All Florida Region VIII Utilities are invited to participate and provide one sample of their potable water. All entries will be judged and one will be selected as the “FSAWWA Region VIII Best Tasting Drinking Water Contest Winner.” The Region VIII winner will be invited to participate in a state contest for the “Best of the Best” Tasting Drinking Water Contest” during the Florida Water Resources Conference (FWRC) to be held at Tampa Convention Center on Tuesday, April 16, 2019. Please review and comply with the sample and judging requirements. Mail or fax registration form to Brad Macek using the above information no later than March 21, 2019. “Best Tasting Drinking Water Contest 2019” Drinking Water Taste Test Sponsored by FSAWWA Region VIII

Sample and Judging Requirements

1. Each participating Region VIII Utility is to provide one, one (1) gallon sample jug of their water. The container must be either glass or PETE (polyethylene terepthalate) plas-tic bottles.

2. Sample is to be submitted the day of the exhibition, March 28, 2019, by 10:30 a.m. Sam-ples to be hand delivered to the Port St. Lucie Community Center.

3. Sample is to be submitted to a FSAWWA “Best Tasting Drinking Water Contest, Region VIII” representative.

4. Each sample will be logged in at time of receipt. Sample will be logged in randomly, to maintain anonymity of the supplier.

5. Water sample cannot be chilled – water must be at room temperature or the sample will be disqualified. Samples must be collected no more than 24 hours prior to the test and

must be stored continuously at a temperature between 50o and 70o F.

6. The water utility must comply with all MCL’s and must not have any water quality vio-lations from a regulatory agency for the current or prior calendar year or be under regu-latory consent decree or order for its water quality.

7. The Region VIII winner will go on to compete in the FSAWWA 2019 State Drinking Wa-ter Taste Test and must comply with any applicable rules for that competition.

8. Samples will be judged in alphabetical order beginning with Sample A.

9. A 50 ml sample will be prepared. Each judge will be given one 50 ml sample. The judge is requested to evaluate the sample on the following grading scale.

a. Taste 1-5 (1 being poor and 5 being best) b. Odor 1-5 (1 being poor and 5 being best) c. Color 1-5 (1 being poor and 5 being best) d. Clarity 1-5 (1 being poor and 5 being best)

10. Item 9 will be repeated until each sample has been judged.

11. The sample with the highest cumulative score will be given the title of “Best Tasting Drinking Water Contest, Region VIII Winner 2019”.

12. The next highest cumulative scored sample will be given the title of “Best Tasting Drink-ing Water Contest, Region VIII, Runner Up, 2019.”
