This is the 10th year that the Mes-quite Locall News has published its Best of Mesquite spection. But it’s the first time it has been done since Battle Born Media acquired the newspaper earlier this year.

And it was quite a learning experi-ence for us and a huge undertaking, to say the least.

We’ve been running a group of five rural Nevada newspapers for thr past three-plus years and only once have we run a “Best of’ section, last fall in the Mineral County Independent-Newsi n Hawthorne. Since it was the first undertaking, it wasn’t quite the production that we faced in Mesquite.

Fortunately, while it may have been the first time for our company, it wasn’t the first time for our Mesquite staff of Stephanie Frehner and Kathy Poindexter. Thanks to those two, we were able to pull off the most success-ful Best of Mesquite section ever.

I’d also like to thank the parents and girls from the Northwest Girls Softball League’s 14U Stingrays for counting the more than 900 ballots we received.

That was easily the most time-con-suming part of this process And as this group didn’t have any connection with the local businesses in town, we could count on the tally being fair.

So please check out this section. Hold on to it throughout the year and alwayss keep in mind to support all local Mesquite businesses.
