Qualifications Reid Kerr College is approved by the Scottish Qualifications Authority (SQA) to deliver a range of academicand vocational qualifications, including Higher National Diplomas (HNDs); Higher National Certificates(HNCs); National Certificates (NCs); Professional Development Awards (PDAs); Scottish VocationalQualifications (SVQs); National Qualifications at Access, Intermediate 1, Intermediate 2, Higher, AdvancedHigher, Skills for Work and National Progression Award programmes.
The College also offers a further range of programmes certificated by City & Guilds, NEBOSH, CharteredManagement Institute, Chartered Institute of Marketing and a range of other professional bodies.
Which Qualification Is Right For You?
National Qualifications: National Qualifications provide a broad range of options for progression beyondStandard Grade and are available at five levels:
Access HigherIntermediate 1 Advanced HigherIntermediate 2
These qualifications normally consist of three units, plus an external assessment. Each unit counts as aqualification in its own right (a National Unit), so even if you don’t sit or pass the external assessment youstill get credit for the units you have successfully achieved.
National Certificate (NC): These courses are appropriate for those with little or no prior knowledge of aspecialist subject. It is particularly suitable for learners with few or no formal qualifications or for thosereturning to education after a break of some years. It is a full-time course of either six months (January FastTrack) or 1 year duration, it may also be possible to study on a part-time basis.
Higher National Certificate (HNC): This is an advanced course with subjects studied in greater depth thanat NQ/NC level. Generally younger students would be expected to possess one or two highers orappropriate NC for entry. Mature students without these qualifications may gain direct entry withappropriate work or life experience. Check course details for entry requirements. HNC’s are offered on afull-time, part-time or distance learning basis. Full-time courses are of a year’s duration or six months (FastTrack). Successful completion of an HNC can lead to progression to the 2nd year of a relevant HND or directentry into many degree courses at either 1st or 2nd year level.
Higher National Diploma (HND): This is a two year advanced course normally undertaken on a full-timebasis, although some are available by part-time study. This course allows students to study a wider varietyof subjects than at HNC. Entry requirements for an HND are similar to that for an HNC. Successful completionprovides wider access to the jobs market and can lead to direct entry into 2nd and sometimes 3rd year ofparticular degree courses. There are direct articulation routes from HNC to HND.
Scottish Vocational Qualifications (SVQ): SVQs are work based qualifications designed to equip studentswith skills directly related to their job. They are designed by industry for industry and are available at avariety of levels to encourage continual learning progression.
Entry qualifications are for general guidance only. If you are interested, but unsure of which course of studymay be best for you please apply and we will provide expert advice and guidance.
Please do not hesitate to contact our Admissions Unit on 0800 052 7343.

Scottish Credit & Qualifications Framework (SCQF): The Scottish Credit and Qualifications Framework (SCQF),has been designed to enable learners, employers, parentsand those involved in providing education to understandhow Scottish qualifications relate to each other.
The framework was developed in partnership betweenthe Scottish Executive, Scottish Qualifications Authority(SQA), Universities Scotland and the Quality AssuranceAgency for Higher Education. It brings most mainstreamqualifications from Access 1 (SCQF Level 1) to DoctorateDegree (SCQF Level 12) into a single framework.
Every qualification currently in the framework has beenassigned an SCQF level and credit value. The SCQF level isa measure of how demanding a qualification is.A notional 10 hours of learning is given 1 SCQF creditpoint. Qualifications placed at the same level indicate that the level of learning gained in each qualificationis comparable but not the same in content or purpose e.g. Level 8 contains HND and SVQ level 4 awards.
SCQF information is now included on all Scottish Qualifications Authority Certificates.
Current Qualifications in the Framework
“
Having completed the Chartered Management Institute (CMI)Executive Diploma in Management, I recently secured a seniorposition within the Transport Control Department in Bermuda.Without this crucial Management training I could not apply for thispost and I am confident that this qualification has successfully carriedme through to this stage of my career. There are many benefits tostudying by Distance Learning in particular the ongoing support fromLecturers and the on-line resources made available by Reid KerrCollege. Accessing course materials could not have been easier and theon-line community function provided me with all the means of supportneeded from the lecturers, who communicated regularly and delivereda very efficient programme via e-mail and the College website.

The Seventeenth Century - A band formed while atCollege. The Seventeenth Century’s big breakcame when they played T in The Park. Theyrecently launched the new BBC Introducing Showon Radio 1, playing live on the show.
I think the experience gained through studyingat Reid Kerr College was definitely instrumental toour success. We met at college and formed theband there and the support from our lecturers wascrucial to the development of our sound.

“
The course was hard work and although I had no previousexperience of Information Systems, the teaching support wasexcellent and I settled in very quickly to my new life here. I was gladthat I made the move to Scotland and onto College, as it has lead tomany great experiences, all of which have prepared me well forworking after my full-time education comes to an end.

“
I enrolled at Reid Kerr College in Paisley following my 5th year athigh school. I wanted to experience life outside of the school systemand take a year at College in preparation for university. With aninterest from school, I took an HNC in Business with the College'sBusiness School, and studied full-time for one year. Making thetransition from school to College could not have been easier. Theatmosphere at Reid Kerr was great and I made a great number offriends while I was there. With a supportive team of lecturers andthe opportunity to take a selection of optional subjects as well as whatwas core to the programme, made my year at Reid Kerr a veryenjoyable one.

I went through school with very little interest in learning andfollowing a chat with some of my family who also have Dyslexia I madethe decision to speak with the specialist staff at the College. Followingan assessment with the Learning Plus section, the staff quicklyrecognised my additional learning needs and it has been this support atReid Kerr that has carried me through my studies and ultimately helpedme change my life for the better. Since receiving the support at College, not only have I achieved the qualifications that I set out to gain, but Ihave learned how to work with my condition and get the best out of my learning. All of thestaff including the lecturers within the Engineering department have been incrediblysupportive and I was never once made to feel as though I was different from anyone else inmy class. Having Dyslexia means that I have to put in extra work over and above theregular class work and it was the friendly, approachable staff that made the additionallearning really enjoyable.

Any opportunity to focus and develop your skills in photography, whilst being given constant projects and feedback on your work is a goodone. No matter your background or area of interest in photography eventhe time alone dedicated to just constantly taking photos whilst havingfacilities and equipment made available to you is invaluable and givesyou a base on which to build, no matter where you're planning to go.If it wasn't for Reid Kerr College I wouldn't have applied to thecompetition for the Royal commission, and some of the work that Ipresented as part of my presentation and portfolio was shot either in thestudios, or on location as part of projects I undertook or started whilst on the course.
