ABOUT SUSAN G. KOMEN
Susan G. Komen is the world’s largest breast cancer organization, funding more breast cancer research than any other nonprofit outside of the federal government while providing real-time help to those facing the disease. Since its founding in 1982, Komen
has funded more than $920 million in
research and provided more than $2
billion in funding to screening, education,
treatment and psychosocial support
programs serving millions of people
in more than 30 countries worldwide.
Komen was founded by Nancy G. Brinker,
who promised her sister, Susan G. Komen,
that she would end the disease that
claimed Suzy’s life. That promise has
become Komen’s promise to all people
facing breast cancer.
Komen has set a Bold Goal to reduce
the current number of breast cancer
deaths by 50 percent in the U.S. by 2026.
Together we can make an impact and
reach the bold goal.

KOMEN RESEARCH
Komen's research focus has evolved
over the years. In the beginning,
we focused on understanding the
basic biology of breast cancer. As
we learn more about the factors that
make cancer cells grow and spread,
we have been able to invest more
in the translation of this knowledge
into treatment, early detection and
prevention, with the goal of supporting
work that has significant potential to
lead to reductions in incidence and
mortality within the decade. As the
global leader in the fight against breast
cancer, we strive to identify the best
science around the world. We are proud
to fund research in the United States
and across the globe.
YOUR CONTRIBUTION
Seventy-five percent of the Affiliate's
net income funds grants to local
community health organizations that
provide crucial breast health services,
including breast cancer diagnostic
and treatment programs for medically
underserved women.
The remaining 25 percent is dedicated
to the Komen Award and Research
Grant Program to fund groundbreaking
breast cancer research.
TOGETHER WE CAN SAVE LIVES.

We partner with trusted agencies, businesses and churches to bring a mobile mammography unit, therefore eliminating barriers like transportation, access and cost. The women receive breast health education, free clinical breast exams and mammograms and if a woman has an abnormal finding, she is referred directly to diagnostic services.
