But don’t forget, you can place a personal ad too! Take it anywhere in town! Check out all the pricing and sample ads located in the back of this packet! This is fabulous advertising, a great way for you to honor your dancer and remember this day forever! We still look back at our programs from childhood and loving seeing our friends and family! Most importantly, there is a Dress Rehearsal & Recital Timeline. This has everything you need to know about where to be and what to bring. This schedule is broken down into an hour-by-hour guide to the rehearsal process. All of these rehearsals are MANDATORY and that is why we are notifying you in advance. Please make arrangements for your dancer and possibly have a back up plan. Again, THERE ARE NO EXCUSES for missing these rehearsals. Remember that this Recital is for ALL OF OUR students and your dancer missing a rehearsal affects other kids as well. Dance is team work just as much as any sport! Finally, the good stuff! There is a Recital Program Order & Recital Packing Checklist that will be sent out in April. Make sure you go through the list weeks prior to the show. You need to make sure you have everything and if you have any questions please email us! We can’t help you once we have all arrived at the theatre and we have 350 kiddos to worry about! RECITAL HANDBOOK 2020 Please make sure you thoroughly read and re-read this packet.

There are a few MANDATORY EVENTS that your dancer must attend in order to participate in Recital 2020.

Thank you so much for a wonderful year so far! We are excited to have you join us in our 9th Annual Recital on Saturday, May 16th, 2019 at the Cailloux Theatre in Kerrville, TX at 11:00pm, 2:30pm & 6:00pm!

For us, Recital is a time to share your dancer’s experiences with the closest of friends and family. Our TICKETPRO SYSTEM in your Parent Portal will ensure there are enough seats for you and all of your guests. You may purchase tickets either on the Parent Portal, at our Front Desk or send the link to family and friends to purchase on our website. The following pages are checklists, schedules and calendars to help you out. Please highlight all of your dancer’s events and be on time! Notes for ALL Performers & Parents

Dress Room Rules & Behavior: • Dancers behavior in the Dressing Rooms is extremely important. • There are designated chaperones, who are volunteers, that will be assisting dancers during their costume

changes on the day of the show ONLY! These volunteers are not there to discipline or babysit. Please remind your dancer that their behavior will be documented and those who can not control themselves will be asked to not participate in performances.

• No snacks or drinks will be allowed backstage. These things are detrimental to costumes and dangerous for allergies! Water is allowed in a SEALED container, preferably a no spill water bottle, labeled with a name.

Things to Bring to Dress Rehearsal: • EXTRAS of EVERYTHING!!!! Especially TIGHTS! • Make sure you have put your dancer’s name in everything you own. If something is left behind at the theatre

with no name, it will go straight to GoodWill… anything with a name will come back to you! ;) • Basic Nude Leotard or Bra & Panty Set: All dancers, Level 3 and under, that change costumes during the

show, can wear a nude leotard or nude 2 piece set under all their costumes. Nude Basics can be purchased at Dorothy’s Dance Shop. They come in many different types, sizes and colors. Some have built in bras as well. No one is to wear a sports bra, regular bra or panties on the stage. Tights have built in liners for a reason! Less layers the better, especially for little ones who will have to use the restroom! Dancers in Level 4-6 will have closed changing facilities. These are discussions we will be having in class over the next several weeks.

• Make a DANCE EMERGENCY KIT: All Dancers in Recital 2020 need to have the following items packed in a “Kaboodoodle” for the performance.

Ponytail Holders Bobby Pins Hair Pins

Hair Spray Gel

Safety Pins

Needle & Thread Foundation

Powder Blush (Bright Pink)

Eyeshadow (Dark Neutrals) Mascara (Black)

Eyeliner (Black, top & bottom) Lipstick (Deep Red Tones)

False Eyelashes (10+ years old) Bottled Water

Performance NOTES: • Please make sure that your dancer has a well-rested day. Make sure they eat healthy meals (not heavy) and

have high-energy snacks. Adrenaline can wear you out too! • Please do your dancer’s make-up before arriving to the theatre. Do not come in costume! We like to keep

them a secret from the audience. That means no walking around outside of backstage buildings in costume! • All dancers performing in more than one number, and in levels 3 and under, can wear a nude basic leotard

under everything! This is for the privacy of our dancers. There will be hired stage staff backstage and there are also a stage crew (men) helping with the technical side of the show.

Parent NOTES: • Please remember that the kids need to listen to the directors. DO NOT give them signals or call their names from

the audience during the rehearsal process. They end up trying to find you in the audience instead of listening to directions.

• The stage is a dangerous place and if they walk forward on the stage while trying to find you, they can end up in the Orchestra Pit. They will not be able to see the audience during the show and you don’t want them to spend their whole dance trying to find you to help them in the dark!

• Parents of little ones also need to remember that they may not dance the first time they are on the stage. Little kids need to take in their surroundings and know that they are safe in the space. Don’t worry about it!

• It’s a great experience for them to make sure they don’t develop stage fright! Stay calm and remember to continue encouraging them even in the moments of fear.

• A SMILE means a million!

Recital 2020 “To Be Determined”: Costume Requirements Checklists On the following pages you will find lots of information on what to pack for your dancer. You need to pack all of these things WITH them, not FOR them! That way they know where to find things when you are not backstage.

NO JEWELRY ON STAGE: NO ONE is to wear ANY jewelry on the stage unless directed by an instructor.

This is a hazard to dancers as small parts can be very dangerous to dancers in pointe shoes or barefoot. Parents of Little Ones: Please remove your child’s

earrings prior to arriving at the theatre. It becomes very traumatic when it has to be done in the dressing room! No charm bracelets or medical jewelry.

WHY BRAND NAMES? The colors and variations react different under stages lights. We have

requirements that are stated each year under your required Dress Code. We use these same brands for Recital. Please double check that your dancer has the

correct shoes and tights INCLUDING the brand and style.

HAIR & MAKE-UP REQUIREMENTS:

We do not require specific make-up for Recital but all dancers need to have on STAGE MAKE-UP. Regular, day to day make-up, makes them look

washed out and ghostly on stage. All dancers will have a single hairstyle for Recital. You must come to the theatre with your hair already done and that way

no one has to worry about changing hair while changing costumes. Please see the examples on

how hair and make-up should be done.

DANCERS WHO HAVE HATS: You will being changing your hair to a ponytail for your dance.

Please ask your instructor for more details.

DANCERS IN Children’s Program Combo Hair: You can do their hair how every you would like but it must be off their face and have no “wispy hairs” to get caught in the lights.

The more the hair is back the better we can see their little faces.

DANCERS IN Children’s Program Make-Up: These little dancers NEED make-up or they will look like ghosts under the powerful stage lights. Please give them a solid foundation and powder. Lots of blush and red lipstick. If they will let you, eyeshadow and mascara are a MAJOR plus and they can

often use a few eyebrows!
