As a professional membership body CIEH exists to help practitioners achieve a shared goal of enabling safer, cleaner and healthier environments for the benefit of all.

Working with our communities and technical advisory panels we have raised the voice and increased the reach of the profession. Here are our 2018 highlights:

• We gave oral and written evidence to the Housing, Communities and Local Government Select Committee on their inquiry into the private rented sector

• Worked with parliamentarians to raise questions in Parliament on the impact of Brexit on food safety and integrity

• Discussed food, Brexit and implications for environmental health with the Irish Minister for Agriculture Food and the Marine

• Worked with the Chartered Institute of Housing to conduct research on selective licensing schemes

• Updated our excess cold enforcement guidance

• Doubled the number of CIEH mentions in national newspapers, with total circulation rising to 11.3m

• CIEH mentioned directly in 3 Parliamentary debates

• Secured over 20 Written Parliamentary Questions on issues such as food, Brexit, housing and air quality

• Lobbied and successfully influenced on 2 flagship Government Bills – the EU Withdrawal Bill and the Trade Bill, working in coalition with the Opposition, cross-party parliamentarians, and allying with high-profile health organisations

• We have worked with 19 MPs and 13 Peers including work with Karen Buck MP on her Private Members Bill relating to landlords and the private rental sector.
