Introduction
Nickel ore in the world are classified into
two types, nickel sulfide ores and nickel oxide,
commonly called laterite.
Melting Point at 1455 C

Leaching is theprocess ofextracting a soluble
constituent from asolid by means of asolvent
Process recovery ofprecious metalsfrom leach solution

By H2S
In Precipitating by H2S the following points should be takeninto consideration :
+ A number of metal sulfides are complexed by H2S to give
solube complexes of the types MS.n
H2S. Therefore thesolubility of metals sulfides in H2S saturated water is muchgreater than in distilled water
+ Precipitation may be greatly accelerated by the addition ofa catalyst
+ The faster a precipitation reaction proceeds, precipitatemore than smooth

At the Moa Bay Plant, Cuba for recovering itwas based on H2S precipitation. The ore
containing 1.35% Ni and 0,15% Co isleached with sulfuric acid at 230oC and 500psi.

By Hydrogen
Precipitation by gas occurred in hightemperature and high pressure
This method is most economical when
applied to concentrated solutions

Using nickel powder as a catalyst
The activation energy in the temperaturerange 150-175oC is 13,7 kkal/mol
And in the temperature range 175-200oC is
5,7 kkal/mol

Precipitation nickel from an acid medium takes place homogeneusly
In a fact we must used heterogen not homogen because Equlibriumconditions are more favorable
At the Sherrit Gordon Plant, the purified leach solution obtained by amonical
pressure leaching of Ni-Co sulfide concentrate contains 45g/l Ni, 1 g/l Co,350 g/l ammonium sulfate and enough free ammonia to give an[NH3]/[Ni
2+] + [Co2+]=2
The purified solution is reacted with H2 at 500 psi and 200oC. Ni will be
precipitated and Co still in solution
