Born September 20, 1912, he was one of five children born to Joseph and Frances Jebbia Agnello in Millican, Texas. During his teenage years, he moved to Stafford, where he remained for 78 years. His life centered on farming, ranching and real estate investments. In the 1960s, Joe's donation of a portion of his farmland helped secure the location of Hwy. 59, which con- tributed to the economic prosperity of the Stafford-Sugar Land area. Through out his lifetime, Joe was involved in the community as a mem- ber of Holy Family Catholic Church, Knights of Columbus, Lions Club, Fort Bend Farm Bureau, Stafford Economic Development Council and Stafford City Council where he was a charter member. He was instrumental in start- ing the Special Education program in the Fort Bend ISD. At the age of 85, Mr. Agnello was September 20,1912 - April 11,2004 Derek AlleWCiy still actively involved in family, ranch- ing and outdoor activities. He leaves a legacy of hard work and love of his land. Most of all, Joe will be remem- bered as the most generous, kind- hearted patriarch of the Agnello Fam- ily, who was always there to help and THIS IS D.Q. Peter & Paul Catholic Cemetery in Frelsburg with Father Wayne Flagg officiating. Pallbearers were LeBon Agnello, MacDonald Ruffeno, Craig Martell, John Procter, Kevin Keller, Nick and Eric Amick, Gray Gilbert, Brian Gab- bert and Jason Sweatt. Derek Alleway, 64, of Altair, passed away at 11:55 p.m. Saturday, April 17, 2004, at the Memorial Hermann Hos- pital of Katy, following a courageous battle with cancer. He was born July 24, 1939, in En- gland to George and Dora Skinner Alleway. Mr. Alleway led a distinguished career as a construction estimator, spe- cializing in commercial buildings and had worked for Gilbane Builders and Lyn Tile. He was involved in the con- struction of the George R. Brown Con- vention Center and Space Center Hous- ton. A member of the Church of En- gland, he married Vera Vawter in Hous- ton on December 20, 1980, and had been a resident of Altair since 1984. Preceded in death by his parents and a brother, Peter; survivors include his devoted wife, Vera Vawter Alleway of Altair; children, Monica Webster and husband, Tony, of West Palm Beach, Florida, Robyn McNabb and husband, Shaun, of Yoakum, and Jakki Alleway of Houston; three granddaughters, Brooklyn Webster, Elizabeth McNabb and "one on the way". Funeral services will be held at 1 p.m., Saturday, April 24, from the First Baptist Church of Sheridan with Rev. Mack Helms, Pastor, officiating and Rev. Brent Pittman assisting. Born August 26, 1964 in Eagle Lake, he was the son of Joe Ynes and Elvira Salazar Barela. A graduate of Bay City High School in 1982, he attended Wharton County Junior College then joined the United States Army. He was first stationed at Fort McClellan, Alabama, where he gradu- ated at the top of his class. He was hon- ored by qualifying for Ranger School at Fort Benning, Georgia. During his training, he was sent to the Philippine Island for survival school and Japan for extreme survival skiing. He was the only Private First Class to graduate as a United States Airborne Ranger. As an Airborne Ranger, Chris was sent to the Schofield Barracks in Ha- waii. While in Hawaii, he fell 60 feet from a bridge, which caused his paraly- sis. He was transferred to the Veteran's Hospital in Houston so he could be near his family. After many months of in- tense therapy, he was released. Chris went on to earn his Bachelors degree in Psychology from the Univer- sity of Houston and his Masters degree in Social Work. Chris had currently been working on his Ph.D. in Hospital Administration from the University of Phoenix when he passed away. William Marvin Fain Re-Elect Rene Cooper-Scott Mayor of Eagle Lake "Been there, done that" The City of Eagle Lake has a Strategic Plan in place. Several town hall meetings were held with members of the USDA staff who assisted us in developing this plan. A lot of input from many of you was used in developing this plan, which will be addressed in the coming months. The Friends of Main Street have organized a committee called Streetscape. This committee is headed by Sandy Bendy. I am a member of this committee as well as J. Matthews, Rhonda Bridges, R. Holland, Jean Wiese and Denis Hentzell. This committee has picked out the following for the downtown area (planters, benches, trash receptacles and lighting). You should be seeing the benches, planters, and trash receptacles real soon. Some items have been ordered already. Mike Morales heads the committee to address abandoned and dilapidated buildings as this has been an issue of concern for the City Council and me. We are also looking for volunteers to serve on this committee. Ninety-five junk vehicles have been through the process. Of those 95, 85 have been removed. Approximately 70 vehicles were removed with a verbal warning. A total of 155 vehicles have been removed since the ordinance was passed. We have a Street Maintenance Program in place. Publication in last week's Headlight listed streets that will be addressed this time around. The City has a clean up program in place two times a year now where large items will be picked up by the City if set by the curb and proper notification is made to the City. We've had the tire pick up several times last year and look to do it again this year. The park was designed to provide recreational activities for the youth of Eagle Lake i.e.: tennis courts, basketball court, volleyball court, swimming pool and soccer area. The Ice House has also reopened for tutoring after school and games for the local youth. We have one of the best Police Departments in the area as evident by these statistics: Felony offenses only; murder, rape, robbery, aggravated assault, burglary, theft, motor vehicle theft, arson. Statistics are listed as: jurisdiction, number of offenses, percent cleared: Columbus PD, 161,22%; Eagle Lake PD, 108,40%; Bellville PD, 106,54%; Sealy PD, 209,22%; La Grange PD, 110,24%; Yoakum PD, 179,23%; Giddings PD, 141, 33%; Meadows Place PD, 118, 8%; Brookshire PD, 117, 30%; Hempstead PD, 200,19%; and, Waller PD, 140,18%. Weedy lot report as of April 15, 2004: weedy lot properties contacted, 86; first letter sent, 86; certified letters sent, 57; citations issued, 17; properties cleaned or being worked on, 41. The City of Eagle Lake has a Strategic Plan in place. Several town hall meetings were held with members of the USD A staff who assisted us in developing this plan. A lot of input from many of you was used in developing this plan, which will be addressed in the coming months.
The Friends of Main Street have organized a committee called Streetscape. This committee is headed by Sandy Bendy. I am a member of this committee as well as J. Matthews, Rhonda Bridges, R. Holland, Jean Wiese and Denis Hentzell. This committee has picked out the following for the downtown area (planters, benches, trash receptacles and lighting). You should be seeing the benches, planters, and trash receptacles real soon. Some items have been ordered already.
Mike Morales heads the committee to address abandoned and dilapidated buildings as this has been an issue of concern for the City Council and me. We are also looking for volunteers to serve on this committee.
Ninety-five junk vehicles have been through the process. Of those 95, 85 have been removed. Approximately 70 vehicles were removed with a verbal warning. A total of 155 vehicles have been removed since the ordinance was passed.
We have a Street Maintenance Program in place. Publication in last week's Headlight listed streets that will be addressed this time around. The City has a clean up program in place two times a year now where large items will be picked up by the City if set by the curb and proper notification is made to the City.
We've had the tire pick up several times last year and look to do it again this year. The park was designed to provide recreational activities for the youth of Eagle Lake i.e.: tennis courts, basketball court, volleyball court, swimming pool and soccer area.
The Ice House has also reopened for tutoring after school and games for the local youth. We have one of the best Police Departments in the area as evident by these statistics: Felony offenses only; murder, rape, robbery, aggravated assault, burglary, theft, motor vehicle theft, arson. Statistics are listed as: jurisdiction, number of offenses, percent
cleared: Columbus PD, 161,22%; Eagle Lake PD, 108,40%; Bellville PD, 106,54%; Sealy PD, 209,22%; La Grange PD, 110,24%; Yoakum PD, 179,23%; Giddings PD, 141, 33%; Meadows Place PD, 118, 8%; Brookshire PD, 117, 30%; Hempstead PD, 200,19%; and, Waller PD, 140,18%.
Weedy lot report as of April 15, 2004: weedy lot properties contacted, 86; first letter sent, 86; certified letters sent, 57; citations issued, 17; properties cleaned or being worked on, 41.

Fernando M. Fernandez May 5,1912 -
Fernando M. Fernandez, 92, of Eagle Lake, passed away Monday, April 19,2004, at his residence follow- ing a sudden illness.
Born May 5, 1912, in Colorado County, he was the son of Jesus Fer- nandez and Elena Mendoza Fernandez.
He lived most of his life in San Francisco, California, led a career in the dry cleaning industry and returned to Eagle Lake in 1996.
He was a member of Getsemani Iglesia Bautista of Eagle Lake.
Survivors include sisters, Anita Mesa of Edna and Conception Fer- nandez of California; nieces, nephews, other relatives and loved ones.
A Prayer Service will be held 7 p.m. Wednesday, April 21, from Getsemani Iglesia Bautista.
Funeral services will follow at 10 a.m. Thursday, April 22, with Rev. Mario Vasquez, Pastor, officiating.
Burial will follow in Lakeside Cem- etery of Eagle Lake.
