KEEPING A DIARY◦In the past, many people regularly kept personal diaries, where they recorded the day’s events and their observations. Without diarists like Anne Frank and Samuel Pepys, we wouldn’t know much about the personal side of our history.◦Although people nowadays keep blogs or vlogs, and record their lives on social media, very few of us put pen to paper and write down our experiences. Why not try it?

What can I tell in my diary?◦In the diary, usually people will tell about their personal experience. It can be their happy story, sad story, or anything else.

The functions of keeping a diary◦You can record special events.◦You can record normal events too.◦You can record your thoughts and feelings.◦ This is a kind of therapy after bad days.◦ In fact, it’s therapeutic even on good days!◦You can improve your writing skills.◦Why not try a foreign language?◦Appreciate your successes.◦Assess your mistakes.◦ Leave the future you something to look back on!

Example of Personal Experience◦ It was my grandpa’s birthday last Sunday. ◦ On Friday, my sister and I went shopping. We found a nice batik shirt. We

bought it and wrapped it in a blue paper. Blue is my grandpa’s favorite color. ◦ On Saturday morning, my brother and I helped our sister in the kitchen.

We made a birthday cake. It was big and a beautiful cake. I wrote Happy Birthday on it. We put some chocolate and a big candle on top of it.

◦ On Sunday evening, we had a party. My uncle and my aunt came to my house. They bought some cakes and flowers for my grandpa. We sat together in our living room. My dad said a beautiful prayer. Then we sang “Happy Birthday” and my grandpa blew out the candle. He cut the cake and gave it to everybody in that room. He opened his present and he was very happy with the shirt.

◦ Finally, my grandma told us some stories about grandpa. We were very glad.
