AbstractThe Rancho Mission Viejo Pavilion project is a 1.6

acre site with a proposed joint-use facility between the community and the adjacent K-8 school. During the school day, the neighboring K-8 school will have access to the recreational facilities. After school hours, the community will have access to the gymnasium for basketball, volleyball, and other community events. This will be a central recreational facility for the village of Esencia that all members of the community will have access to. Given the architectural layout from LPA, Inc, LPS Engineering was tasked with establishing the grading layout of the site and Best Management Practices (BMPs) within the site.

Design Approach● Iterative approach to grade and re-grade the site that

ultimately complies with American Disabilities Act of 1990 (ADA) standards using AutoCAD

● Partitioning of site Drainage Management Areas (DMAs)● Following Orange County Public Works Best

Management Practices (BMPs) to design vegetated and proprietary bioswales

Preliminary Design Results● Establish spot elevations and grading slopes throughout the surrounding site● Determine a Finished Floor Elevation (FFE) for the main pavilion structure● Design of a vegetated swale and a modular wetlands unit● Sectioning 10 drainage management areas● Topographic contours

Future StepsThe next stage of this project will be focused on the following:● Refining site drainage system

○ Modular Wetland○ Vegetation Swale

● Designing pipe system
