About this document: This is the beta document for the Morale rules for Tor Gaming’s Relics tabletop wargame.
This document is intended for use by the tabletop wargaming public and is issued to
encourage the gaming community to try the rules and feedback their findings and thoughts
to us.
We have included, for completeness, the areas of Morale that are affected by ‘Command’. It
is possible to use these rules without the ‘Command’ rules, just consider units as ‘In
command range of an un‐activated commander’ when working out the morale modifiers.
MORALE The ability to keep your force fighting is just as important as what weapons you give them.
During a game, there will be times when you need to check a unit’s morale. These include,
but are not restricted too:
• Unit taking enough damage to take its current damage value to below half its
starting value. Note, this is the unit’s total number of damage points, not model
count.
• Loss of a commander
• Specific rule; in these situations, the rule wording will provide guidance.
When
making
a
morale
roll,
the
player
rolls
2d6
and
adds
the
unit’s
Morale
stat
and
other
modifiers (See Modifiers.) to the result.
If the modified ‘Morale’ roll result is equal or greater than 12, the unit passes its morale test
and is unaffected.
If the modified ‘Morale’ roll result is less than 12, the unit fails its morale test and must
observe the rules below.
Death of a Commander Units that are only in the command range of a single Commander and that Commander is
removed from the game, the unit must immediately make a morale check.
If the unit is within range of a second Commander at the time, the unit does not need to
check morale for the loss of the first commander.
Failing morale because of Melee attacks The unit stays where they are and the player must place a shaken counter on the unit.
Failing morale because of Ranged attacks

Shaken and obscured terrain Whilst shaken, if the unit reaches terrain that provides more than half of the unit with
'obscured' status, or activates whilst in ‘obscured’ status, immediately make a morale check.
If the unit passes, the player immediately removes the shaken counter and may face the
models in any direction but may not move them. The unit’s activation ends immediately.
Shaken commanders Commanders that have a shaken counter on them count their command value as half its
current value.
Failing Morale checks when Shaken Unless specified in the ruling that is causing a morale check, a shaken unit that fails a morale
check has had its will to fight smashed; remove the unit from the table as casualties.
Supported unit Keeping your units supported with other units is very important. When a unit needs to check
morale, check to see if the unit is supported.
To count as being supported, the range between the testing unit and majority of the closest
friendly unit must be less than the range to the majority of the closest enemy unit.
You need to be able to draw an uninterrupted line between the testing units and
enemy/friendly units and these units must not be in melee in order to use them for the
‘Supported unit’ check. If the line would cross a piece of LoS blocking terrain or the unit you
are measuring too is in melee, check the next closest unit.
Modifiers Positive: In command range of an un‐activated commander: +1
Testing unit in obscuring terrain: +1
Unit supported: +1
Negative: Caused by AOE attack: ‐1
In Melee: ‐1
Shaken: ‐1
Overkill (per point of ‘Overkill’): ‐1
Unit strength is at a third or less starting damage value: ‐1
Unit not supported: ‐1
Unit not in command range of an un‐activated commander: ‐1
