The Mar - ilyn Harris Memorial Scholar - ships are for $750 each. Grace Klein of Hermiston in- ished her high school studies with Mother of Divine Grace Catholic Homeschool, and is planning to attend Blue Mountain Communi- ty College to study business. Ricardo Mendoza, also of Hermiston is a 2015 graduate of Hermiston High School with an aim to study criminal justice at BMCC. Klein and Mendoza were se- lected from an impressive pool of applicants. Their commitment to their faith along with academic work made their efforts stand out and resulted in being awarded the scholarships. He passed away in Portland, Oregon, surround- ed by his family. He is the ninth child of Peter and Lucinda (MacK- enzie) Stubbert. Joe was adopt- ed by Esther and Stanley Adams at the age of 9 and moved to Salt Lake City, Utah. He married Terri White in 1973 and had four children before divorcing in 1996. He lived around eastern Washington and Oregon before settling in Umatilla, Oregon, in 1986 where he lived with his fam- ily. Joe was preceded in death by his parents and siblings, Weslie, Edward and Sandra Stubbert. He married Barbara Hen- son in 2013. Joe is survived by Barbara, his four chil- dren Candi (Kyle) Hanson, Cherisa (Kierin) Doherty, Weslie (Kilee) Adams and Casee (Martin) Lance, and stepchildren Jaclyn Cas- torena and Greg Davis. He leaves behind grandchil- dren Andrew, Jaeden, Quin- ton, Caleb, Cade, Daniel, Kyler, Colt, Ciena, Abby, Caia, Zoey, Ashton and Kylie, stepgrandchildren Whitlee and Haylee, and great-grandson Connor. He is also survived by his broth- er Weslie Adams, who was his best friend for 60 years. His surviving brothers and sisters include Leslie, Mina, Barbara, Faye, Marilyn, An- gus and Holly. Joe worked as a truck driver for many years before he found his place farming. He was an incredibly hard worker and always gave his all, no matter what job he held. He loved farming and had planned to retire this year to start his own small farm with his wife. He loved car- pentry and was al- ways building things around the house. Fishing, John Wayne westerns, family bar- becues and sleeping under the stars were some of his greatest joys in life. Joe will be greatly missed by his family and all the peo- ple he worked with along with the complete strangers he met and offered to help whether they asked or not. He was truly a man who would give you the shirt off of his back. He gave and gave and never expected or wanted anything in return. He took in anybody who needed help. His door was never closed. His generosity was absolutely amazing. It was who he was and it will be what he is always remem- bered for. The property owner told them to leave but they did not. A Umatilla County sheriff’s deputy did not ind the boys. 2:59 a.m. - The Morrow County Sheriff’s Ofice and Boardman pol ice responded to a 9-1-1 call about a silver Dodge Neon on three tires and one rim eastbound on Interstate 84 near Three Mile Canyon Farms and headed to Boardman. Law enforcement found the car at a rest stop, and the driver passed a sobriety test but refused a ride into town. Police told him they would impound his vehicle if he drives it, and he said he would call someone to get him in the morning. 8:30 a.m. - A caller reported the theft of a silver and purple 1999 Dodge with an aluminum latbed from Westfall Septic, 78131 Highway 207, Hermiston. 8:51 a.m. - A caller reported a man on Adams Road, Pendleton, was burning a debris pile while a “red lag warning” was in effect due to the hot and dry weather. 9 a.m. - A Pendleton woman on Southwest Seventh Street yelled profani - ties and threatened a neighbor regarding mowing the lawn. The neighbor called police and said he was concerned she may not be taking medication she needs for her mental health 12:01 p.m. - Umatilla police issued a citation after a caller stated a black dog chased him through his yard on Cliff Street and he had to jump into his car to get away. 1:19 p.m. - Pendleton police received a report of possible domestic violence at a home on Westgate Drive. 1:44 - 2 p.m. - Pendleton’s code enforcement oficer took down yard sale signs people posted on utility poles, which is a violation of city law. 4:01 p.m. - Another local sent money to scam artists. A Hermiston man this time reported a caller told him he won $29 million, a Mercedes and more cash from Publishers Clearing House. But to get the prizes, he needed to pay the IRS. The man said he sent $3,800 in all on June 1 and 2, then he sent $3,000 more Friday, but his wife and child told him to stop and go back to the bank, and he got back the $3,000. 5:50 p.m. - A woman told Umatilla po- lice her boyfriend was harassing her and Thursday night hit her in the head. 6:30 p.m. - A Heppner woman report- ed she received a scam phone message claiming police would come if she did not call back concerning unpaid taxes. She said she wanted the sheriff’s ofice aware if this and did not need contact. 7:09 p.m. - A man told Pendleton police someone entered his home on Southwest Goodwin Place and stole his wife’s jewelry. 11:12 p.m. - A man and woman prowled through an orchard on Tootie Lane, Milton-Freewater, and tried to get into a house where an older person lives. 11:25 p.m. - A thief stole cans from the donation trailer at Irrigon High School, 315 S.E. Wyoming Ave., Irrigon. SATURDAY 12:15 a.m. - Pendleton police searched for but did not ind a man who harassed a woman at The Saddle Restaurant and Lounge, 2220 S.E. Court Ave., and at one point even dropped his pants. 12:52 a.m. - A woman assaulted a man at Crabby’s Underground Saloon & Dance Hall, 220 S.W. First St., Pendleton. 1:11 a.m. - Someone hit the fence at the Umatilla Army Depot on Ordinance Road, Hermiston, then left. The crash damaged the fence and the car, a depot employee reported. 6:35 a.m. - The manager of Harris Park on South Fork Walla Walla River Road, Milton-Freewater, reported two males argued at the park, then one male drove a blue pickup and tried to run over the other for stealing items from camp. 5:14 p.m. - A son called from the Umatilla County Jail, Pendleton, and threatened to harm his mother and burn down her house. 5:41 p.m. - A Umatilla man told police he was trying to leave home after his wife kicked and hit him. 6:10 p.m. - A woman at the Morrow County Justice Court, 205 N.E. Main Ave., Irrigon, reported her children’s father keyed her car, stabbed a speaker with a knife, stole her phone about an hour ago and now will not communicate with her. 6:19 p.m. - A dog living in a home- less camp near the Moose Lodge on West Coe Avenue, Stanield, tried to bite passersby. 9:32 p.m. - Vandals jumped the fence at Ione High School, Ione, while a wed- ding was going on next door, and pushed items into the school pool, including a chair lift. The Morrow County Sheriff’s Ofice caught the suspects, talked to the parents and gave the case to the county juvenile department. 10:44 p.m. - Two males fought in the street outside 40 Taps, 337 S.W. Emi - grant Ave., Pendleton. There were about 20 people there, and police arrested one person on a warrant. Parks Grifin East Oregonian It’s time to get dashing — the Children’s Museum of Eastern Oregon is seeking dachshund owners to enter their dogs in the 10th annual Wiener Dog Race. With a theme of The Dogtona 400, the event is Friday, June 24 at 6 p.m. in the 400 block of Main Street in downtown Pendleton. It’s held adjacent to the weekly Pendleton Farmers’ Market. The entry fee for participat- ing wiener dogs is $20 for those pre-registered by Thursday, June 23. The fee increases to $25 on race day. The race is limited to 40 participants, so dachshund owners are encouraged to register their pooches early. Prize packag- es will be awarded to the top three inishers. The top dog at the Dogtona 400 will be one of six dachshunds to qualify to run in the televised Northwest Championship Wie- ner Dog Race. The event at- tracts racers and spectators from throughout Oregon, Washington and Montana. The winner of the Northwest Championship Race will go on to represent our region at the National Dachshund Races. Other activities are planned during the Wiener Dog Race, which serves as a fundraiser for the children’s museum. The fam- ily fun includes a hot dog eat- ing contest, children’s carnival games, rafle prizes, a bouncy house, food and beverages. PENDLETON Gymnastics sessions start soon PENDLETON — A pair of ive-week summer gymnastics sessions are being offered through Pendleton Parks & Rec. Open to ages 18 months and up, the fee ranges from $38-$48, depending on the length of the class. The irst sessions begin the week of June 13 on Monday or Wednesdays in the gymnastics studio at the Pendleton Recreation Center, 510 S.W. Dorion Ave. Participants will develop basic skills in the beam, bar, loor and vault events. Children also can further develop social skills and build self-conidence. Stanield Moose Lodge awards scholarships

STANFIELD — Erika Parks of Echo and Matie Grif-in of Stanield were awarded $2,000 scholarships by the Stanield Moose Lodge #920 and the Women’s Chapter 1713.

Also, a $500 Ray Dyer Me-morial Scholarship, established by a donation in Dyer’s name, was awarded to Laura Cornejo of Stanield.

Catholic Daughters award scholarships

HERMISTON — Two un-dergraduate scholarships were recently awarded by Catholic Daughters of America, Court #1692 to young adults from Our Lady of Angels parish. The Mar-

ilyn Harris Memorial Scholar-ships are for $750 each.

Grace Klein of Hermiston in-ished her high school studies with Mother of Divine Grace Catholic Homeschool, and is planning to attend Blue Mountain Communi-ty College to study business.

Ricardo Mendoza, also of Hermiston is a 2015 graduate of Hermiston High School with an aim to study criminal justice at BMCC.

Klein and Mendoza were se-lected from an impressive pool of applicants. Their commitment to their faith along with academic work made their efforts stand out and resulted in being awarded the scholarships.

Joe was born in North Sydney Mines, Nova Scotia, Canada. He passed away in Portland, Oregon, surround-ed by his family.

He is the ninth child of Peter and Lucinda (MacK-enzie) Stubbert. Joe was adopt-ed by Esther and Stanley Adams at the age of 9 and moved to Salt Lake City, Utah. He married Terri White in 1973 and had four children before divorcing in 1996. He lived around eastern Washington and Oregon before settling in Umatilla, Oregon, in 1986 where he lived with his fam-ily.

Joe was preceded in death by his parents and siblings, Weslie, Edward and Sandra Stubbert.

He married Barbara Hen-son in 2013. Joe is survived by Barbara, his four chil-dren Candi (Kyle) Hanson, Cherisa (Kierin) Doherty, Weslie (Kilee) Adams and Casee (Martin) Lance, and stepchildren Jaclyn Cas-torena and Greg Davis. He leaves behind grandchil-dren Andrew, Jaeden, Quin-ton, Caleb, Cade, Daniel, Kyler, Colt, Ciena, Abby, Caia, Zoey, Ashton and Kylie, stepgrandchildren Whitlee and Haylee, and great-grandson Connor. He is also survived by his broth-er Weslie Adams, who was his best friend for 60 years. His surviving brothers and sisters include Leslie, Mina,

Barbara, Faye, Marilyn, An-gus and Holly.

Joe worked as a truck driver for many years before he found his place farming. He was an incredibly hard worker and always gave his

all, no matter what job he held. He loved farming and had planned to retire this year to start his own small farm with his wife. He loved car-pentry and was al-ways building things around the house. Fishing, John Wayne westerns, family bar-becues and sleeping under the stars were

some of his greatest joys in life.

Joe will be greatly missed by his family and all the peo-ple he worked with along with the complete strangers he met and offered to help whether they asked or not. He was truly a man who would give you the shirt off of his back. He gave and gave and never expected or wanted anything in return. He took in anybody who needed help. His door was never closed. His generosity was absolutely amazing. It was who he was and it will be what he is always remem-bered for.

A celebration of life will be held June 10th at 10 a.m. at Burns Mortuary chapel, Hermiston, Oregon.

FRIDAY1:07 a.m. - Two boys on bicycles rode

through private property on East Elm Avenue, Hermiston. The property owner told them to leave but they did not. A Umatilla County sheriff’s deputy did not ind the boys.

2:59 a.m. - The Morrow County Sheriff’s Ofice and Boardman police responded to a 9-1-1 call about a silver Dodge Neon on three tires and one rim eastbound on Interstate 84 near Three Mile Canyon Farms and headed to Boardman. Law enforcement found the car at a rest stop, and the driver passed a sobriety test but refused a ride into town. Police told him they would impound his vehicle if he drives it, and he said he would call someone to get him in the morning.

8:30 a.m. - A caller reported the theft of a silver and purple 1999 Dodge with an aluminum latbed from Westfall Septic, 78131 Highway 207, Hermiston.

8:51 a.m. - A caller reported a man on Adams Road, Pendleton, was burning a debris pile while a “red lag warning” was in effect due to the hot and dry weather.

9 a.m. - A Pendleton woman on Southwest Seventh Street yelled profani-ties and threatened a neighbor regarding mowing the lawn. The neighbor called police and said he was concerned she may not be taking medication she needs for her mental health

12:01 p.m. - Umatilla police issued a citation after a caller stated a black dog chased him through his yard on Cliff Street and he had to jump into his car to get away.

1:19 p.m. - Pendleton police received a report of possible domestic violence at a home on Westgate Drive.

1:44 - 2 p.m. - Pendleton’s code enforcement oficer took down yard sale signs people posted on utility poles, which is a violation of city law.

4:01 p.m. - Another local sent money to scam artists. A Hermiston man this time reported a caller told him he won $29 million, a Mercedes and more cash from Publishers Clearing House. But to get the prizes, he needed to pay the IRS. The man said he sent $3,800 in all on June 1 and 2, then he sent $3,000 more Friday, but his wife and child told him to stop and go back to the bank, and he got back the $3,000.

5:50 p.m. - A woman told Umatilla po-lice her boyfriend was harassing her and Thursday night hit her in the head.

6:30 p.m. - A Heppner woman report-ed she received a scam phone message claiming police would come if she did not call back concerning unpaid taxes. She said she wanted the sheriff’s ofice aware if this and did not need contact.

7:09 p.m. - A man told Pendleton police someone entered his home on Southwest Goodwin Place and stole his wife’s jewelry.

11:12 p.m. - A man and woman prowled through an orchard on Tootie Lane, Milton-Freewater, and tried to get into a house where an older person lives.

11:25 p.m. - A thief stole cans from the donation trailer at Irrigon High School, 315 S.E. Wyoming Ave., Irrigon.

SATURDAY12:15 a.m. - Pendleton police

searched for but did not ind a man who harassed a woman at The Saddle Restaurant and Lounge, 2220 S.E. Court Ave., and at one point even dropped his pants.

12:52 a.m. - A woman assaulted a man at Crabby’s Underground Saloon & Dance Hall, 220 S.W. First St., Pendleton.

1:11 a.m. - Someone hit the fence at the Umatilla Army Depot on Ordinance Road, Hermiston, then left. The crash damaged the fence and the car, a depot employee reported.

6:35 a.m. - The manager of Harris Park on South Fork Walla Walla River

Road, Milton-Freewater, reported two males argued at the park, then one male drove a blue pickup and tried to run over the other for stealing items from camp.

5:14 p.m. - A son called from the Umatilla County Jail, Pendleton, and threatened to harm his mother and burn down her house.

5:41 p.m. - A Umatilla man told police he was trying to leave home after his wife kicked and hit him.

6:10 p.m. - A woman at the Morrow County Justice Court, 205 N.E. Main Ave., Irrigon, reported her children’s father keyed her car, stabbed a speaker with a knife, stole her phone about an hour ago and now will not communicate with her.

6:19 p.m. - A dog living in a home-less camp near the Moose Lodge on West Coe Avenue, Stanield, tried to bite passersby.

9:32 p.m. - Vandals jumped the fence at Ione High School, Ione, while a wed-ding was going on next door, and pushed items into the school pool, including a chair lift. The Morrow County Sheriff’s Ofice caught the suspects, talked to the parents and gave the case to the county juvenile department.

10:44 p.m. - Two males fought in the street outside 40 Taps, 337 S.W. Emi-grant Ave., Pendleton. There were about 20 people there, and police arrested one person on a warrant.

SUNDAY6:55 a.m. - One neighbor on East

Main Street, Pilot Rock, started mow-ing the yard, which bothered another neighbor, who told police this is a regular problem and asked to speak to an oficer.

3:20 p.m. - Umatilla County sheriff’s deputies tried to ind a male that lit a stick on ire and touched it to the ground on the north side of East Elm Avenue, Hermiston.

4:24 p.m. - A man on Stage Gulch Road, Stanield, reported the theft of welding equipment and tools.

6:32 p.m. - A man would not get out of the road at Southwest 20th Street, Pendleton, near Safeway.

7:56 p.m. - On and off for the last month, a caller told Pendleton police, a man in his 30s has screamed at his parents on Southwest Isaac Avenue, and now he was screaming again, using profanity and running up and down the street.

8:28 p.m. - A property asked the Umatilla County Sheriff’s Ofice for advice on her rights as a landlord after a tenant broke a lease and left a car, a refrigerator and three “truckloads of stuff” on the site.

It’s time to get dashing — the Children’s Museum of Eastern Oregon is seeking dachshund owners to enter their dogs in the 10th annual Wiener Dog Race.

With a theme of The Dogtona 400, the event is Friday, June 24 at 6 p.m. in the 400 block of Main Street in downtown Pendleton. It’s held adjacent to the weekly Pendleton Farmers’ Market.

The entry fee for participat-ing wiener dogs is $20 for those pre-registered by Thursday, June 23. The fee increases to $25 on race day. The race is limited to 40 participants, so dachshund owners are encouraged to register their pooches early. Prize packag-es will be awarded to the top three inishers.

The top dog at the Dogtona 400 will be one of six dachshunds to qualify to run in the televised Northwest Championship Wie-ner Dog Race. The event at-tracts racers and spectators from throughout Oregon, Washington and Montana. The winner of the Northwest Championship Race

will go on to represent our region at the National Dachshund Races.

Other activities are planned during the Wiener Dog Race, which serves as a fundraiser for the children’s museum. The fam-ily fun includes a hot dog eat-ing contest, children’s carnival games, rafle prizes, a bouncy

house, food and beverages.Also, a whole host of activi-

ties are planned as part of Wiener Weekend. A follow-up story in the East Oregonian will provide additional information.

Gymnastics sessions start soon

PENDLETON — A pair of ive-week summer gymnastics sessions are being offered through Pendleton Parks & Rec.

Open to ages 18 months and up, the fee ranges from $38-$48, depending on the length of the class. The irst sessions begin the week of June 13 on Monday or Wednesdays in the gymnastics studio at the Pendleton Recreation Center, 510 S.W. Dorion Ave.

Participants will develop basic skills in the beam, bar, loor and vault events. Children also can further develop social skills and

build self-conidence.The deadline to register for the

irst session is Wednesday. The second session begins the week of July 25.
