GEOMETALLURGY?

4

Geometallurgy relates to the practice of combining geology or geostatistics with

metallurgy, or, more specifically, extractive metallurgy, to create a spatially or

geologically based predictive model for mineral processing plants.

HOW DOES UNDERSTANDING THE ORE BODY VARIABILITY HELP US?

• Improve flowsheet and equipment design

• Optimise mine to plant performance

• Forecast production

RAZORBACK DEPOSIT – MAWSON IRON PROJECT

• Razorback is a low grade - high tonnage sedimentary-hosted magnetite deposit

• Produces high grade concentrate >68% Fe

• Hosted in Neoproterozoic Braemar Iron Formation - Adelaide Geosyncline

• Deposited during Sturtian Glaciation –“Snowball Earth”

• 280 km northeast of Adelaide

Modified after Lottermoser and Ashley, 2000

MAWSON IRON PROJECT • Largest undeveloped magnetite

province in the world• Consortium has exploration license

area of ~4000 km2 - major tenement holder in the region

• Aeromagnetic surveys and outcrop mapping demonstrate > 200 km of strike length of magnetite–rich Braemar Iron Formation

Mr Tear is a Member of the AusIMM having sufficient experience which is relevant to the style of mineralisation and type of deposit under consideration and to the activity which they are undertaking to qualify as a Competent Persons as defined in the December 2012 edition of the “Australasian Code for Reporting of Exploration Results, Mineral Resources and Ore Reserves” (JORC Code). RAZORBACK GEOMETALLURGY 101

• We know there is variability in key parameters in the orebody that may effect operation efficiencies -• Mass Recovery• Fe concentrate grade & Na%• Rock hardness

• Begun modelling distribution of these parameters in the orebody• Study the effects of this variability and how best to manage in plant design and

mine planning in DFS

23

FINAL THOUGHTS - GEOMETALLURGY

• Starting thinking about ore body variability at exploration / Scoping level

• Have good understanding at the Prefeasibility - Feasibility Study

• A good understanding of geometallurgy should provide a well run operation

• Geologist need to be in the driving seat
