The Third College Day function of Ramco Institute of Technology was celebrated in a grand manner on

02.04.2016. Shri CK.Ranganathan, Chairman & Managing Director, M/s. Cavinkare Pvt. Ltd. was the Chief

Guest. Shri P.R.Ramasubrahmaneya Rajha, Chairman, Governing Council of the college welcomed the gathering

and honoured the Chief Guest. Dr.R.V.Mahendra Gowda, Principal presented the Annual Report. The Vice-

Chairman Shri P.R.Venketrama Raja delivered the felicitation address.

Prize Distribution

Cash Prizes and Certificates of appreciation were presented to three top performers in each year and branch of

study. In all, 60 students received cash awards with certificates of appreciation. Prizes were also presented to top

performers in Sports. The function ended with cultural programmes performed by the students.

Freshers’ Day 2015

The Freshers’ Day function for the academic year

2015-2016 was celebrated at Ramco Institute of

Technology on 27.07.2015 at 10 am. The function

was presided by the Chairman of the institution Shri.

P R Ramasubrahmaneya Rajha. Prof.V.G.Idichandy,

Emeritus Professor, Department of Ocean

Engineering, IIT Madras was the chief guest for the

occasion. Dr. R.V. Mahendra Gowda, Principal,

Ramco Institute of Technology, welcomed the

gathering. G. Nirmal Ganesh of III Civil and

M.Saranya Malini of III ECE presented the salient

features of the institution to the freshers and their

parents. In his presidential address, Shri P R

Ramasubrahmaneya Rajha, highlighted that Ramco

Institute of Technology stands amongst the top 5

engineering colleges in Tamilnadu. He appreciated

the efforts of the faculty and students in bringing

laurels to the institution. He also encouraged the

freshers to keep up the good work and make use of

the good faculty, excellent infrastructure and the

teaching learning process to excel as good

engineers. Prof. V.G.Idichandy emphasised that the

college has recruited the best faculty to impart

knowledge and the students will have the best

learning environment to evolve as successful

professionals. He asked the new students to create

products that would be useful to the society.

In addition to that, he stressed on having student-

centric learning where teachers facilitate and

promote self-learning in students. He also asked the

students to pursue online courses from reputed

institutions from around the world and enrol for

National Programme on Technology Enhanced

Learning (NPTEL) courses offered by IITs as part

of the MHRD initiative of the government of India.

Dr. K. Vijayalakshmi, Head of the Department of

CSE proposed the vote of thanks. The meeting came

to an end at 11.30 pm.

National Science Day 2016

Science Day Celebration was organized at Ramco

Institute of Technology on February 27, 2016.

Several events such as paper presentation,

mathematics puzzle, turn coat, painting, essay

writing, multimedia presentation and technical quiz

were conducted for the students of RIT. More than

700 students participated in the events. A Science

Exhibition was also organized on that day. Around

140 science projects were displayed by the students

of various disciplines in the exhibition. Prize

distribution ceremony was held at ECE Seminar

Hall. Dr.R.V.Mahendra Gowda, Principal, RIT

presided over the function. The chief guest for the

function, Mr.A.Veerabagu, General Manager

(Works), The Ramco Cements Limited,

Virudhunagar released the Souvenir of Science Day

Celebrations and delivered a special lecture to the

students.

Water Treatment Plant, Madurai on July 11, 2015

and learnt about the water treatment plant.

Techyuga, was the National Level Technical

Symposium Organized by all the Departments of

RIT on August 28-29, 2015. In this symposium

five events and one workshop were conducted by

Civil Department association RIT–STRUCTA.

Engineering, Kamaraj College of Institute and

Technology was the Chief Guest for the event

Paper Presentation. A Workshop on ‘Bridge

Design’ was conducted on the 2nd day of the

symposium. Dr.S.Muthulingam, Associate

Technology, Chennai was the Chief Guest. 151

students registered and participated in the

The valedictory function of Civil Engineering

Engineering of RIT, Rajapalayam in association

Chief Guest lecturing on J2EE Programming

with ICT Academy of Tamilnadu organized a two

day FDP on “Introduction to J2EE

Programming” during July 16–17, 2015.

Mr.Karthick, Trainer, ICT Academy of Tamilnadu

delivered the overview of J2EE programming.

Faculty members from various colleges

participated in the program. In this FDP an

introduction to J2EE architecture, servlet and JSP

were given. The participants later developed

applications using J2EE during the session.

The Department of CSE, organized a one day

workshop on “Mobile Application Development”

on August 29, 2015. Totally, 66 participants from

III CSE and one Faculty member from CSE

participated in the training program. The trainer,

Mr.Santhosh Vijay, Senior Technical Architect,

Hexaware Technologies started the session on

Mobile Application Development using Android

Studio.The discussed areas were of great benefit for

the participants as the topics matched with the

current working domain. Students learnt to develop

apps and load them in mobiles. Students were

trained how to use android software for application

development and writing code for the application.

The Department of CSE, organized a six day value

added course on “Mobile Application

Development and J2EE Tools” during November

27–December 03, 2015. Totally, 66 participants

from III CSE with Faculty member from CSE

participated in the training program. The trainer,

Mr.Santhosh Vijay started the Day–1session on

Mobile Application Development, He explained

about JVM, DVM, and the need for DEX files. He

also talked about the differences among android

versions and the building blocks of android namely

activity, intent, services and broadcast receivers. In

Day–2 session of Mobile Application

Development, the students had hands–on

experience on android application development

implementing programs for each concept covered

on the previous day. Day–3 session was handled by

Mrs.N.Nithya AP/CSE, RIT with a brief

introduction on Java and Servlets. She refreshed

servlet concepts explaining why and how servlet is

used with a simple servlet programs. She gave a

brief overview on Java Database Connectivity

(JDBC) and the students had hands–on training in

eclipse environment with Apache Tomcat server

and MySQL database experiencing servlet JDBC

connectivity. Day–5 session was handled by

trainers, Mr.Rajkumar and Mr.Joe, Director

Course, Chennai. Mr.Joe explained the essentials of

Enterprise Java Bean (EJB) and MVC architecture.

training program. The trainer gave a brief

introduction about Java program, He explained

about JVM, Java build–in Classes, packages,

methods, objects, interface, inheritance and so on.

The Department of Computer Science and

Engineering of RIT, Rajapalayam and ICT

Academy of Tamilnadu organized a five day

faculty development program on “Cloud

Infrastructure and Services” from 4th January to

January 08, 2016. Dr.K.Vijayalakshmi HOD of

CSE welcomed all the dignitaries and participants.

In his presidential address, the Principal

Dr.R.V.Mahendra Gowda encouraged all internal

and external faculty members to develop

themselves and enhance their skills of teaching

concepts practically. Mr.Karthick, Trainer, ICT

Academy of Tamilnadu delivered an overview of

cloud computing. The participants learnt Classic

Data Center and storage networking technologies.

In session II the participants learned the step by

step procedure for installing different operating

systems using Oracle virtual box. The participant

had hands–on experience on virtual machine

installation. The participants learnt to copy the

information from one virtual machine to another

virtual machine. On the second day, he delivered

lectures on Business Continuity Overview and

Backup, Replication Technologies and CDC

Management.

The Principal Delivering Inaugural Address

The participants gained the knowledge of the

virtual data center, storage and networking. On day

3 and day 4 the trainer explained the concept of

network virtualization tool and business continuity

in virtual data center. The participants had hands–

on experience on hard disk virtualization. On day 5,

he delivered a lecture on Cloud Basic Concepts.

The participants gained the knowledge of cloud

services, deployment models, cloud service

management and security of cloud computing. All

the sessions were very informative.

The Department of Computer Science and

Engineering of RIT, Rajapalayam organized a

Guest Lecture on Security Development Life

cycle and Web Application Security on January

19, 2016. Totally 66 Students of III CSE and all

faculty members of CSE department attended the

lecture. Mr.Karthik Muthukrishnan started the

session with an introduction on web application

security issues. He provided a brief overview on

vulnerability, attack and impact of SQL Injection,

Whitelisting, SQL escaping and Cross site

scripting. He described the significance of HTTP

Only cookies, Content Security policy etc.

followed in Microsoft. He elucidated that

embedding security into software development has

improved mitigations, lowered exploitability and

reduced the infection rates. He also insisted that

March 26, 2016. Totally 66 III year CSE Students

attended the guest lecture. Mr.S.Rajkumar,

Director-Testing, Mindtree Ltd., Bengaluru

handled the session. He shared his experience in

the testing field in which he has worked for many

years. He Spoke about the importance and need for

testing software before deployment. The

session was informative. Students were introduced

to the most widely used advance technologies in

this domain. Which was helpful while doing

projects.

ELECTRA for the academic year 2015–2016 was

held on July 10, 2015 at ECE Seminal Hall. The

program started with a prayer. Dr. S. Kannan, Prof.

and Head welcomed the gathering. Dr.R.V.

Mahendra Gowda, Principal, delivered the

Presidential address. He explained the importance

of a Technical Association and gave guidelines to

students. He also motivated the students to make

good use of Association activities. He mentioned

the article on new locomotive having 6000 HP with

microprocessor technology. Mr.D. KarthikPrabhu,

Asst. Prof., presented the Association Plan for the

academicyear 2015–16. It was followed by the

chief guest, Mr.Kaliyaperumal, Power Advisor,

Ramco Systems, Chennai gaving a special lecture

on History of Electricity. He explained very well

about the grids in India and the current load deman.

It was very useful to the students.Finally the vote of

thanks was proposed by Mr.P.RamPrakash,

AP(Sr.Gr)/EEE, Faculty Advisor, IE chapter.

15, 2015. The inaugural address was given by

Dr.R.Mohana, HOD/Civil. She gave a brief

introduction and history of Engineers’ day.

students.

RIT – Tamil Mandram was inaugurated on October

02, 2015 at 4.00 PM at ECE seminar hall along

with the celebration of “Gandhi Jeyanthi” and

“Thiruvalluvar Day”. The program started with a

prayer. Dr.S.Kannan, Faculty coordinator, RIT–

Tamil Mandram, welcomed the gathering. Dr. R.

V. Mahendra Gowda, Principal, delivered the

Presidential address. Mr.A.Annaraja, Assistant

Engineer (Planning and Design), Public Works

Department (PWD), Virudhunagar was the chief

guest. He addressed the gathering and inaugurated

RIT– Tamil Mandram. Dr.S.Rajakarunakaran,

HOD, Mechanical, presented a report on the events

which were held during the celebration of “Gandhi

Jeyanthi” and “Thiruvalluvar Day”. He highlighted

various extra–curricular events like Thirukkural

Recitation, Essay writing in Tamil & English,

Elocution in Tamil & English, Quiz, Painting,

Poetry writing and power point presentations which

prizes for the winners of various events. Finally,

A five day faculty training programme on NI – Lab

VIEW Software and Hardware was conducted

during June 15-19, 2015. Seven faculty members

from EEE department and 25 faculty members

from various other departments participated and

benefited from this training programme. Dr.S.

Kannan, Prof. and Head welcomed the gathering.

The resource persons Mrs.C.B.Moganavalli &

Mr.M.Santha Kumar, from National Instruments,

Bangalore explained the importance of LabVIEW

software. The trainers introduced about main

components of NI LabVIEW Environment and

explained their benefits.They also explained

various data types like integer, Boolean, double,

string, numeric, cluster and dynamic along with

simple exercises. Other important topics about for

and while loops, case structures, arrays, sequence

structures, graphs and charts, file I/O, enum,

variables and nodes were discussed using many

examples. The entire session was interactive and

useful for the faculty to appear for the CLAD

certification exam. The last session was on

introduction to NI my RIO and my DAQ with the

few simple demos. This was helpful in motivating

the students to do their mini projects as well as

their final year projects. The training also gave an

idea about publishing research papers in the area of

NI LabVIEW hardware and software with respect

to real time applications. Finally, the vote of thanks

was proposed by Dr.R.Arun, AP (SG)/EEE.

A two day training program on “NI – LabVIEW

Software and Hardware was conducted from June

22 to 23, 2015 for 32 students of III year EEE and

ECE departments. Dr. S. Kannan, Prof. and Head

delivered the welcome address. The resource

person Mr.M.Santha Kumar, from National

Instruments, Bangalore explained the importance of

LabVIEW software. The trainer initiated the lecture

with the introduction to components of NI

LabVIEW and explained their benefits. She

explained the main elements of LabVIEW, front

panel and Block diagram, important shortcut keys

and various data types like integer, Boolean,

numeric, double, string, cluster and dynamic.

Simple exercises with the above data types were

practised by the students. The second day dealt

with other concepts like for and while loops, arrays,

case structures, sequence structures, graphs and

charts with many examples like thermometer

indication, water tank level indication etc. Lastly

the trainer explained the importance of CLAD

certification exam and motivated the students for

placements in the area of NI LabVIEW software.

based learning using ARDUINO” during December

04-08, 2015 and December 09-13, 2015 for II year

A Guest Lecture by Mr.Prasanna Shankar,

Academic Program Manager, ANSYS, Bangalore

on “Simulation Driven Product Development

using IoT” was delivered on April 20, 2016 for the

students of B.E. III year ECE and III year CSE. He

initiated his lecture session with an overview of IoT

(Internet of Things) and emphasised more on

applications in the area of IoT. It was a very

interactive session during which convincing

answers were given by the students to the question

asked. At the end, Ms.J.Taj Din Irfana of III year

Collegiate Club were inaugurated on 04 July,

2015. Dr.T. Ram Prabhu, Ph.D., Scientist

(Materials), Defence R & D Organization (DRDO),

Ministry of Defence, Bengaluru was the chief guest

for the function. He addressed the students on the

future of Mechanical Engineering and Materials

Engineering with the need and importance of

research in an engineering career.

in Power Plant Sector” was organized on July 11,

2015. The resource person was Mr. Peer

Mohammed, HRA, Coastal Energen Pvt Ltd,

Tuticorin. He gave insights into the power plant

sector and its related industries.He also guided the

students on how to easily tackle the interviews.

various colleges attended this program to

University, Chennai shared his knowledge on

A Guest Lecture on “Auto Mobile Engineering

Electric and Hybrid Vehicles and Fuel Cells” was

given by Dr. P.Karthikeyan Associate Professor

Dept. of Automobile Engineering, PSG College of

Technology, Coimbatore on March 12, 2016. He

explained the latest alternative fuels and working

of hybrid vehicle and fuel cells. He also explained

the process of complete fuel cells.

A Guest Lecture on “Finite Element Analysis Two

Dimensional Vector Variable Problems” was

given by Dr. S.Shankar, Associate Professor, Dept.

of Mechatronics, Kongu Engineering College,

Perundurai on March 26, 2016. He briefed the

basics of Finite Element Analysis and also thought

the students how to approach problems in an easy

manner. He explained the importance of Finite

Element Analysis in the medical field where bones

are replaced with mechanical materials.

In order to improve documentation and to enhance

the overall performance in our academic system

and administration, it was decided to implement

ISO Quality Management System from the

academic year 2016-17. By implementing quality

management system, the college could effectively

standardize the Teaching-Learning Process

documentation and also strengthen the relationship

with all stakeholders of the institution as required

to meet the norms of NBA. Some of the benefits of

implementing ISO Certification are:

i) Demonstrate documented quality management

system i.e. procedures, formats and manuals

ii) Obtain global recognition with internationally

accepted quality standard, iii) Improve internal

communication and iv) Set a baseline for

continuous improvement.In connection with this,

RIT – Harita Centre of Excellence an “Advanced

Learning Centre for CATIA and

Interdisciplinary Collaboration on New Product

Development Research Centre” was inaugurated

on January 20, 2016 at Ramco Institute of

Technology (RIT), Rajapalayam. The

Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) was signed

by Mr. Shankaranarayanan, Chief Operating

Officer, Harita Tech serv Ltd., Chennai and

Dr.R.V.MahendraGowda, Principal, Ramco Institute

of Technology, Rajapalayam. The objective of the

centre is to train faculty and students in the state of

the art research centre on CAD, CAM, PLM,

Documentation. The students of RIT will engage in

joint project work under the supervision of experts

from Harita and faculty from RIT. Harita will

provide necessary industry exposure to both the

students and the faculty of RIT. Students will be

trained on practical problems, as the company will

provide real life work exposure by selecting them

for internship. The trained students will be industry

ready and will be productive in their chosen

profession after their graduation. Also the students

will be recruited based on their recruitment policy.
