Professional Development

Reaching In is an Outreach initiative that provides Landmark teachers with opportunities to enhance their professional and personal growth. This program offers workshops for additional training and professional development credit, as well as community events to support the lives of teachers outside the classroom. Reaching In enhances the school’s mis-sion by complementing an exemplary school program through outreach and training.

All sessions are offered twice to accommodate after school and duty schedules.

Workshop IWhat’s My Style? A Hands-On, Minds-On Workshop on Teaching and Thinking Styles (2 PDPs)October 4 and 5, 3:30-5:00pmDrake Adminstration Building Conference Room

While many of us spend time helping our students to understand how they learn best, we may forget how our own learning and thinking styles, intelligences and motivational preferences, and personality types, deeply influence how we teach. This workshop offers much-needed time for teachers to reflect upon their strengths and needs through a series of questionnaires and a discussion about how the results apply to teaching. The content of the workshop draws on the work of a variety of well-known educators and psychologists. Background readings are available, but not required. Facilitator: Trish Newhall, Assistant Director, Outreach

Workshop IIManaging a Diverse Classroom (2 PDPs)December 6 and 7, 3:30-5:00pmDrake Adminstration Building Conference Room

As teachers, we face the challenge of managing a variety of factors that impact our ability to effectively teach, as well as our students’ ability to learn. Disruptive behaviors may surface as the result of inattention, misperceiving social cues, poor self-confidence, and frustration around oral and written language deficits. With each student bringing his/her own strengths and challenges to your class, how do you address all of his/her needs, while maintaining a productive classroom environment? This workshop will highlight strategies that teachers can implement to manage these diversities.Facilitator: Linda Gross, M.A., CCC-SLP

Community Building

In order to foster the personal growth of teachers as a community, Reaching In provides faculty with opportunities to connect with col-leagues during planned, informal events throughout the year. We are a community who works together, learns together, and plays stogether. Through this initiative, Landmark teachers can focus on building con-nections with each other that continue outside the classroom.
