“Talent is everywhere, it only needs an opportunity”.

Kathyrn Switzer, a groundbreaking marathon runner who registered for the Boston Marathon by signing her name as “K.V. Switzer” because women were prohibited from running, ran and completed the Boston Marathon as the first woman to do so in 1976, said in an interview that “talent is everywhere, it only needs an opportunity.”

STAFF DEVELOPMENT

Page 6: Race Director University, Inc

Professional Development insures that staff have met the minimum skills to produce a successful event.

More importantly, the urgency for all existing event management and production agencies, among other things, is that the revenue that these events produce may be at risk because the inherited logistics and operations handed down from untrained or unschooled event managers make many communities fearful of continuing with the same, traditional activities.

WHY PROFESSIONAL DEVELOPMENT FOR RACE DIRECTORS?

An epidemic or outbreak like SARS that spread from China in 2003, Hepatitis A and E-coli transmission from humans-to-humans due to poor health and hygiene inside the food tent.

Basic knowledge about running injuries, prevention and treatment. Medical issues due to hydration, weight loss, sudden cardiac death on the run, heat related illness, use of ergogenic aid, before, during and after a run….

SPORTS SCIENCE & MEDICINE

Sports Medicine, Cardiology, Public Health Issues, Sports Nutrition, Medical Staff, CPR, First Aid & AED

Emergency Medical Technicians are usually the first responders to an accident or incident at sporting events.

Race Directors should have advance knowledge of issues relating to all aspects of the human body: fitness, sports exercise physiology, nutrition, sports injuries and cardio pulmonary resuscitation. This category begins to explore the challenges for all race management staff, medical, EMT’s and volunteers who are often the first responders on the course coming to the aid of a runner.
