Depot and Stabling Yard

Architectural Design Criteria and Standard

The followings are Architectural Design Criteria and Standard for designing Depot complex.1. General: Design Criteria

1.1 NFPA 101 shall be Design criteria for evacuation in case of emergency.

1.2 The design shall be in accordance with Thai Building Codes, Laws and Regulations.

1.3 Access to building shall be easily reached from road and pedestrian and easily to be noticed.

1.4 Width of walk-way shall be suitable, sufficient and in accordance with users behavior.

1.5 Building design shall be integrated with utility system in M & E engineering.

1.6 Structural joints shall be designed as to prevent any leaks.

1.7 The design of circulation flow shall consider the usage both in normal and emergency situation. Facilities required in buildings shall be suitable, sufficient and safe.

1.8 Factors to be considered in architectural design:

1) Building functions.

2) Number of users classified by their responsibility and duty.

3) Evacuation in case of emergency.

4) Building engineering system.

5) Building management.

6) Fire prevention and protection.

7) Circulation and life safety of users.

8) Signage system.

9) Users friendly and convenience.

1.9 Parking areas for ambulance and maintenance vehicles shall be provided.2. The Design of Stairs and emergency Exits shall be based on:

2.1 Stair-nosing shall be non-slip.

2.2 Public staircase shall be 1.50 m. wide as minimum, if the width excess 2.20 m., middle handrail is required.

2.3 Width of emergency stairs shall be 1.00 m. as minimum.

2.4 Landing shall be 1.50 m. wide as minimum.

2.5 Riser shall be no more than 180 mm.

2.6 Thread shall be 300 mm. as minimum.

2.7 Ceiling height shall be at least 2.50 m.

2.8 Handrails shall be at both sides of staircase.

2.9 Stairs handrail shall be 90 cm. high, from nosing to the top of rail. Handrails shall be continuous along the staircase.

2.10 At the beginning and the end of stairs, the railing shall exceed from stair at least 30. cm.

2.11 Spacing between balustrades shall not more than 100 mm.

2.12 There shall be tactile surface (warning blocks) at both ends of stairs including landing for visually-impaired people. The width of tactile surface shall be 30 cm. and parallel to and at the full width of stairs.

2.13 Fire Exits

a) Shall be provided in every 40 M. distance.

b) Shall be 1.00 M. wide.

c) Shall be 2-hours fire resistant.

d) Panic device shall be installed on fire door.

e) Exit signs shall be at the appropriate location.3. Door and Hardware

1) Door leaf and hardware shall be of heavy duty

2) Door and hardware shall be in accordance with NFPA 101.

3) Doors shall be grouped and arranged for using Master Key System. When completed, the master key shall be submitted to owner.

4) Five years guarantee for hardware shall be specified.

4. Facilities for Disable and Elderly

4.1Guiding blocks and warning blocks

1) Guiding blocks shall be provided in public area especially in the lobby to lift lobby and ramp.

2) Warning blocks shall be provided at the changed direction, corner and changed levels and shall be 300 mm. from the edge.

3) The materials for the guiding and warning blocks shall be homogeneous with the design for the visually-impaired and shall be non-slip.

4.2Parking for Handicapped

Weather protected parking for handicapped shall be near the entrance with slope not more than 2% and shall be equipped with signage.

4.3Toilets for Handicapped

Toilets especially for handicapped shall be equipped with self-closing tap or lever operated type. Handrail for holding and lavatory shall be heavy duty. Doors should be sliding door and can be opened from outside in case of emergency. Alarm pull cord should be provided.

4.4Communication Facilities

1) Public telephones shall be installed at the height of 900-1200 mm. from floor level.

2) Public Address shall be installed to help visually-impaired people in both normal and emergency situation.

3) Signage showing information and for way-finding shall be designed and installed for those with hearing-impaired.

4.5Lift and Ramp

There shall be elevators and ramps provided for vertical circulation of physical handicapped. 5. Guardrail and Balustrade

Guardrail and balustrade shall be provided.

1) To prevent lean over, the rails height shall be 1.10 m. as minimum.

2) Spacing between balustrades shall not be more than 100 mm. 6. Number of Toilets

Office Building

In every 300 sq. m. of office building, there shall be 1 water closet, 2 urinals and 1 lavatory for male and 3 water closets, 1 lavatory for female.

Maintenance Building

For maintenance building which has 16-40 male-workers, there shall be 2 water closets, 2 urinals and 2 lavatories and there shall be 4 water closets, 2 lavatories for every 16-40 female-workers.

Park and Ride Building

For every 50 cars in park and ride building, there shall be 1 water closet, 1 urinals and 1 lavatory for male and 1 water closet, 1 lavatory for female.Chapter 5
