INSTALLING THE BLADE

1. The reciprocating shaft must befully extended to permit access tothe keyless quick-change bladerelease collar (A) Fig. 1. Ifnecessary, gently squeeze thetrigger switch to move thereciprocating shaft to itsoutermost position (as shown inFig.1).

4. insert the blade into the clampuntil it hits bottom. Allow the

release collar (A) Fig. 3A to rotateclockwise to lock the blade in

place. Close locking lever (B).

NOTE: The blade can be installed

upside down if preferred, forbetter reach in tight fittingapplications.

5. To remove blade, repeat steps 1through 3, and pull blade fromblade clamp while holding therelease collar in the openposition.

NOTE: if the blade clamp collarresists rotation to remove a blade,work the blade up and down whilerotating the clamp (in a counter-clockwise direction).

if the blade breaks leaving nothing tograsp (to pull it from the clamp), itmay be necessary to use anotherblade as a tool to aid in removing thebroken piece (see Fig. 4). Whileholding the release collar in the openposition, use the tip of another bladeto "hook" the broken piece and pull itfrom the clamp. (A thin, fine-toothed,metal-cutting blade works best.)

Periodically clean the blade clampwith dry compressed air. DO NOTlubricate the blade clamp. Lubricantcan attract dust, metal filings anddebris.

FRONT SCROLL HOUSINGADJUSTMENT

Disconnect tool from

power source,

1. The variable angle reciprocatingsaw is designed with a rotatingfront scroll housing for easierradius cuts. This feature permitsadditional access in closeworkspaces to reach places whereconventional tools cannot beused.

The front scroll housing canrotate 360°. The front scrollhousing can be adjusted radiallyto 12 detented positions. Thisfeature is designed to simplifyadjusting to radial angle of cut andcombined with the rotatinggear housing, allows almost anycutting operation.

To rotate the front scroll housing,depress lock button (A) Fig, 8.Hold the button depressed whilemoving the front scroll housingclockwise or counterclockwise tothe desired radial position orangle. Then release thelock button and continue to movethe front scroll housing until thelock button snaps into the desireddetent position (B) Fig, 9.

PIVOTING GUIDE SHOEADJUSTMENT

The saw is supplied with a keyiessquick-change guide shoe. Thepivoting guide shoe (A) Fig, f0, servesas a rest while making a cut and itcan be adjusted to accommodatemany types of cutting applications.

The handle (A) Fig, 14A can berotated 90° to the right or 90 ° and180° to the left. To rotate handle,depress locking lever (A) Fig, 14B androtate handle to the desired position.After adjusting make sure handle islocked in position before using thesaw.

TO START AND STOP SAW

1. Make sure power circuit voltageis the same as shown on the

specification plate on the saw.Connect saw to power circuit.

2+ Hold saw firmly (see Fig. 13A orFig.13B). Squeeze trigger switch(A) Fig. 15, to start motor+Release trigger to stop motor.

VARIABLE SPEED

The saw is equipped with a variablespeed control switch (A) Fig. 15 (0 to2900 SPM). As the switch trigger issqueezed, the speed of the saw bladeincreases.

The lower speeds are recommendedfor most metal cutting, while thehigher speeds are recommended forwood. A few practice cuts at variousspeeds (on scrap material), wilI aidyou in choosing the best speed forobtaining the desired results on yourapplication.

BEFORE YOU START TO WORK

Select the blade best suited for the

material to be cut. For greatesteconomy, use the shortest bladesuitable for the thickness of thematerial to be cut.

Be sure the material to be cut is rigid.Small work pieces should be securelyclamped in a bench vise or withclamps to the work table. As the workprogresses in scrotl or curved cut-outpieces, the material may bereadjusted to accommodate themovement of the saw. The saw cuts

freely with only slight feed pressure.Forcing the saw will not make it cutfaster.

SELECTING THE BLADE

For best performance, longer bladelife, and smoother cut, select theproper blade for the job. When cuttingmetal always select a blade which wilIallow at least three teeth to be

engaged in the thickness of material.

SAWmNG WOOD

The variable angle reciprocating sawis used much the same as a handsaw in that it is moved toward the

operator during the cutting operation.However, since the blade cuts on theup-stroke instead of the down-strokeas in the case of the hand saw, thegood or finish side of the work shouldface down during the cuttingoperation.

SAWING METAL

When cutting angle, H-beam, I-beam,channel, etc. start the cut on thesurface where the greatest number ofteeth will contact the work. To make a

pocket cut, drilI a starting hole first. Toextend blade life, apply cutting oil tothe work suHace along the line of cut.

PLUNGE CUTS

The variabte angle reciprocating sawcan be used for plunge cutting wood,plywood, wallboard, and plasticmaterials.

Using bracket as a pivotpoint, roII saw forward by raising rearhandle, as shown in Fig° 17. Whenblade has cut through the work,continue raising the rear handle unti!saw is perpendicular to the work andguide shoe is fully seated on the worksurface as shown in Fig° 18. Keepsaw in this position and move bladealong line of cut.

PeriodicatIy blow out aII air passageswith dry compressed air. All plasticparts should be cleaned with a softdamp cioth. NEVER use solvents toclean plastic parts. They couIdpossibly dissolve or otherwisedamage the material.

LUBRICATION

This toot has been lubricated with a

sufficient amount of high gradelubricant for the life of the unit undernormal operating conditions. Nofurther lubrication is necessary.

For your continued safety andelectrical protection, brush inspectionand replacement on this tool shouldONLY be performed by Sears Parts &Repair Centers in the United States.

At approximately 100 hours of use,take or send your toot to your nearestSears Parts & Repair Center in theUnited States to be thoroughlycleaned and inspected. And ifnecessary, have worn parts replaced,lubricated with fresh lubricant, newbrushes installed, and performancetested.

Any Ioss of power before the abovemaintenance check may indicate theneed for immediate servicing of yourtool. DO NOT continue to operatetoo! under this condition. Return thetoot to a Sears Parts & Repair Centerin the United States for immediateservice.

EL AREA DE TRABAJO1. Mantenga su espacio de trabajo limpio y bien iBuminado. Los bancos

LA SEGURIDAD ELECTRICA

LA SEGURmDAD PERSONAL1. Mant_ngase alerta; preste atenci6n a Io que est_ haciendo y proceda

16gicamente cuando ope_e una herramienta el6ctrica. No use la herramientacuando est_ cansado ni bajo la influencia de medicaci6n, alcohol o drogas. Unmemento de inatenci6n cuando est6 usando una herramienta el6ctrica puede resultaren una grave herida personal.

2. Wstase apropiadamente. No Heve ropa suelta ni alhajas. Mantenga empelo largosujetado. Mantenga el pelo, la ropa y los guantes libres de las partes movibles,La ropa suelta, las alhajas o el pelo largo puede engancharse en las partes movibles.

Algunos herramientas de funcionar_n concorriente continua o monof#_sica de 25 a

60 Hz corriente altema y con un voltaje

entre mas o menos el 5 per ciento de Ioindicado en la placa de especificacionesde la herramienta. Algunos modelos son

dise_ados solamente para usar concorriente alterna. Refi6rase a la placa deespecificaciones de su herramienta para

informarse del voltaje correcto y de lacapacidad normal de la corriente.

_No use su

herramienta con una corriente en la

cual el voltaic no est6 entre los Rimitescorrectos. ERhaceHo puede daharseriamente su herramienta.

SELECCION DE CABLES BE BERVlCIO

Si se usa un cable de servicio, verifique que el tama5o del conductor sea bastante grandepara prevenir una disminuci6n excesiva de voltaje que cause una p_rdida de potencia y

posiblemente dare el motor. Una gala de tamarios de cables de servicio recomendados seencuentra en esta secci6n. Esta gala se basa en la limitaci6n de p6rdida de voltaje a 5voltios (10 voltios en el case de 230 voltios) a 150% de la capacidad normal de amperios.

Si un cable de servicio se usar& afuera, tendr#_ que ser marcado con el sdijo W-A u Wsiguiendo la designaci6n del tipo de cable. Per ejemplo - SJTW-A que indica que esaceptable para use afuera (al aire libre).

PARA INSTALAR LA SEGUETA

1. Hay que tenet el _rbol alternativo (eje devaiv_n) totalmente extendido para permitirentrada al collar de seguridad de lasegueta (A) Fig. 1, quick-change. Si esnecesario, apriete ligeramente el gatillopara mover el _rbol alternativo hasta suposici6n extendida (como est_ ilustradoen la Fig. 1).

Desconecte la

sierra de la fuente de e_ectricidad.

2. Gire la zapata de gufa (B) Fig. 1, haciaadelante para aumentar la entrada al

seguro de segueta.

3. Rata abrir el seguro de segueta: gire ysujete el collar de seguridad de la segueta(A) Fig. 2 o Fig. 3 en el sentidocontrario alas manecillas del reloj(mirando la sierra pot enfrente).

NOTA: La zapata de gala

giratoria quick-change puede quitarsetemporalmente para facilitar la instalaci6nde la segueta. Suelte la palanca defijaci6n (B), Fig. 3, para quitar a laizquierda (consulte la secci6n de estemanual Montaje y ajuste de la zapata degufa giratoria).

No utHice la

herramienta con la zapata de guiaquitada.

4. Meta la hoja en la abrazadera hasta quegolpee el fondo. Deje que el collar de

seguridad gire en el sentido de lasmanecillas del reloj para asegurar la

segueta, (A) Fig. 3A. Cierre cerrandopalanca (B).

NOTA: La segueta puede instalarse enposiciOn invertida si se prefiere, para

tenet mejor alcance en aplicaciones enespacios reducidos.

5. Para quitar hoja, repetir los pasos 1 por 3,y tirar hoja de la abrazadera de hoja altenet el cuello de la liberaciSn en la

posicibn abierta.

NOTA: Si el collar del seguro resiste larotacibn para quitar la segueta, mueva la

segueta hacia arriba y hacia abajomientras gira el seguro en el sentido

contrario alas manecillas del reloj.

abrazadera hasta que golpee el fondo.Introduzca la segueta de sierra caladora

(B) en el adaptador de segueta (A). Dejeque el collarfn de suelta gire en el sentido

AsegOrese de que el voltaje del circuitosea el mismo que el de la placa de

especificaciones en la sierra. Conecte lasierra a la fuente de electricidad.

Agarre firmemente la sierra, (vea la Fig.13A 6 Fig. 138). Apriete el gatillo

(interrupter) (A) Fig. 15, para poner elmotor en marcha. Suelte el gatillo para

parar el motor.

VELOCIDAD VARIABLE

La sierra est_ equipada con un interruptor decontrol de velocidad variable (A), Fig. 15 (0 a

2900 CPM). Tal como apriete el gatillo lavelocidad de la segueta aumenta.

Se recomiendan las velocidades bajas paracortar la mayorfa de metales. Y se

recomiendan las altas para cortar madera.Unos cokes de prueba usando varias

velocidades, le ayudar_n a escoger la mejorvelocidad para obtener los resultados

deseados para el material que va a usar.

ANTES DE EMPEZAR ELTRABAJO

Seleccione la segueta mejor adecuada para

el material que va a cortar. Para mejoreconom[a, use la segueta m#_scorta que se

ajuste al espesor del material que va a cortar.

AsegOrese de que el material que va a coRar

sea rfgido. Piezas pequdias en elaboraci6ndeben sujetarse bien con una prensa debanco o con una abrazadera en la mesa de

trabajo. Mientras el trabajo de voluta (espiral)

o de cokes curvos progresa, el materialpuede ser reajustado para acomodar elmovimiento de la sierra. La sierra corta bien

PARA ESCOGER LA SEGUETA

Para el mejor rendimiento, una vida

prolongada de segueta y cortes mas finos,escoja la segueta apropiada para el trabajo.

Para coRar metal, siempre escoja unasegueta que permita que por Io menos tresdientes est6n en contacto con el metal a lavez.

PARA CORTAR MADERA

La sierra de vaiv_n de Angulo variable seutiliza prActicamente de la misma manera

que una sierra de mano en que es movidahacia el operador durante la operaci6n de

corte. Sin embargo, como la hoja cortadurante la carrera ascendente en vez dedurante la descendente como los serrotes de

mano, el buen lado o lado acabado del

trabajo debe estar hacia abajo durante elcorte.

PARA CORTAR METAL

Para cortar hierro angular, viga H, viga I,hierro de canal, etc, empiece pot la

superficie donde el mayor nOmero dedientes har_ contacto con el trabajo. Para

hacer un coke hundido (corte de bolsillo),taladre un agujero primero. Para extender

hoja la vida, aplique cortando el petr61eo ala superficie del trabajo conforme al corte.

EL CORTE CLAVADO

La sierra de vaiv_n de #_ngulovariable puedeutilizarse para realizar cortes clavados en

madera, madera contrachapada, tableroprensado para paredes y materiales de

plastico.

NO intente reaiizar

cortes c_avadoe en metal.

Marque claramente la Ifnea de corte en la

pieza de trabajo. Agarre la carcasa delanteracon una mane y el aea trasera con la otra.

Escoja un punto de inicio conveniente dentrode la Ifnea de corte en el area de material de

desecho. Para comenzar el coke, apoye lasierra en el soporte de la zapata y alinee la

segueta con el punto de inicio (de modo quela segueta NO toque la pieza de trabajo), de

la manera que se muestra en la Fig. 16.Arranque la sierra. Utilizando el soporte come

punto de pivote, gire la sierra hacia adelantesubiendo el asa trasera, de la manera que se

muestra en la Fig, 17. Cuando la seguetahaya atravesado la pieza de trabajo, siga

subiendo el asa trasera hasta que la sierraest_ perpendicular a la pieza de trabajo y la

zapata de gufa est_ completamente asentada

en la supefficie de trabajo Fig. 18. Mantengala sierra en esta posiciOn y mueva la segueta

a Io largo de la I[nea de coke.
