RailSys® application for railway infrastructure companies

The railway reform in 1994 introduced a free network access, enabling many transport com-

panies to operate on an external infrastructure.

While a lot was regulated internally in the past, nowadays the infrastructure operators also have to organise their operation independently in coope-ration with the railway operators and the authori-ties (within the regional rail) apart from the main-tenance and administration of their infrastructure.

The assignment of the train paths should be as transparent as possible to guarantee a non-discri-minating usage of the infrastructure. Additionally, the railway operators have to be provided with a multitude of infrastructure and timetable outputs.

The increased demands on small and large net-work operators differ at the most in the data volu-me, making an extensive planning software solu-tion significant for small infrastructure companies as well.

This figure shows an exemplary system structure for a railway infrastructure company with a constant data exchange between various involved parties.

The RailSys® Software Suite offers an integrated solution for the planning and administration of both the infrastructure and all of the necessary data. A central planning platform as well as a registration and information portal, which can e.g. provide a train path request, exist for the information exchange with other companies.

All of the infrastructure data is entered accurately to the meter and can be used in many ways. The substantial components for

a railway infrastructure company are:

with data for official duties (police, ambulance, …)

Based on the infrastruc-ture the timetable is constructed in the timetable manager, which can also display all of the

characteristics of the direct traffic control. The timetables can be issued in the following outputs:

for the data transfer

The direct communication between train path requester and network operator is enabled by the RailSys® Train Path Mana-

ger. After the transport company requests the required train path, the automatic train path search detects the next possible available path within the network.

The RailSys® Train Path Manager is also an information platform. The network operator can publish the daily infrastruc-ture (e.g. closures or temporary speed restrictions), timetables and operational data.

Another application is the strategic infrastructure and operation management. Prospective operating programs can be verified with various extension scenarios and adjusted if necessary. The software enables the operator to request reasonable extensions or to modify or question existing plans.

The modularly organised software combines all of the information of a project, which can be edited by the particular departments simultaneously via the multi-user ability. The core modules are the infrastructure and timetable manager.
