Raising the efficiency of the open education system

Cairo University • Second oldest Egyptian university
• Established in 1908
• 28 faculties and institutes
• 7700 staff members and 5700 assistants
• 163000 Egyptian students
• Since its beginning about 7500 foreign students
• 160 centers
The Open Education Center• Important tool to support continuous learning .
• The beginning in March 1991 (program of Commerce and
program of Agriculture) with 5100 enrolled students.
• Now 25 different programs in 7 faculties (Faculty of
Commerce, Agriculture, Mass communication, Law, Dar al
Oloum (Arabic and Islamic studies), and Education Early
Childhood.
• At September 2016 the number of current enrolled
students reached about 30000 students(estimated to
be about 50000 at the end of the registration for this
semester), with a total of about 300000 registered
students since the beginning of the Open Education –
Cairo University in 1991.
• 5549 students have been graduated with a total of
118123 graduates since 1995.
• 2009/2010 the start of 9 online professional diplomas
for Post graduates (Professional diploma in accounting,
Sports media Diploma, Applied Nutrition, Landscaping,
Real estate rights, Women's political rehabilitation,
Electronic education, Special needs at pre-school and
primary level (Hearing impairment - Mental Impairment-
Learning difficulties - Autism), Arabic language teachers
for foreigners.
• At September 2016 the number of current enrolled
students in professional diplomas reached about
150 students(estimated to be about 400 at the end
of the registration for this semester) .
• 318 students have been graduated.
• 700 qualified members of the teaching staff participate in
teaching at the Open education system.
• 300 of technical and administrative staff provide high
quality services to the students.
• Open Education center manages the development of
about 870 different courses using the multimedia
methods of education’s technology and O E R.
Open education center partnerships and agencies• Partnerships with 10 other public universities (Mansoura
– Monofia – Alexandria –Suez –South Valley –Kafer el
Shiekh –Aswan – Suhag). As well as three branches in
remote areas (South Sinai – New Valley – Bahariya Oasis).
• Agencies in 4 Arab countries (Saudi Arabia –Emirates -
Kuwait – Qatar) .

A) Enhancing the resources of The Open Education Center
Technological resources
1- Servers for about 400000 users.
2- T.V. channel on the Nile Sat (24/7)
UNIV 1: frequency 12437, Symbol Rate: 27500,
5/6 error coefficient, Vertical.)
3- Applications and programs to create E-courses
and E- exams.(about 8700 multimedia hours )
4- E-Information system.

staff .

Evaluation and Exams methods
• Starting from July 2016 the open education center
applied objectives exams for all the undergraduate
courses (about 870 courses) most of the exams are
MCQ and marked electronically.
• Online exams for about 80 courses for postgraduate
diplomas.
