Director's MessageHealthcare Sector is witnessing connued high growth world over and more so in India. The parcipaon of private sector in providing health care, changing mind-set of promong prevenve health care and the need to balance spiraling healthcare costs (both out of pocket and state funded) and acceptable quality standards has brought to the fore the complexity and scale of Health care management.Goa Instute of Management, in response to this demand of quality Health Care Management carried out intensive research lasng three years in designing the curriculum and pedagogy drawn from experiences of the best B-Schools across the world to put together the two year full me residenal PGDM HCM program. This AICTE approved program comprehensively focuses on management aspects of all the constuents of health care industry and is thus differenated from other programs which address only technical issues for specific areas only.GIM’s close associaon with the health care industry in meeng its specific training needs, is more than a decade old. We have trained many doctors including deans and medical superintendents through our execuve development programs. The instute has organised three naonal conferences on various topics pertaining to healthcare and our eminent faculty members have published a large number of books, research arcles and case studies on healthcare management. The pioneering PGDM HCM program launched in July 2013 has aracted aspirants from various Disciplines (Medicine, Nursing, Pharma, Bio sciences, Engineering ...), Experience profiles and Geographic regions which makes the class vibrant and enhances learning. We are certain that for a domain as complex as healthcare, these skilled budding managers who are sensised to current healthcare issues and trends and also equipped with the knowledge provided by this well designed program will contribute immensely to the Industry.I invite you to come and be a part of our placement process and provide our talented and commied healthcare management students opportunity to be a partner in your endeavours.

Mr PFX D'Lima

Dean’s MessageI am happy to present to you the first batch of PGDM in Healthcare Management of Goa Instute of Management for the placement process. This program has been designed on lines of the best healthcare management programs in the world under the guidance of a steering commiee of healthcare industry leaders including the chief execuves of Abbo Healthcare, Wockhardt Hospitals, Johnson & Johnson Medical Asia Pacific and senior execuves from Cognizant Technology soluons, Merck &Sanofi. This program focuses on developing managers grounded soundly in all business funcons and who also understand 5 healthcare industry domains: hospitals, pharmaceucals, medical devices, healthcare insurance and public health. Another differenang factor in the program is the high emphasis on understanding healthcare pracce. Students spend an enre day every week working in a healthcare seng (ranging from government hospitals to medical device companies, pharmacies, primary health centres and pharmaceucal plants) on supervised projects. They have studied funconing of operaon theatres, EMRI emergency services, automated producon lines, have understood the registraon to discharge process, billing systems and many other intricacies of the complex healthcare delivery system. The batch of 49 PGDM Healthcare Management students have been selected from 856 applicants. These students come from 17 different states of India and from diverse educaonal backgrounds ranging from denstry, pharmacy, biotechnology, nursing and medicine to economics, management, commerce, hospitality and engineering. With an almost equal gender mix and 50% of the batch comprising students with work experience. This diversity enhances peer-to-peer learning and provides a superior classroom experience.Owing to the program design, hands-on industry experience and exposure to a diverse group of program parcipants, the PGDM Healthcare Management 2013-15 batch disnguish themselves as best suited for careers in the healthcare industry.I extend a warm welcome to the healthcare industry to visit our campus, interact with our students and parcipate in our placement process.

About GIMGoa Instute of Management, a reputed business school was started in 1993 by Father Romuald D'Souza along with the help of a governing board consisng of Goa's most prominent industrialists, thinkers and chaired by then Chairman of Hindustan Unilever, Mr Susim Daa; the instute has built itself a reputaon for value-based educaon. Under acve guidance of the steering

commiee, curriculum has been designed on

lines of Healthcare Management programs

offered by Ivy League business schools in the

US, taking into account salient differences in

the Indian healthcare system.

The two year course offers an eclecc mix of

core management subjects as well as domain

specific healthcare subjects.

Unlike any other healthcare management

program in the country, this program

prepares future managers in all the major

domains of the healthcare industry.

A disncve feature of the program is an

extensive exposure to the funconing of the

healthcare industry through a first-hand

experience of working closely with hospitals

and healthcare instuons.

On Thursdays, students observe and study

working of private and government hospitals,

pharmaceucal & medical device

manufacturing, and delivery of public health

programs.

Healthcare Thursdays go beyond typical

‘Industry visits’ by including structured tasks

& analysis that students perform in these

professional healthcare environments.

Students are guided by GIM faculty and

managers at the healthcare facility.

Know Your Healthcare ProviderThe weekly affair that helps the students gain hands on experience

across Healthcare sectors. The exposure that students gain is

phenomenal. It is field based learning consisng of projects related

to credit courses. This acvity which is done on every

Thursday, equips the student with the “know how” to deal with real

me scenarios.

PROF. MEENA PARULEKAR

“Healthcare MBA’s due to their strong grounding in functional disciplines of business

management plus their exposure to the nuances of pharmaceuticals, hospitals and medical

devices makes them better suited to face the challenges of the industry. With this

background, a healthcare manager can actually work around situations to create a

positive impact in the organization. The ability to understand technicalities while adding

value to the business is a strong precursor for innovation and technology.”

STAVITA BALI

“My background in Operations Research,

helped me think analytically but my

experience in HCM program at GIM left me

speechless when I got an opportunity to see

surgeries live in an OT.”

ABHIJEET ASHOK GUJAR

“During my midterm break, I had the

opportunity to visit Aravind Eye Care Systems,

one of the best examples of vertical integration

of an organization to reach operational

excellence and managing healthcare services at

affordable rates. They have an excellent range

of training courses for their staff and are a self-

sufficient and independent unit.”Student

SWATI SINGH

“Visiting Tata Memorial Centre was a great

learning experience. It has state of the art

infrastructure as well as a highly efficient

administration and management. TMC

handles hundreds of patients from all over the

world belonging to different social and

economic strata every day.”

We Come From…

We Go To…Some of our recruiters over the years:

11

● 40 plus full time faculty

● Coming from prestigious institutions such as Harvard, Cornell, Leuven, IIMAhmedabad

Globally, the major concern facing government healthcare policy is making it possible to provide access to quality healthcare for the entire population and not just the privileged few. I strongly feel that Health Care Managers at GIM have the ability to make a positive impact on the system by using their out of box thinking skills and knowledge to bring in innovations in healthcare delivery that are high in quality and yet are cost efficient.

by Prof. Aadesh Chaturvedi

“With around 75 percent of India's population still without any health insurance cover, high out of pocket expenditure, rising cost of healthcare, evolving population clusters, attention to Non-Communicable diseases, and the government's commitment to universal healthcare access, the future will be extremely important for the Health insurance industry”.

by Prof. HARISH SIHARE

The demand for health care is increasing owing to the demographics, as well as attraction of medical tourism. But we still face major challenge regarding facilities and accessibility. GIM's effort at producing managers focussed on the health care sector is therefore a right step. The focus gets sharpened by separating this from the general PGDM programme.

placement in reputed healthcare companies across the country. Talent each students gained during their rst year clubbed with the rigorous ef fort of placement cell helped in

industry realizing the potential of these students, which ultimately converted in to summer placement opportunities. The companies who participated in summer placement process are:
