Women’s Summer Walk & Dinner Series

LWML Ruth Pond Scholarship Fund

The Ruth Pond Scholarship Fund continues to assist families with Preschool tuition when it is difficult for them financially. Memorials received in memory of Ruth Pond, former teacher for Redeemer Lutheran Preschool, are used for tuition scholarships. These monies give us a new opportunity to provide financial assistance to children who might otherwise not be able to attend preschool where they can learn of Jesus and grow in faith.

If you would like to donate to this very important Scholarship Fund please place your donation in an envelope marked “Ruth Pond Scholarship Fund” and place it in the offering or deliver it to the church office.

The next summer walk will be Monday, August 14 with a rain date of Tuesday, August 15. Ruth Ball has said her large perennial garden is at it's peak at that time and we are invited to go there to walk around her garden. Ruth lives in Skandia, just outside of Chocolay Township off US 41 South. Her address is 180 Orchard Lane.

We will meet at 5:30 p.m. as usual but go out for dinner first. The restaurant will be Vango’s. After dinner we can drive out to Ball's garden with arrival time to be approximately 7 p.m. Anyone who wants to carpool can do so. Sharon can take about 3 Harvey women in her van but will not be going back to Marquette afterwards . A rain date for Tuesday, August 15 is set.

Please sign up on the sign-up sheet in the narthex. Call Sharon Roshak, Outreach & Fellowship Coordinator, with any questions at 249-3203.

Come and meet or bring some old or new friends.

I was chosen to be the Zone 2 delegate to the 75th anniversary LWML convention in Albuquerque, NM June 22-25. What an honor and what an experience! It was especially special because Deaconess Betty led the Bible study for 3,500 God-praising Lutherans. We voted on the mission grants for 2017-2019. Twenty-two (22) grants were selected, totaling $2,075,000. Some examples are $27,750, Christ for Veterans and Their Families, $100,000 for Lutheran Children’s Books for Families Worldwide, and $ 93,000 for Training Lutheran Middle Eastern Missionaries. Seventy-one (71) countries have received mites grants over 75 years. Please bring your mission mites the first weekend of each month. The large Mite box will be on the Welcome Center.

Volunteer's Needed

Sunday School & King’s Kids Teachers Needed

We are currently building our Sunday School teaching teams and King’s Kids staff for the 2017-2018

school year. Have you considered being involved in our Children’s Ministry?

Sunday School classes for children age 3 through grade six will begin on Sunday, September 10, 9:30 a.m. Bible studies for Junior and Senior High Youth will begin that day also.

King’s Kids, our children’s ministry opportunity on Saturday nights, will be on summer break during the month of August. Plan to join us on September 9. With the beginning of the new school year comes an opportunity for new volunteers to be brought onto the team!

Our Children’s Ministry staff utilizes a team teaching approach and has found this to be very helpful both to help our teachers accommodate their busy schedules and to give the children multiple positive role models.

Most classes have a team of three teachers who share the class preparation and leadership on a rotating basis.

To volunteer, call DCE Anna Dauffenbach (228-9883) or Pam Ott, King’s Kids Coordinator (273-0280).

Do you have an interest in using a computer and video camera?

If you answered yes to these questions you may be the volunteer we are looking for. The Media Team runs the worship PowerPoint and records the worship services so they can be put on our web site and copied for our shut-ins. We are in need of more media volunteers. Please consider this opportunity to offer your time and talents for this important service. Contact DCE Anna, Amy or Donna at the church office (228-9883) to inquire about training to be on the Media Team.

Victory Mission Team

On August 13th , we will be serving BBQ Chicken and BBQ Pork sandwiches to our family at Victory Lutheran. We’ll be serving the sandwiches with various salads and ice cream sundaes for dessert. Help in providing food items and serving is needed and always appreciated. Please see the sign-up sheet at the Welcome Center in the Narthex. BE A VICTORY VOLUNTEER

IT’S A GOOD THING!

Redeemer Lutheran members live their love and faith in God by participating in missions throughout the United States and in the world. If you don’t have the time or funds available to participate in such mission work – we have a monthly neighborhood mission that needs you!

Pastor Steve Hulke once referred to Victory as “an inner-city church in a rural setting.” Located in Gwinn at Sawyer, Victory struggles with the needs of the people of their community and a transient population. Victory has a core of several regular members and a faithful pastor in Deacon John Weber. They provide worship services and many Senior and youth group functions to provide a safe gathering space where the word of God may be planted and/or nourished in people who need to hear it.

Redeemer provides a good meal to the folks at Victory on the second Sunday of each month. Coordinators are needed to organize meals and get food and servers from Victory Volunteers through sign-up sheets (at the Welcome Center). The menu’s, recipes and sign-up sheet templates have already been created and will be available to the new Coordinators. Help will be available to assist in the transition. The total time commitment varies but is usually no more than 5 hours per month. Please consider becoming the next Victory Meal Coordinator! Contact Pastor Chad or DCE Anna.

The Mission Board is collecting school items for the 2018 Honduras mission trip. We will be collecting pencils, colored pencils, erasers, and sharpeners for the children in the small villages. Thank you for your help in this important mission.

Using SCRIP Cards Puts Your Grocery Dollars to Work for a Great Cause!

You spend a big portion of your monthly budget on groceries for your family. But did you know there’s a way to make all that money work for a good cause?

By using SCRIP to pay for your regular grocery purchases, you can earn funds for Redeemer’s Preschool, Child Care and Youth Ministry every time you shop. You pay face value and your SCRIP card is worth face value, but our organization earns a rebate on every card purchased. See how much you can earn:

How much can I raise per year?

If you spend $100 a week on groceries and the store gives a 3% rebate by the end of the year (52 weeks) your SCRIP purchases would have earned our ministries $156.

If you spend $200 a week on groceries and the store gives a 3% rebate by the end of the year (52 weeks) your SCRIP purchases would have earned our ministries $416!

Imagine if 10 people were using SCRIP to just pay for their groceries! How about 20, 30, 100 or more people?

And SCRIP cards are available for more than just grocery stores. You can get them for Kohls, Menards, Gander Mountain, the Pasta Shop, Holiday Gas, Applebee’s, T.J. Maxx, Walgreens, Walmart—and the list goes on and on.

Please consider using SCRIP cards for all of your purchases! Your shopping dollars equal financial support for our special ministries! SCRIP is available in the church office during regular office hours and after each worship service.
