We welcome groups and individuals of all levels to participate in our Festival; including non-residents and non-students of the Interlake School Division. Come join us in Stonewall in April 2018 and celebrate music and the arts with us. The following 2018 Addendum contains very valuable information for anyone who wishes to enter the Rockwood Festival of the Arts. I recommend that the ADDENDUM be READ OVER CAREFULLY. The Rockwood Festival of the Arts is open to participants of all ages. We welcome groups andindividuals of all levels to participate in our Festival; including non-residents and non-students of theInterlake School Division. Come join us in Stonewall in April 2018 and celebrate music and the arts with us.

The following 2018Addendum contains very valuable information for anyone who wishes to enter theRockwood Festival of the Arts. I recommend that the ADDENDUM be READ OVER CAREFULLY.The following are some items that contain changes to our 2018 festival and they are as follows:

1. Final date of entry shall be January 31, 2018. Late or incomplete entry forms can not beaccepted.

2. Name of the individual competitor must accompany the entry. No substitution of pupil’s name shall beaccepted once entered.

3. You are asked to assist the festival executive in its work by using the entry forms provided.Please note separate entry forms for each venue, including separate forms for Solos, Duet/Trio/Quartet and Group entries. Entry forms are attached in separate PDF files Piano - Vocal -Choral - Dance - Band & Instrumental - Speech Arts. All information must be filled in on the entryforms. Incomplete entry forms may be rejected.

4. Note: Participants age and birthdate required on entry forms. Contestant’s age is to be taken as ofJanuary 1, 2018.

5. Choral entries from schools must have a minimum of 15 members. For smaller groups (5-12 persons)consider the Vocal Ensemble Classes as an alternative. (Provincial Syllabus page 194)

6. Small schools not having enough children in one grade for a choir may combine two grades. This choirmust be entered as the higher grade. When entering, state which grades are combined.

7. Taped accompaniment of vocal or choral classes will be permitted where deemed necessary, however,the committee strongly urges live accompaniment as much as possible. Vocal backups on the tapeare not permitted.

8. Conductors of vocal and speech choirs/ensembles may not sing or speak with the class whileconducting.

9. No teacher, parent, or instructor is permitted to prompt, signal or conduct a contestant/group from theaudience or the sidelines.

10. Any contestant choosing to compete in a more advanced class may not also compete in a lower gradein that section. For example: a grade 2 piano student who decides to compete at a grade 3 level maynot also compete at a grade 2 level.

11. Competitors are required to supply copies of all performance selections for the adjudicator.Original copies must be submitted to the adjudicator’s secretary at the time indicated on the programor no mark will be given.

12. Photocopies will only be accepted when:a) proof of written permission has been obtained from the owner of the copyright and

attached to the photocopy.b) legal electronic downloads are accompanied by a receipt.Any other use of photocopy material will result in disqualification. For further clarificationplease see the 2015 Provincial Syllabus, Definitions & Rules. Note: Test selections for SpeechArts will be provided by the festival but competitors must supply an original of own choiceselection(s).

13. No changes of own selection will be accepted after the entry deadline date.

ROCKWOOD FESTIVAL OF THE ARTS RULES AND REGULATIONSThese Rules & Regulations are in addition to the 2015 AMAF PROVINCIAL SYLLABUS.

14. Any entrant choosing the wrong test piece will not be considered a competitor, and therefore, it is urgedthat authors, composers, publishers, and sources be carefully checked with the convenors.

15. Adjudicator’s & Convenor’s decisions are final. No contestant, parent, or instructor may enter intodiscussion with the adjudicator.

16. Where numbers are insufficient and do not justify an adjudicator, we reserve the right to cancel the classfor the festival. Entrants will be so advised and entry fees returned.

17. Non-residents and non-students of the Interlake School Division are welcome to participate in theRockwood Festival of the Arts, be adjudicated, and receive a Merit Award. PLEASE NOTE: Awards,Scholarships, and the Provincial & National Recommendations each have their own specific criteria.Please see “The Rockwood Festival of the Arts Awards” for rules of each.

18. Due to the family nature of our festival, choice of vocal performances, costuming and staging of ALLperformances must be free of offensive language and suggestive content. Any RFOTAexecutivemember, convenor or adjudicator can redirect or stop the performance if deemed necessary.

19. DANCE- **ALL MUSIC MUST BE PROVIDED ON CD/DVD** (No i-Pods, i-Phones, laptops, etc.)Only one selection (entry) per CD/DVD. Please clearly mark your CD/DVD with Class, name, EntryNumber, and provide it to the sound person at least 30 minutes prior to your class. New rules wereimplimented in 2017, regarding costumes , choreography, lyrics and code of conduct......please see Dance Convenors pages 8 & 9 in the Addendum.

20. Comments, concerns, or grievances regarding the 2018 Rockwood Festival of the Arts shall besubmitted in writing, and mailed to: Rockwood Festival of the Arts Committee, P.O. Box 76, Teulon,Manitoba, R0C 3B0, on or before May 1, 2018. Emails will not be accepted.

All Award Winners will be required to perform at the 2018 Awards Concerton Monday, April 30, at 7:00 p.m. at Stonewall Quarry Park Heritage Arts Centre

**NEW FOR 2018**Awards now available for Kindergarten to Grade 12 students/participants

**Rockwood Festival of the Arts AwardsCandidates must apply for the award and must have participated in the festival in the same year as the

application is made. To be eligible, candidates must currently be a student of the Interlake School Division

student in Kindergarten to Grade 12 or be a resident within the boundaries of the Interlake School Divisionand a student in Kindergarten to Grade12 in a school of their choice.

a) Ten awards of $150 Canadian each will be awarded to deserving participants (K to Gr. 12)to be used towards tuition fees for one of the following:

1) International Music Camp (available to Grades 7-12 only)2) Manitoba Theater for Young People3) Private Lessons4) Performance Arts camp or workshop

Parents/guardians are responsible for any balance of tuition fees as well as transportation costs.TheAwardsCommittee bases their choice on achievment, participation, self-development and musical/artsinvolvement within the community. Awards selections & decisions of the Awards Committee are final.

The Claudia Campbell Beginner Piano Award – This award is presented by the Rockwood Festival of the Artsto: The most promising Beginner Piano Student, in his/her first or second year of instruction, and a resident orstudent of the Interlake School Division, based on more than one outstanding performance, solo or duet, in theRockwood Festival. The selection of the winner will be made by the Piano Adjudicator. No Application isnecessary. This award is to honour and show appreciation for Claudia’s ongoing dedication to the RockwoodFestival of the Arts.

The Ernie Webb Speech Choir Award – This award will be presented annually by the Rockwood Festival of theArts to: “An outstanding Speech Choir (over 12 participants) Grades 1-9, from the Interlake School Division thathas performed in the current year’s Rockwood Festival of the Arts”. The selection of the winner will be made by theSpeech adjudicator. No application is necessary. The purpose of this award is to honour Ernie’s dedication to thearts in his community.

Interlake Music Award - Two awards of $400.00 each will be given out annually by the Rockwood Festival of theArts. Applicants must apply for the award. Applicants must be an ISD student Grade 7 – 12 at the time ofapplication and must be a member of an ISD School Band. Applicant must have participated in the festival in thesame year the application is made. The award must be applied to an instrumental session for the InternationalMusic Camp at the International Peace Gardens. Applicants and parents/guardians should be aware of and areresponsible for any outstanding balance on tuition fees, plus transportation costs and park entrance passess.Applicants and parents/guardians are encouraged to view the Internation Music Camp website atwww.internationalmusiccamp.com.

*Interlake Dance Award - Two awards of $200.00 will be given out annually at the Rockwood Festival of the Arts.Candidates must apply for the award and must have participated inthe festival the same year the application ismade. Applicants must be in *Kindergarten - Grade 12 (New for 2018) at the time of application and a studentof the Interlake School Division OR be a resident within the boundaries of the Interlake School Division and astudent in *Kindergarten - Grade 12 at a school of their choice.The award may be applied towards one of the following: a) Studio lessons, b) Summer dance camp,c) Dance session at the International Music Camp in the International Peace Gardens.

Laura James Scholarship Fund - Two scholarships, will be awarded annually at the Rockwood Festival of theArts. The scholarships will be presented to the participants receiving the highest mark and/or showing the mostoutstanding performance, as judged by the adjudicator in: a) solo class of piano, and b) solo class of voice. Theaward must be claimed within two years of being awarded and be used for lessons or special courses in that field.Any student residing within the boundaries of the Interlake School Division and attending grades 1 through 12 at aneducational facility of their choice, is eligible. In the event of a tie, the award money will be divided equally. Aparticipant may not win the award in consecutive years.

Rockwood Festival of the Arts Grad Scholarship - In 2015 The Rockwood Festival of the Arts celebrated its60th anniversary. The Festival Committee created an annual Grad Scholarship Award in recognition of thisdiamond anniversary. This award of $250.00 will be presented to a graduating student from the host town of theRockwood Festival of the Arts. In 2018, this award will be presented to a Stonewall Collegiate graduate. For moreinformation on the 2018 Grad Scholarship see our website www.rfota.ca.

Provincial & National Recommendations - Adjudicators may recommend students for Provincials which will be

held at the Brandon University, Q.E. II Music Building in Brandon, MB May 24-27, 2018. If you are entering a

Provincial or National class please see the Associated Manitoba Arts Festival website at www.amaf.mb.ca for

requirements and rules. Some Provincial catagories require 2 entries/venue in local festival please check

rules carefully.

Provincial & National Recommendations are the adjudicator’s decision and their decision is FINAL.

To be eligible for Provincial & National Recommendations one must have participated in the Rockwood Festival of

the Arts in the same year as recommended, and must meet ONE of the following criteria:

a) be a resident within the boundaries of the Interlake School Division

b) be attending an Interlake School Division School

c) be a former student of the Interlake School Division.

3. In the 2015 Provincial Syllabus – Please read carefully:

a. Music and Festival Definitions beginning on pages i-ix. and Vocal Notes p. 1.

b. General Regulations- Please note: In our festival, taped accompaniment for vocal or ChoralClasses will be permitted where deemed necessary, but the committee strongly urges live

accompaniment. (Vocal backups on tape are not permitted.)c. Advanced Students note Provincial Finals information pgs ii-v.

Note the difference between the selections that are:*Musical Theater now split into ‘Up Tempo” and “Ballad”.

Musical Theater Selections (Broadway Productions only) and TV or Movie Musical Selections

Contemporary Folk/Popular MusicThis difference is especially important in the Musical Theatre Classes and Own Choice Classes. In

Vocal classes, the own choice selection may not be a Musical Theatre, Gilbert & Sullivan or popularmusic piece. Please enter in the appropriate category.

4. Vocal Duets – Participants 11 years and older will be expected to sing two-part harmony for

approximately one-half the selection or more.

5. Photocopied materials are not accepted or legal, unless accompanied by a letter of permissionfrom the publisher. (If at all possible before submitting your entry, be sure an adequate number of

original copies are available.)

6. Please number the first measure of every line of music (pencil) on the adjudicator’s copy – Vocal.

1. The age of the participant shall be taken January 1, 2018. Participants age and birthdate required onentry forms.

2. Please read carefully the Regulations/Definitions section in the 2015 Provincial Syllabus beginning

on p. i to ix. Please refer to definitions at the beginning of each instrumental section.

3. Please note many changes have been made in levels in the 2015 Provincial Syllabus. Please referto Woodwind Chamber Group page 139, Brass Chamber Group page 139,Woodwind page 79-114,

Brass page 115-132, Percussion page 133-134, or Band sections of the syllabus for appropriatelevels.

4. Contestants must specify on the entry form the level they wish to enter.

5. To assist in keeping order during performances, the groups must be accompanied by additional

supervisors or parents.

6. Selections must be specified. They cannot be entered as TBA. With the exception of Band andStage Band, there must be no change of selections after the deadline date. Changes to Band and

Stage Band must be made and the committee chairperson must be advised by February 15th.

7. A band may combine students from mixed grades. Mixed grades should enter at the higher levelexcept where 70% of the students are in the lower grade.

8. Orginal composition entries in instrumental are welcomed. Please indicate on your entry

form that it is a original composition and convenors will assign a separate categorynumber for your entry.

2. 2015 AMAF Provincial Syllabus:a) Please read carefully the Regulations/Definitions section in the 2015 Provincial Syllabus

beginning pages i-ix, and at the beginning of each venue section.b) Advanced students (RCM/CC Grade Levels 5 and up) please note pages ii to iv for the

Provincial & National class requirements and the Keyboard section for regulationsc) Piano Classes are listed on pages 13-24 Keyboard Section.

3. All classes will be offered with the exception of the following:

-Piano Concert Group -K2761-K2764 inclusive-Piano Duos (2 pianos) -K2721-K2724, & K2761-2764 inclusive

-Organ Classes -K2801-2974 inclusive

4. All contestants must perform using the piano or keyboard provided by the Festival Committee.

5. Teachers are advised to read the NOTE: regarding appropriate selections for “Own Choice”Classes. A “Study” should be entered in a “Study” Class. Please note changes to the format

of some class names, ex. BAROQUE & CLASSICAL is now BAROQUE/BAROQUE STYLE/CLASSICAL/CLASSICAL STYLE.

Please refer to the AMAF resource list site for recommendations of test pieces.

6. No sonata or concerto movements permitted in BAROQUE/BAROQUE STYLE/CLASSICAL/CLASSICAL STYLE/ROMANTIC COMPOSERS/20/21St CENTURY /CANADIAN COMPOSERS/

FRENCH COMPOSERS OR RECITAL GROUP classes.

7. Before submitting your entry, be sure an adequate number of original copies are available.Photocopies will only be accepted when:

a) proof of written permission has been obtained from the owner of the copyright andattached to the photocopy.

b) legal electronic downloads are accompanied by a receipt.any other use of copied material will result in disqualification. For further clarification

please see the 2015 Provincial Syllabus, Definitions and Rules.

8. NEW CLASSESK 2000 - ORIGINAL COMPOSITION

One selection written for piano in which the composer may conduct or perform. A copy of thecomposition must be filed with the entry. The Adjudicator will judge the composition and the

performance independently.This class is not found in the Provincial Syllabus, contact Piano Convenor for more information.

3. Please indicate on your entry whether your entry is a classroom entry or a selected group from several

classrooms. Classroom entries must have 75% of the class participating.

5. New Entry Fees - Solo $8.00, Duet $12.00, Groups 3 or more $15.00

6. Please make every effort to stay within the allotted time. Prompting from sidelines or audience isnot allowed.

7. If special equipment or arrangements are required, please indicate on your entry form.

8. **ALL MUSIC MUST BE PROVIDED ON CD/DVD.** (NO I-Pods, I-Phones, laptops etc.)

The Rockwood Festival will be using a professional sound system and laptop. Only One Selection(entry) per CD/DVD. Please clearly mark your CD/DVD with Class Name, Entry number and provide

to the sound person at least 30 minutes prior to your class.

9. Due to the family nature of our festival, choice of performances, costuming and staging of ALL DANCEperformances must be free of offensive language and suggestive content. Any RFOTA executive

member, convenor or adjudicator can redirect or stop the performance if deemed necessary.

10. CHOREOGRAPHYAny performance displaying choreography that is lewd or offensive is strictly prohibited.

COSTUMES - WARDROBE

The use of costumes is optional. If dancers are in costume,Please select age appropriate costumes.

The use of lyrics that are defamatory in nature, racist, sexist or otherwise offensive are not permitted.

At the decision of theAdjudicator and/or Dance Convenor, any performance in violation of the abovewill be disqualified.

CODE OF CONDUCT - DANCEFor ALL performers, instructors & audience members.

Take pride in creating a safe and professional event for all.Together we celebrate, learn, and grow.

GENERAL- Instructions given by Rockwood Festival of the Arts covenors, board members and

volunteers are to be followed.- Failure to display proper decorum in all areas of the venue could result in not

performing, immediate disqualification, along with the possibility of not returning toany future festival events.

- Adjudicator’s & Convenor’s decisions are final. No contestant, parent, or instructormay enter into discussion with the adjudicator.

IN THE VENUE - GYMNASIUM- Cell phones are to be turned off or silent during performances and adjudications.- No food or drinks (water bottles permitted for dancers only).- Enter the venue ONLY when doors are opened by Festival staff.- No talking during performances and adjudications.

IN THE LOBBY- Food & drinks are permitted, but please clean up after yourselves.

DRESSING ROOMS- Please respect the property and space provided to you.- Do not destroy, alter, or damage any of the items in the dressing rooms.- Only teachers, students & chaperones are to be permitted in the dressing rooms.- Rockwood Festival of the Arts will not be responsible for any personal injury or

lost or stolen property.

The Code of Conduct is attached to the Dance Entry Forms and must be signed bythe Dance Studio or School and returned with your dance entry forms.
