IMPORTANT SAFETY INFORMATION.READ ALL INSTRUCTIONS BEFORE USING.

WARNING!For your safety, the information in this manual must be followed to minimize the risk of fire, electricshock, or to prevent property damage, personal injury, or loss of life.

All ranges can tip and injury could result.

Slide-In To prevent accidental tipping of the range, attach it to the wall and floor by installing theRanges: Anti-Tip device supplied.

To check if the device is installed and engaged properly, remove the storage drawer and inspect the rear leveling leg. Make sure it fits securely into the slot.

Drop-In To prevent accidental tipping of the range, secure the attached Anti-Tip bracket, underRanges: the rear countertop.

To check if the device is installed and engaged properly, lower the oven door and gentlyapply medium force at the handle end until movement of the range is detected. Continuepressing until the anti-tip bracket is engaged and movement stops. A small amount ofmovement is acceptable at the back of the range top but it should be stable and not tiponce the anti-tip bracket is engaged.

If you pull the range out from the wall for any reason, make sure the device is properlyengaged when you push the range back against the wall. If it is not, there is a possible risk ofthe range tipping over and causing injury if you or a child stand, sit or lean on an open door.

Please refer to the Anti-Tip device information in this manual. Failure to take this precautioncould result in tipping of the range and injury.

WARNING ANTI-TIP DEVICE

IMPORTANT SAFETY NOTICEThe California Safe Drinking Water and Toxic Enforcement Act requires the Governor of California topublish a list of substances known to the state to cause cancer, birth defects or other reproductiveharm, and requires businesses to warn customers of potential exposure to such substances.

The fiberglass insulation in self-clean ovens gives off a very small amount of carbon monoxide during the cleaning cycle. Exposure can be minimized by venting with an open window or using a ventilation fan or hood.

When using electrical appliances, basic safety precautions should be followed, including the following:

Use this appliance only for its intendedpurpose as described in this Owner’sManual.

Be sure your appliance is properlyinstalled and grounded by a qualifiedinstaller in accordance with the providedinstallation instructions.

Have the installer show you the location ofthe circuit breaker or fuse. Mark it for easyreference.

Do not attempt to repair or replace anypart of your range unless it is specificallyrecommended in this manual. All otherservicing should be referred to a qualifiedtechnician.

Before performing any service, disconnectthe range power supply at the householddistribution panel by removing the fuse orswitching off the circuit breaker.

Do not leave children alone—childrenshould not be left alone or unattended inan area where an appliance is in use. Theyshould never be allowed to sit or stand onany part of the appliance.

IMPORTANT SAFETY INFORMATION.READ ALL INSTRUCTIONS BEFORE USING.

Use proper pan size—select cookware having flat bottoms large enough to cover the surface unit heating element. The use of undersized cookware will expose a portion of the surface unit to directcontact and may result in ignition of clothing. Proper relationship of cookware to surface unit will also improve efficiency.

Never leave the surface units unattendedat high heat settings. Boilovers causesmoking and greasy spillovers that maycatch on fire.

Only certain types of glass, glass ⁄ceramic, earthenware or other glazed containers aresuitable for cooktop service; others maybreak because of the sudden change intemperature.

To minimize the possibility of burns, ignition of flammable materials andspillage, the handle of a container should be turned toward the center of the range without extending over nearbysurface units.

Always turn the surface units off beforeremoving cookware.

When preparing flaming foods under the hood, turn the fan on.

Use care when touching the cooktop. Theglass surface of the cooktop will retain heatafter the controls have been turned off.

Keep an eye on foods being fried at highor medium high heat settings.

Foods for frying should be as dry aspossible. Frost on frozen foods or moistureon fresh foods can cause hot fat to bubbleup and over the sides of the pan.

Use little fat for effective shallow or deepfat frying. Filling the pan too full of fat cancause spillovers when food is added.

If a combination of oils or fats will be usedin frying, stir together before heating, or as fats melt slowly.

Always heat fat slowly, and watch as it heats.

Use a deep fat thermometer wheneverpossible to prevent overheating fat beyondthe smoking point.

Avoid scratching the glass cooktop. Thecooktop can be scratched with items suchas sharp instruments, rings or otherjewelry, and rivets on clothing.

Large scratches or impacts to glass doorsor cooktops can lead to broken orshattered glass.

Do not operate the radiant surface units ifthe glass is broken. Spillovers or cleaningsolution may penetrate a broken cooktopand create a risk of electrical shock.Contact a qualified technician immediatelyshould your glass cooktop become broken.

Never use the glass cooktop surface as acutting board.

Do not place or store items that can meltor catch fire on the glass cooktop, evenwhen it is not being used.

Be careful when placing spoons or otherstirring utensils on glass cooktop surfacewhen it is in use. They may become hotand could cause burns.

Clean the cooktop with caution. If a wetsponge or cloth is used to wipe spills on ahot surface unit, be careful to avoid steamburns. Some cleaners can producenoxious fumes if applied to a hot surface.

NOTE: We recommend that you avoidwiping any surface unit areas until theyhave cooled and the indicator light hasgone off. Sugar spills are the exception tothis. Please see the Cleaning the glasscooktop section.

When the cooktop is cool, use only theCERAMA BRYTE® Ceramic CooktopCleaner and the CERAMA BRYTECeramic Cooktop Cleaning Pad to clean the cooktop.

About the radiant surface units…The radiant cooktop features heatingunits beneath a smooth glass surface.

NOTE: A slight odor is normal when a newcooktop is used for the first time. It is caused bythe heating of new parts and insulating materialsand will disappear in a short time.

NOTE: On models with light-colored glasscooktops, it is normal for the cooking zones tochange color when hot or cooling down. This istemporary and will disappear as the glass coolsto room temperature.

The surface unit will cycle on and off tomaintain your selected control setting.

It is safe to place hot cookware on theglass surface even when the cooktop is cool.

Even after the surface units are turnedoff, the glass cooktop retains enoughheat to continue cooking. To avoid overcooking, remove pans from thesurface units when the food is cooked.Avoid placing anything on the surfaceunit until it has cooled completely.

Water stains (mineral deposits) are removableusing the cleaning cream or full-strength whitevinegar.

Use of window cleaner may leave aniridescent film on the cooktop. The cleaningcream will remove this discoloration.

Don’t store heavy items above the cooktop. If they drop onto the cooktop, they can causedamage.

Do not use the surface as a cutting board.

Selecting types of cookware. The following information will help you choose cookware which will give good performance on glass cooktops.

Stainless Steel: recommended

Aluminum: heavyweight recommendedGood conductivity. Aluminum residuessometimes appear as scratches on thecooktop, but can be removed if cleanedimmediately. Because of its low meltingpoint, lightweight aluminum should not be used.

Copper Bottom:recommendedCopper may leave residues which canappear as scratches. The residues can beremoved, as long as the cooktop iscleaned immediately. However, do not letthese pots boil dry. Overheated metal canbond to glass cooktops. An overheatedcopper bottom pot will leave a residuethat will permanently stain the cooktop if not removed immediately.

Porcelain Enamel-Covered Cast Iron: recommendedAs long as the cookware is coveredcompletely with porcelain enamel, thiscookware is recommended. Caution isrecommended for cast iron cookware that is not completely covered withsmooth porcelain enamel, since it mayscratch the glass ceramic cooktop.

Glass-Ceramic: usable, but not recommendedPoor performance. May scratch thesurface.

Stoneware: usable, but not recommendedPoor performance. May scratch thesurface.

Home Canning Tips: Be sure the canner is centered over thesurface unit.

Make sure the canner is flat on thebottom.

Use recipes and procedures fromreputable sources. These are availablefrom manufacturers such as Ball® andKerr® and the Department of AgricultureExtension Service.

To prevent burns from steam or heat, use caution when canning.

Check pans for flat bottoms byusing a straight edge.

Pans with rounded, curved, ridgedor warped bottoms are notrecommended.

Use only flat-bottomed woks.

Wok CookingWe recommend that you use only a flat-bottomedwok. They are available at your local retail store.

Do not use round-bottom woks. Youcould be seriously burned if the woktipped over.

Note: Flat-bottomed canners arerequired for glass cooktops.

Pots that extend beyond 1″ of the surface unit’s circle are notrecommended for most surfacecooking. However, when canning with water-bath or pressure canner,larger-diameter pots may be used. This is because boiling watertemperatures (even under pressure)are not harmful to the cooktopsurfaces surrounding the surface units.

HOWEVER, DO NOT USE LARGE-DIAMETER CANNERS OR OTHERLARGE-DIAMETER POTS FORFRYING OR BOILING FOODSOTHER THAN WATER. Most syrup or sauce mixtures—and all types offrying—cook at temperatures muchhigher than boiling water. Suchtemperatures could eventually harmthe glass cooktop surfaces.

Be sure the canner fits over thecenter of the surface unit. If yourcooktop or its location does notallow the canner to be centeredon the surface unit, use smaller-diameter pots for good canningresults.

Flat-bottomed canners must beused. Do not use canners withflanged or rippled bottoms (oftenfound in enamelware) becausethey don’t make enough contactwith the surface units and take a long time to boil water.

When canning, use recipes andprocedures from reputablesources. Reliable recipes andprocedures are available from themanufacturer of your canner;manufacturers of glass jars forcanning, such as Ball® and Kerr®

brand; and the United StatesDepartment of AgricultureExtension Service.

Remember that canning is aprocess that generates largeamounts of steam. To avoid burnsfrom steam or heat, be carefulwhen canning.

NOTE: If your house has low voltage, canning may take longer than expected, even though directions have beencarefully followed. The process time willbe shortened by:

(1) using a pressure canner, and

( 2) starting with HOT tap water for fastestheating of large quantities of water.

CAUTION:

Safe canning requires that harmfulmicroorganisms are destroyed and thatthe jars are sealed completely. Whencanning foods in a water-bath canner, a gentle but steady boil must bemaintained for the required time. Whencanning foods in a pressure canner, thepressure must be maintained for therequired time.

After you have adjusted the controls, it is very important to make sure theprescribed boil or pressure levels aremaintained for the required time.

Since you must make sure to processthe canning jars for the prescribedtime, with no interruption in processingtime, do not can on any cooktopsurface unit if your canner is not flat.

Aluminum FoilYou can use aluminum foil to line thebroiler pan and broiler grid. However, you must mold the foil tightly to the gridand cut slits in it just like the grid.

Without the slits, the foil will prevent fatand meat juices from draining into thebroiler pan. The juices could become hot enough to catch on fire. If you do not cut the slits, you are essentially frying, not broiling.

Do not use aluminum foil on the bottom of the oven.

Never entirely cover a rack withaluminum foil. This will disturb the heatcirculation and result in poor baking.

A smaller sheet of foil may be used tocatch a spillover by placing it on a lowerrack several inches below the food.

Cut slits in the foil just like the grid.

Preheating and Pan PlacementPreheat the oven if the recipe calls for it. Preheating is necessary for good resultswhen baking cakes, cookies, pastry andbreads.

To preheat, set the oven at the correct temperature. The control will beep when the oven is preheatedand the display will show your set temperature. This will take approximately 15–20 minutes.

Baking results will be better if bakingpans are centered in the oven as much aspossible. If baking with more than onepan, place the pans so each has at least 1″to 11⁄2″ of air space around it.

Using the oven. www.GEAppliances.com

To avoid possible burns, place the racks in the desired position before you turn the oven on.

Before you begin…The racks have stops, so that when placedcorrectly on the supports, they will stopbefore coming completely out, and willnot tilt.

When placing and removing cookware, pull the rack out until it stops.

On some models, the bake heatingelement is under the oven floor. Do notplace foods on the oven bottom forcooking.

To remove a rack, pull it toward you, tilt the front end up and pull it out.

To replace, place the end of the rack(stop-locks) on the support, tilt up thefront and push the rack in.

CAUTION: When you are using therack in the lowest position (A), you will need touse caution when pulling the rack out. Werecommend that you pull the rack out severalinches and then, using two pot holders, pull therack out by holding the sides of it. The rack is lowand you could be burned if you place your hand inthe middle of the rack and pull all the way out. Bevery careful not to burn your hand on the doorwhen using the rack in the lowest position (A).

Using the probe. (on some models) www.GEAppliances.com

For many foods, especially roasts and poultry, internal food temperature is the best test for doneness. Thetemperature probe takes the guesswork out of roasting by cooking foods to the exact doneness you want.

Use of probes other than the oneprovided with this product may result indamage to the probe or oven control.

Use the handles of the probe and plugwhen inserting and removing them fromthe food and outlet.

To avoid damaging your probe, do not usetongs to pull on the cable when removing it.

To avoid breaking the probe, make sure food is completely defrosted before inserting.

To prevent possible burns, do not unplug theprobe from the outlet until the oven hascooled.

Never leave your probe inside the oven duringa self-cleaning cycle.

Do not store the probe in the oven. The temperature probe has askewer-like probe at one end and aplug at the other end that goes intothe outlet in the oven.

After preparing the meat and placing iton a trivet or on the broiler pan grid, follow these directions for proper probeplacement.

Insert the probe completely into themeat. It should not touch bone, fat orgristle.

For roasts with no bone, insert the probeinto the meatiest part of the roast. Forbone-in ham or lamb, insert the probeinto the center of the lowest large muscle.

Insert the probe into the center of dishessuch as meat loaf or casseroles.

Insert the probe into the meatiest part ofthe inner thigh from below and parallelto the leg of a whole turkey.

Because heated air is circulated evenlythroughout the oven, foods can be baked with excellent results usingmultiple racks.

The amount of time required for multi-rack baking may increase slightly for some foods, but overall time is savedbecause two to three times as much foodis cooked at once. Cookies, muffins, biscuits, and other quick breads give good results with multi-rack baking.

To cook food on more than one rack inconvection bake, use CONVECTION BAKEMULTI or CONVECTION BAKE (dependingon model).

When baking on 3 racks, place one rack in the second (B) position, one in the fourth (D) position and one in the sixth (F) position.

Using the convection oven.

Adapting Recipes…You can use your favorite recipes in theconvection oven.

When convection baking, the AutoRecipe™ Conversion feature automaticallyreduces the set regular bakingtemperature by the recommended 25°F.See Auto Recipe™ Conversion in theSpecial Features section.

 Use pan size recommended.

Some package instructions for frozencasseroles or main dishes have beendeveloped using commercial convection ovens. For best results in this oven, preheat the ovenand use the temperature on the package.

Convection FanIn a convection oven, a fan circulates hot airover, under and around the food. This circulating hot air is evenly distributedthroughout the oven cavity. As a result, foodsare evenly cooked and browned—often in lesstime with convection heat.

NOTE: The convection fan will cycle onand off while cooking to best distributehot air in the oven.

The convection oven fan shuts off whenthe oven door is opened. DO NOT leavethe door open for long periods of timewhile using convection cooking or youmay shorten the life of the convectionheating element.

Multi-Rack Convection Baking

Multi-rack position.

The convection fan circulates the heatedair evenly over and around the foodusing the bake and broil elements.

When convection baking with only 1 rack, use CONVECTION BAKE 1 RACK orCONVECTION BAKE (depending on model) andfor best results place the rack on shelf C or D atthe center of the oven. Cook times may decrease,so food should be checked earlier than packagedirections to make sure that it does not overcook.

Ideal for cooking large casseroles andlasagna with good results.

Cookware for Convection CookingBefore using your convection oven, check to see if your cookware leavesroom for air circulation in the oven. If you are baking with several pans, leavespace between them. Also, be sure thepans do not touch each other or the walls of the oven.

Paper and PlasticHeat-resistant paper and plasticcontainers that are recommended for use in regular ovens can be used inconvection ovens. Plastic cookware that is heat-resistant to temperatures of 400°F can also be used.

Metal and GlassAny type of cookware will work in yourconvection oven. However, metal pansheat the fastest and are recommendedfor convection baking. Darkened or matte-finished pans will bake

faster than shiny pans. Glass or ceramic pans cook more slowly. For recipes like oven-baked chicken, use a pan with low sides. Hot air cannotcirculate well around food in a pan withhigh sides.

Convection Roast Good for large tender cuts of meat, uncovered. The convection fan circulates the heatedair evenly over and around the food.Meat and poultry are browned on allsides as if they were cooked on arotisserie. Using the roasting rackprovided, heated air will be circulatedover, under and around the food beingroasted. The heated air seals in juicesquickly for a moist and tender productwhile, at the same time, creating a richgolden brown exterior.

When you are convection roasting it isimportant that you use the broiler panand grid and the special roasting rack forbest convection roasting results. Using the proofing and warming features. www.GEAppliances.com

The proofing feature maintains a warm environment useful for rising yeast-leavened products.

How to Set the Oven For Proofing (on some models)

Place the covered dough in a dish inthe oven on shelf B or C.

NOTE: For best results, cover the dough with acloth or with greased plastic wrap (the plasticmay need to be anchored underneath thecontainer so the oven fan will not blow it off).

Touch the PROOF pad and then the START pad.

The display will read PrF (proof).

The oven interior light turns on andremains on during proofing.

The proofing feature automaticallyprovides the optimum temperature forthe proofing process, and therefore doesnot have a temperature adjustment.

Set the KITCHEN TIMER ON/OFF forthe minimum proof time.

When proofing is finished, touch the CLEAR/OFF pad.

To avoid lowering the oven temperature and lengthening proofing time, do not open the oven door unnecessarily.

Check bread products early to avoid over-proofing.

NOTE:

Do not use the proofing mode for warming food or keeping food hot. The proofing oventemperature is not hot enough to hold foods at safe temperatures. Use the WARM or theCook and Hold feature (depending on model) tokeep food warm.

Proofing will not operate when oven is above125°F. “HOT” will show in the display.

How to Set the Oven For Warming (on some models)

The warm feature keeps cooked foodswarm for up to 3 hours after the cookingfunction is finished, or it can be activatedindependently to keep already cookedfoods warm.

This feature is not designed to reheatcold food.

To use this feature independently, touchthe WARM pad and then the START pad.

To activate this feature for use afterTimed Baking or Roasting, touch theWARM pad while programming the ovenand before touching START.

To Crisp Stale Items Place food in low-sided dishes or pans.

For best results, place the food items ina single layer. Do not stack.

 Leave them uncovered.

Check crispness after 20–30 minutes. Add time as needed.

IMPORTANT NOTES:

Food should be kept hot in its cookingcontainer or transferred to a heat-safe serving dish.

For moist foods, cover them with an oven-safelid or aluminum foil.

Fried or crisp foods do not need to be covered, but can become too dry if warmed for too long.

Repeated opening of the door allows the hotair to escape and the food to cool.

Allow extra time for the temperature inside theoven to stabilize after adding items.

With large loads it may be necessary to coversome of the cooked food items.

Remove serving spoons, etc., before placingcontainers in the oven.

Do not use plastic containers, lids or plasticwrap.

CAUTION: Plastic containers, lids orplastic wrap will melt if placed in the oven.Melted plastic may not be removable and is notcovered under your warranty.

ns Adjust the oven thermostat—Do it yourself! You may find that your new oven cooks differently than the one it replaced. Use your new oven for a few weeks tobecome more familiar with it. If you still think your new oven is too hot or too cold, you can adjust the thermostatyourself.

Do not use thermometers, such as those found in grocery stores, to check the temperature setting of your oven. These thermometers may vary 20–40 degrees.

NOTE: This adjustment will only affect baking and roasting temperatures; it will not affect broiling, convection or self-cleaning temperatures. The adjustment will be retained in memory after a power failure.

To Adjust the ThermostatTouch the BROIL HI/LO and BAKEpads at the same time for 3 secondsuntil the display shows SF.

The type of margarine will affect baking performance! Most recipes for baking have been developed using high fat products such as butter or margarine (80% fat). If youdecrease the fat, the recipe may not give the same results as with a higher fat product.

Recipe failure can result if cakes, pies, pastries, cookies or candies are made with low fat spreads. The lower the fatcontent of a spread product, the more noticeable these differences become.

Federal standards require products labeled “margarine” to contain at least 80% fat by weight. Low fat spreads, on theother hand, contain less fat and more water. The high moisture content of these spreads affects the texture and flavorof baked goods. For best results with your old favorite recipes, use margarine, butter or stick spreads containing at least70% vegetable oil.
