented for prevention of rabies in 2014-2018“ ; Electronic Integrated Disease Surveillance System (EIDSS) database and

reporting system - share information between MoA and MoH and providesveterinary, human and vector surveillance for each new case;

In 2013 One Health Team was formed with representatives from National

Food Agency, Laboratory of the MoA, NCDC and international agencies,

which meet every three months to exchange information on actions,

recommendations, progress and future plans related to the zoonosis, including

rabies. Between 2013-2017 an educational campaign was

conducted, during which educational materials

on rabies were distributed among

the population and in schools.

A high number of rabies post-exposure prophylaxis

(PEP) incidence;

A high number of stray dogs;

No experience of vaccination of wild animals.
