Last Wednesday, we reflected together on our experiences of Spiritual Formation and Worship. Interestingly, it was difficult to separate the table groups’ responses…

Here is a summary of our reflections:

“I don’t like the word ‘Formation.’ What is wrong with ‘education?’”

(response at the same table)

“Perhaps formation encompasses more than education.”

Linked with this broad encompassing, someone noted how worship draws on “our total Being: mind, language, spirit, and body.”

What do we mean when we say that the youth—and everyone—should be “grounded in the Word?”

What are ways we could more intentionally study the Bible?

(my question): Is it for information only, or is it for formation/transformation?

Page 7: Reflections on Spiritual Formation and Worship at Grace Church GWAG responses April 9, 2014

What does it mean to “know God?”

What would feed you?

Noting the formative experience of fellowship at Grace…no strict separation here. E.g. quarterly combined services at 10 am to foster a deeper sense of community.

Page 9: Reflections on Spiritual Formation and Worship at Grace Church GWAG responses April 9, 2014

What are ways we can find balance in our lives?

Retreats?

The meaningfulness of the Centering Prayer group.

Page 10: Reflections on Spiritual Formation and Worship at Grace Church GWAG responses April 9, 2014

How can we explore different types of prayer.

E.g., Jeff Jones offering a class on contemplative prayer this Sunday (April 13).

Page 11: Reflections on Spiritual Formation and Worship at Grace Church GWAG responses April 9, 2014

How can we be more participatory in our formation? E.g., the children’s prayer wall.

What are other ways we can use this?

Page 12: Reflections on Spiritual Formation and Worship at Grace Church GWAG responses April 9, 2014

How can we form “circles” at the parish, ways to share intentional community?

Page 13: Reflections on Spiritual Formation and Worship at Grace Church GWAG responses April 9, 2014

How can we explore trips for adults, opportunities to travel abroad for study and fellowship?

England, Europe, etc.

Page 14: Reflections on Spiritual Formation and Worship at Grace Church GWAG responses April 9, 2014

What would it be like for Grace to be a “teaching church?” For us to be a place where interns, seminarians, and curates come to learn and explore their own vocations more intentionally?

Page 15: Reflections on Spiritual Formation and Worship at Grace Church GWAG responses April 9, 2014

How can we learn more about our Tradition?

Instructed Eucharists? Reflecting together on “What is the purpose of being in church?”

Page 16: Reflections on Spiritual Formation and Worship at Grace Church GWAG responses April 9, 2014

How can we explore different worship styles? - Contemplative services- Taize’- Evening services

Page 17: Reflections on Spiritual Formation and Worship at Grace Church GWAG responses April 9, 2014

How can we be even more participatory in our worship? E.g., having a space to light votive candles, learning more about healing prayer, having the young people learn more about serving in the service.

A (not so) final thought:

“I hope the best is yet to come.”
