News from the Classroom...

February is here! This month we will continue with more fun learning experiences to make sure your child is getting closer to our end of the year goals. February

is the month of love, students will be learning important values like empathy, friendship, kindness, caring , respect and more, but all of this through an academic

lens. We will also be celebrating love of reading week from February 11 to February 15, 2019. The love of reading week will be full of Valentines day themed activi-

ties that will help your child become better readers and help them keep improving in every subject. On February 14,2019, no valentines day grams will be allowed

to be passed out in the classrooms or around the school campus. Each level will have several special activities linked to learning to celebrate this day. In Kindergar-

ten, we will be assigning each student a “secret friend” whom they will have to make a valentines day card for and write a nice message to. On February 14th,

each child will exchange their card with their “secret friend”. More information about the secret friend activity will be sent in their homework folders with the

name of their “secret friend”, please help your child keep it a secret. We will also be having parent volunteers come read to our classroom to encourage our kin-

dergarten students to love reading! Once again, thank you for all of your support and please continue to help your child develop his or her abilities to their maxi-

mum potential.

¡Febrero ha llegado! Este mes continuaremos con las experiencias de aprendizaje divertidas para asegurarnos de que su hijo(a) se esté acercando a las metas de fin

de año. Febrero es el mes del amor y la amistad, los alumnos estarán aprendiendo valores importantes como la empatía, amistad, amabilidad, respeto y mas

desde un punto de vista humano y académico. Asimismo, estaremos celebrando la semana del amor a la lectura del 11 al 15 de febrero,2019 . La semana del amor

a la lectura estará llena de actividades con el tema de San Valentín que fomentarán el aprendizaje y desarrollo de sus hijos. El día de San Valentín (14 de febrero)

no se permitirán las cartitas de San Valentín dentro del salón de clases ni repartirlas en la escuela. Cada nivel tendrá actividades especiales que van de la mano con

lo académico para celebrar el día de San Valentín. En kínder, a cada estudiante se le asignará un “amigo secreto” y tendrán que hacerle una carta decorada y escri-

tas por ellos mismos con un mensaje lindo para su “amigo secreto”. El día 14 de febrero las cartas serán intercambiadas dentro del salón de clases y se compartirán

con el resto del grupo. Mas información sobre la actividad del “amigo secreto” se enviará en el folder de tareas próximamente. Para celebrar la semana del amor a

la lectura tendremos algunos padres voluntarios que nos leerán un cuento a todo el grupo para seguir desarrollando amor a la lectura desde una edad temprana.

Our January’s learning exploration to Old Tucson was a success! Our students met the learning objectives and had a

lot of fun! February is filled with academic goals and Level ll prepares our students for the upcoming AZMerit Test. Daily

attendance is very important since formal evaluations take place during this month. Please, support your son/daughter

at home with his/her daily reading in both languages by signing the Spanish calendar and the English book reports.

Love of Reading Week is from February 11-15 and we will be sending the activities information for this week in your

child’s school agenda. Let’s continue working together as a team!

La exploración de aprendizaje a Old Tucson en enero fue un éxito! Nuestros estudiantes lograron el objetivo de apren-

dizaje y se divirtieron mucho! El mes de febrero está lleno de metas académicas y el Nivel ll prepara a nuestros estu-

diantes para el próximo examen estatal AZMerit. La asistencia diaria es muy importante ya que en este mes tienen lu-

gar unas importantes evaluaciones formales. Por favor, apoye a su hijo/a en casa para que avance en su lectura en

ambos lenguajes. Hay que enfocarse en firmar calendarios de lectura para la clase de español y firmar los reportes

completos de libros para la clase de inglés. La semana del “Amor por la lectura” es del 11 al 15 de febrero y estaremos

enviando información acerca de las actividades de esta semana en la agenda escolar de su hijo/a. l Continuemos tra-

Febrero es el mes en que celebramos el amor a la lectura. En la clase de español los estudiantes estarán escribiendo cartas a un miembro

de la familia. En la clase de inglés los estudiantes escribirán cartas a una persona famosa. El día 14 de febrero llevaremos a los estudiantes

a la oficina de correo para que depositen sus cartas. Necesitamos tres estampillas por cada niño. Las ocupamos para la primera semana de

febrero. Después los llevaremos al parque donde los estudiantes del cuarto nivel tendrán la oportunidad de leer y compartir una historia

con los estudiantes de nuestro nivel. En matemáticas también estaremos haciendo diferentes actividades relacionadas al día de San

Valentín. Esperamos que sea un día divertido para todos. Gracias por su apoyo.

February is the month when at Mexicayotl Academy we celebrate our, “Love of Reading”. In Spanish class students will write a letter to a

family member and in English class they will write a letter to a famous person. On February 14th we will go on an exploration to our local

post office to mail the students’ letters. We will need three stamps from each child so that they can mail their letters. Please send the

stamps with your child during the first week of February. After visiting the post office, we will go to the park with Level 4. At the park they

will read a book to our student and complete a few activities together. In math class we will also be doing a variety of activities related

News from the Classroom...

Level III: 5th & 6th

This month Level IV is starting on several exciting projects that we will be building on throughout the semester. This entire year we have been exploring minority populations in the United States; the first semester's focus was Native Americans and this second semester's focus is African Americans. As part of this unit we will be reading Roll of Thunder Hear My Cry, The Hate You Give, Dear Martin, and All American Boys. These books will give students the chance to take a critical look at the historical treatment of African Americans and how these events, beliefs, and actions have influenced the current events that have affected this population. Please ask Level IV students what they are learning in class when you have a chance to interact with them. Level IV will continue its Love of Reading tradition of sharing our favorite children's books with students from Level I. This is the unique way that we incorporate Valentine's Day into a week long celebration of literacy and an appreciation of books. Los estudiantes de Nivel IV estarán desarrollando varios proyectos interesantes a lo largo de este semestre. Este año hemos estado ex-plorando la población minoritaria en los Estados Unidos. El enfoque del primer semestre fue la población de nativo-americanos y el en-foque del segundo semestre será la población afro-americana. Como parte de esta unidad, leeremos los siguientes libros: Roll of Thunder Hear My Cry, The Hate You Give, Dear Martin y All American Boys. Dear parents, Third quarter has just begun and this is a new opportunity to achieve all of our benchmark goals. Congratulations on supporting your

children on their AR reading. Please keep working with your children at home so they can reach their AR Reading goals. Once again,

thank you for your tiendita’s donations. The week of February 11th to the 14th our level will be doing some classroom activities to cele-

brate Love of Reading. Students will also be writing a letter to a friend on February 14th as part of their writing class. There will be no

need for students to bring Valentine cards to school. February 20th to the 22nd our level will be having an exploration to Earth keepers in

Tucson, Arizona. Information with details on the exploration will be shared with you at a special meeting held by the level teachers on

Wednesday February 6th 2019, from 3:30-4:00 p.m. Thank you for all your support and let’s continue working together as a team to ac-

complish the expected goals.

WHAT IS A TAX CREDIT?

A tax credit is a dollar for dollar reduction in the actual tax owed to the State of Arizona. It reduces your tax liabil-

ity by the amount you donate, up to $400 for married couples and $200 for single or head of household. The tax

credit can also be taken as a donation on your federal tax return.

WHAT ARE THE BENEFITS?

There are plenty! You, the taxpayer, get a Tax Credit for supporting our school. The tax credit donation lets you

choose how your tax dollar will be spent. We all benefit because extra-curricular activities help children develop

qualities such as leadership, personal growth and cooperation. They also provide safe, supervised activities for stu-

dents. Everyone wins.

WHAT ARE EXTRA-CURRICULAR ACTITIVIES?

Extra-curricular activities are defined as school sponsored activities that require enrolled students to pay a fee in

order to participate. Such activities include (but are not limited to): field trips, fine arts, music, and athletics, just

to name a few.

Se les pide a todos los padres de familia que por

favor pasen semanalmente a revisar nuestra canasta de objetos

perdidos. Tenemos muchas chaquetas, sueters y otros artículos

que no han venido a reclamar. Cada

último viernes del mes estaremos regalando todo lo que haya en

la canasta a algún albergue.
