Office of Olmstead, Compliance, Prevention,
Planning, and Evaluation
• In order to maximize the Division’s progress under the Olmstead initiative, DMHAS has created
The Office of Olmstead, Compliance, Prevention, Planning and Evaluation. This new office will
allow for optimal collaboration across all Olmstead-related and roles and functions, and
encompass the following (previously separated) units:
• Olmstead
• Compliance
• Quality Management
• Unusual Incident Reporting (Mental Health – Hospital and Community)
• Patient Services Compliance Unit (PSCU)
• Consumer Affairs
• Self-Help Centers
• Prevention and Early Intervention Services
• Screening, Brief Intervention and Referral to Treatment
• Addiction Contract Monitoring
• Addiction Recovery Centers
Next Steps for NJ DMHAS
In furthering its community integration efforts, DMHAS has begun examining systemic
issues that may serve as barriers to timely discharges from state psychiatric hospitals.
Some of the main barriers include:
• Provider and state hospital communication gaps
• Preparation for community living
• Improved discharge processes for individuals with a dual diagnosis of
developmental disability and mental illness
• Medication management for consumers with diabetes
• Pre-Admission Assessment and Resident Review (PASRR) Process
• Documentation and access to entitlements and supports
