The following objectives can be achieved as the club leaders seek to fulfil these: i) Help the young people to understand that God and His church love them, care for them, and appreciate them.

IntroductionThe Pathfinder Club is a church-centred spiritual-recreational-activity program designed for young people 10 to 15 years of age. The Pathfinder Club appeals to this age group because its program features activities that meet their needs and interests. Much of the Pathfinder Club program is built around physical action. This is because youth from 10 to 15 years of age are in a fast-growing physical stage of development. It is filled with action, adventure, challenge, group activities, and provides opportunities for the development of new attitudes and skills that produce personal growth, team or community spirit and a sense of loyalty and respect for God, His Creation, and His church (Pathfinder Administration Manual, 2004).

Pathfinder Club Objectives The Pathfinder Club curriculum of six classes and nearly 250 Honours lies at the heart of the program. The following objectives can be achieved as the club leaders seek to fulfil these:

i) Help the young people to understand that God and His church love them, care for them, and appreciate them.

ii) Encourage Pathfinders to discover their own God-given potential and to use their gifts and abilities to fulfil God's expectations for them and the part they can play in the great plan of salvation.

iii) Inspire young people to give personal expression of their love for God by uniting them together in various outreach activities.

iv) Make the number one priority of your club program the personal salvation of every Pathfinder. The Pathfinder age is a time when many decisions are being made that will affect the youth's future relationships and his / her own personal development. The peak time for discovering and making a relationship with God seems to be around 12 years of age.

v) Build into a Pathfinder's life a healthy appreciation and love for God's creation by enjoying outdoor activity (campouts, nature walks, nature honours, etc.). Pathfinders will experience a sense of wonder and worship as they observe and explore the beauty, the majesty, and the creative power in nature. Fellowship with God will become more meaningful.

vi) Teach Pathfinders specific skills and hobbies that will make their lives more meaningful and will occupy their time with profitable accomplishments.

vii) Encourage the Pathfinder to keep physically fit. This is one important way to safeguard against idleness and boredom. Teach children to care for their body and establish habits that will provide for their future happiness and usefulness (cf. 2T 536, 537; Educ. 195).

viii) Give opportunity for the development of leadership by encouraging club members to work together and share in leadership responsibility. This will teach them to learn the lessons of obedience, discipline, resourcefulness, patriotism and the processes of group dynamics.

ix) Seek to foster the harmonious development of the physical, social, intellectual, and spiritual life of the Pathfinder.

Advanced1. Know, sing or play, and explain the meaning of the Pathfinder Song.

Spiritual Discovery1. Memorize the Old Testament books of the Bible and know the five areas into which the books are

grouped. Demonstrate your ability to find any given book. 2. Have a current memory gem certificate. 3. Know and explain Psalm 23 or Psalm 46. 4. During several worship periods, read with your parents the historical prologue to the book Early

Writings and list the main events of the SDA church or fulfil other options as mentioned on page 26.   Advanced

1. Complete the crossword puzzle based on the prologue to Early Writings. 2. In consultation with your leader choose one of the following Old Testament characters: Joseph,

Jonah, Esther or Ruth. And discuss with your group, Christ's loving care and deliverance as shown in the story.

Serving Others1. By consultation with your leader, work out ways to spend at least two hours expressing your

friendship to someone in need in your community by doing any two of the following: a. Visit someone who needs friendship. b. Help someone in need. c. With the help of others spend a half day on a community, school, or church project.

2. Prove yourself a good citizen at home and at school.

Advanced1. Bring at least two visitors to Sabbath School or Pathfinder meetings.

Friendship Development1. List ten qualities of being a good friend, and discuss four everyday situations where you have

practiced the "Golden Rule." 2. Know your National Anthem and explain its meaning.

Advanced1. Demonstrate good table manners with a group of persons of various ages.

a. Discuss the temperance principles in the life of Daniel, or participate in a presentation or role play on Daniel 1.

b. Memorize and explain Daniel 1:8, and either sign the appropriate pledge card or design your own pledge card showing why you choose a life style in harmony with the true principles of temperance.

3. Learn the principles of a healthful diet and engage in a project preparing a chart of basic food groups. 4. Complete the honour in Beginner's Swimming.

Organization and Leadership Development1. Plan and take a three hour or 8 km Hike. Plan to complete a requirement under the Nature Study or

Outdoor Life sections or a Nature Honour.

Nature Study1. Complete one of the following honours: Cats, Dogs, Mammals, Seeds, Bird Pets. 2. Know different methods of purifying water and demonstrate your ability to build a camp shelter.

Consider the significance of Jesus as the water of life and as our refuge place. Advanced

1. Know and identify ten wild flowers and ten insects in your area.

Outdoor Life1. Know how ropes are made and demonstrate how to care for rope in the correct manner. Tie and

know the practical use of the following knots: Overhand, Granny, 2. Square, Slip, Double Bow, Two Half Hitches, Clove Hitch, Bowline. 3. Participate in an overnight CAMPOUT. 4. Pass a test in general safety. 5. Pitch and strike a tent and make a camp bed. 6. Know ten hiking rules, and know what to do when lost. 7. Learn the signs for track and trail. Be able to lay a 2 km. trail that others can follow and be able to

track a 2 km trail.

Advanced1. Start a fire with one match, using natural materials, and keep that fire going. 2. Properly use the knife and axe, and know ten safety rules in their use. 3. Tie five speed knots. 4. Demonstrate baking, boiling and frying camp food.

nature in which each day focuses on those parts that were created on that day.

 

Advanced

1. Identify and describe twelve birds in the wild and twelve native trees.

Outdoor Life

1. Find the eight general directions without the aid of a compass.

2. Participate in a two night campout. Know at least 6 points relative to the selection of a campsite.

3. Learn or review the Friend knots. Tie and know the practical use of the following knots: Sheet Bend,

Sheepshank, Fisherman's Knot, Timber Hitch, Taut Line Hitch. Learn 3 basic lashings.

4. Pass a test in Companion first aid.

Advanced

1. Build five different fires and describe their uses. Discuss the safety rules in lighting fires, or hike 8 km

and keep a log.

2. Cook a camp meal without utensils.

3. Prepare a knot board with at least fifteen different knots.

3. Explain what a topographical map is, what you can expect to find on it, and its uses. Identify at least

twenty signs and symbols used on topographic maps.

1. Review the basic lashings and build one article of camp furniture.

2. Plan a menu for a three day camping trip for four people, using at least three different dehydrated

foods.

3. Be able to send and receive the semaphore alphabet, OR Be able to send and receive the international

Morse code by wigwag, OR Know the alphabet in sign language for the deaf, OR Have a basic

knowledge of procedures of two-way radio communication.

Community Outreach

1. In group discussion and by personal inquiry examine your attitudes to two of the following topics:

1. Participate in one of the following activities:

a. Hike 15km and keep a log. d. Cycle 80 km.

b. Ride a horse 15 km. e. Swim 1 km.

c. Go on a one day canoe trip.

2. Discuss the concept, types and purpose of dating.

Organization and Leadership Development

1. Attend at least one church business meeting. Prepare a brief report for discussion in your group.

2. With your group make plans for a social activity at least once a quarter.

1. Complete requirements 3 and 6 of the Drilling and Marching Honour if not previously done.

Nature Study

1. Review the story of the flood and study at least 3 different fossils; explain their origin and relate

them to breaking God's Law.

2. Complete a Nature Honour not previously earned.

 Advanced

1. Be able to identify through photographs, sketches, pictures or real life, one of the following

categories: 25 tree leaves; 25 rocks and minerals; 25 wild flowers; 25 butterflies and moths; 25

shells.

Outdoor Living

1. Build and demonstrate the use of a reflector oven by cooking something.

2. Participate in a two night camp out. Be able to pack a pack or ruck sack, include personal gear and

food sufficient for your participation in a two night camp out.

3. Pass a test in Ranger First Aid.

   

Advanced

1. Complete the Orienteering Honour.

2. Be able to light a fire on a rainy day or in the snow. Know where to get the dry material to keep it

going. Demonstrate ability to properly tighten and replace an axe handle.

5. Take part in a simple emergency search and rescue operation using two way radios.

Outdoor living

effort of the party and all food needed should be carried. From notes taken, participate in a group

discussion led by your counselor, on the terrain, flora and fauna, as observed on the hike.

2. Complete one Recreational Honour not previously earned.

3. Pass a test in Voyager first aid.

1. Design and build 5 articles of camp furniture and design an entrance for your club camp that could be

used for a Camporee.
