    With support of RC Balintawak, Holy Spirit Wheels of Hope proj

    spreads joy to four more indigent patients and their families

    Last October 23, 2013, in

    simple turn-over rites at

    the Rotary Center, RC

    Balintawak led by FCP

    Nestor Cortez and IPP An-

    thony Atienza turned overfour (4) wheelchairs to

    RCHS IPP Marcia Salva-

    dor. The wheelchairs had

    been donated by the

    Church of Jesus of the Latter-day Saints (LDS) through the

    LDS Charities. The wheelchair assessment and distribution

    program is an on-going partnership between the LDS and Ro-

    tary International through the Rotary Club of Cosmopolitan

    San Juan RID 3830. RC Cosmopolitan San Juan is the na-

    tional coordinator while RC Balintawak is district coordinator.

    RCHS had been referred to RC Balintawak by RCs West Fair-

    view and RC QC Metro North Centennial. Thank you all foryour support to Holy Spirits Wheels of Hope project!

    Thereafter, the wheelchairs were delivered to four (4) benefi-

    ciaries who had been identified earlier: Ma Salvacion Pilapil,

    54 years old, an amputee; Daniel Magat, 11 years old, suffer-

    ing from cerebral palsy; Jeremiah Encarnado, 17 years old, a

    bone cancer patient whose right leg had been amputated;

    and Orlando Porio, 22 years old, a polio victim. Except for

    Jeremiah, all three patients received their wheelchairs right in

    their homes in Barangay Holy Spirit. Jeremiahs wheelchair

    was brought by IPP Marcia to National Childrens Hospital

    where he was undergoing his 4thchemotherapy.

    Since the Wheels of Hope project was launched in September2012, RC Holy Spirit has brought joy and hope to 10 mobility-

    impaired indigent patients and their families in Barangay

    Holy Spirit. Two of the wheelchairs had been donated by

    RCHS friends. The seven (7) wheelchairs and one walker

    came from LDS Charities.

    According to an LDS elder, the goal of the program is not only

    to distribute wheelchairs to those who cant afford it but also

    increase a PWAs self worth and self reliance.

    Providing free wheelchairs to indigent people around the

    world is one of the major components of the global welfare

    program of the LDS Charitiesorganization.

    The Object of RotaryFirst formulated in 1910, the Object of Rotary is to encourage and

    foster the ideal of service as a basis of worthy enterprise and, in par-

    ticular, to encourage and foster:

    . The development of acquaintance as an opportunity for ser-

    vice;

    . High ethical standards in business and professions, the

    recognition of the worthiness of all useful occupations, and the digni-

    fying of each Rotarian's occupation as an opportunity to serve society;

    . The application of the ideal of service in each Rotarian's per-

    sonal, business, and community life;

    . The advancement of international understanding, goodwill,

    and peace through a world fellowship of business and professional

    persons united in the ideal of service.

    5 Avenues of ServiceBased on Object of Rotary, the Five Avenues of Service are Rotarys phi-osophical cornerstone and the foundation on which club activity is based:

    focuses on strengthening fellowship and ensuring the

    effective functioning of the club.

    encourages Rotarians to serve others through their

    vocations and to practice high ethical standards.

    covers the projects and activities the club under-

    takes to improve life in its community.

    encompasses actions taken to expand Rotarys

    humanitarian reach around the globe and to promote world under-

    standing & peace.

    recognizes the positive change implemented by youth

    and young adults through leadership development activities, service

    projects, and exchange programs.
