What is going on in Personalized Learning?

• We are currently developing our vision for the next three years.

• PBL will continue next year school wide.• A classroom vision, Growth Mindset lessons and student

self-evaluation will be a focus for the entire school.• Our DOK training will be used school wide to unpack

math standards to increase the rigor and student understanding of what is needed to demonstrate mastery.

• Our pilot for next year will be in math in a minimum of two classrooms per grade level.

• This June the design team will meet to work on developing our school model.

Frequently Asked Questions

• Will I have to spend my own money to personalized my room or will the county/school fund this?

• The county/school is not paying for personalizing place at this time. Although some teacher have purchased new seating and rugs for their rooms, we are not asking you to spend your own money. Many changes can be made by rearranging desks and tables in our classrooms. You can do Donors Choose to obtain supplies for personalizing space using the guideline sent out by Mrs. Blackburn.

• Can I participate in math pilot next year even if I am not one of the classrooms that data will be taken from?• Yes, we are not limiting the number of teachers piloting. We believe that planning

will be easier with more teachers contributing to the math flex stations or playlists. If you wish to be part of the pilot next year please let Mrs. Blackburn know.

Frequently Asked Questions (cont.)

• If I start the pilot in year two will I have to pilot both math and ELA?• No, the first year a teacher pilots the pilot will be in math. We do not want

you to have to try to learn both at the same time. If part way through the year you feel comfortable enough to dive into ELA then that is fine.

• Are we getting training on any of this? • Yes, the county is allowing us to determine our school needs for professional

development next year. This means that our PD days will focus on trainings for skills we need in the areas of PBL, student agency, the 4P’s, voice and choice, creating playlists, creating rigorous & differentiated center activities, technology in our students’ hands, unpacking standards, and more. We will develop surveys to help gage teachers’ needs so that when possible you can attend trainings in areas that you need and not in those in which you could be the instructor.

Frequently Asked Questions (cont.)

• What does it mean to unpack the standards?• During post planning we will learn how to find the rigor of a

standard. This training will be utilized by the entire school to unpack the math standards. During a training on July 13 & 14 we will work with consultants to align the rigor of the standards with our standards based report card and create student friendly SBRC based “I can” tables for unit 1. This will be used to develop rigorous grade level pre & post assessments for unit 1. As we move through the year, we will use the skills developed in this training for the remaining math units.

• Am I required to attend the July 13 & 14 training?• All teachers are invited to attend the training on July 13 & 14,

but it is not required. If you are unable to make it then the training will be redelivered during a special preplanning session .

Frequently Asked Questions (cont.)

• How will personalized learning effect EIP and Special Ed?• EIP and special education teachers who push into pilot classrooms will plan

with the teacher to support student learning in small groups. Instruction in these small groups can be tailored to specific needs based on pre & post assessment data. By collaborating with the homeroom teacher the students will have more face-to-face time.

• Will there be planning days for playlists and choice boards? • With the addition of full time art and music teacher next year, all teachers will

receive more planning time. There will be some PD days that focus on unpacking the standards, creating pre & post tests, and time for creating playlist and choice boards, but just like now our planning time will also be needed to work on curriculum.
