YEAR 2 FUN! Year 2 have been learning all about Science this term with the unit “All mixed up”. They made a mixture of playdough which they then used to learn about fractions in maths. To finish up their unit both classes explored the Coke and Mentos experiment. Which was heaps of fun! Mrs J McAleer (2M)
“In Science we made a bottle of coke and a bottle of lemonade fizz up. We went outside to do the experiment. Mrs Bliss put two Mentos in the coke. The coke went kaboom! It went all over the place. I was shocked.” By Logan 2M When we put the Mentos in the Coke-a-Cola it fizzed up with bubbles and overflowed for a ‘loooo..ng’ time. With the lemonade it didn’t do anything, just some little bubbles went up. Even when we put the coke and lemonade together it still didn’t do anything it just stayed where it was. That part was boring just boring, boring, boring.” By Angus 2M
“At home we make playdough the same as we made at school. We use flour, cream of tartar, salt, oil and food colouring. We had to knead the food colouring into the dough and it was so sticky icky, so we had to add more flour. I was in group one with Mrs Snape.” By Ella 2M
P & C News
Meetings in the staffroom 7:30 2nd Tuesday of the month
during school terms
March 2015
Welcome to 2015 As President of the P&C for 2015 I would like to extend a
warm welcome to all the new and returning families for
2015. I hope that you and your children have settled
into your school routines.
I don’t know about you but, as a parent of a kindy child,
I’m finding it hard to believe that we are already at the
end of term 1.
The P&C Annual General Meeting (AGM) was held on
Tuesday 10 March. Amongst other things such as
reviewing the efforts of the P&C’s previous year (more
on this later in the bulletin) a new board with a couple of
new faces was elected.
The board for 2015 consists of:
President: Lindsay Hollingsworth
Vice President: Susan Wright
Secretary: Jo Buckmaster
Treasurer: Kylie Baker
Canteen Co-ordinator: Andrew Cahill
Uniform Co-ordinator: Megan Ironside
Sports Convener: Chris Bradley
I would like to thank the board of 2014 for the time and
effort that you put in. I know the staff and students
appreciate the donations that were made to the school
as a result.
I look forward to working with the members of the
board and other volunteers in making 2015 a year that
we can all be proud of our small school and the
community efforts of the volunteers.
Til next time,
Lindsay
Why “Do” P&C? Taken from the P&C Federation Newsletter
I volunteer at my child’s school. It is my local school.
I find that giving up an hour or two each month to attend
meetings where we as a group get to have a direct
impact on my child’s learning is priceless. I appreciate
the fundraising that the P&C needs to do to ensure that
our children have access to educational materials and
great facilities. I don’t mind lending a hand.
It’s the least that I can do every now and then.
My children like that I am involved in their school life
and they love it when they see me at the stall or helping
out at school community events. P&C has allowed me
to develop my skills. I have a better understanding of
meeting practices and I have made lasting friendships.
P&C for me also offers opportunities for my children,
I get to show them the good that people can bring to
their community, I am giving them a model to aspire to,
I am showing them that I value their education, that they
are not alone.
I am Involved
These reasons may not interest you but I bet there is
something for you at P&C. Our P&C is looking for
members of the school community who are willing and
able to give as little or as much time as they are can.
Your child’s school can only benefit of a
successful P&C
How can you Help? The best way to find out what is going on is to attend a
few P&C meetings to find out how things work. The
Berinba P & C meets in the staff room at 7:30pm on the
2nd Tuesday of every month during school terms. There
is always a warm welcome and if you are lucky maybe
even some supper and cuppa, especially for anyone
willing to lend a hand with our many activities,
throughout the year.
All positions of the Executive committee for 2015 have
been filled. However, we are looking for volunteers to
assist in the running of various fundraising activities
throughout 2015.
If you can’t make it to meetings, please register your
interest in volunteering with Lindsay on 0411 133 400 or
Kylie 0438 939 026 or by emailing
Last Years Efforts In 2014 your P&C raised over $10,000, with over $6,500
coming from our share of the food stall at the
Murrumbateman field days. The fields days were our
biggest yet.
The P&C donated over $3,000 for new library books,
$2,000 for dictionaries and world globes and we
purchased 6 new bookshelves for the K-2 classrooms.
It’s amazing what a school of our size can achieve.
2015 School “Wish List” At the AGM Relieving Principal, Chris Bradley gave the
P&C the beginning of a “wish list”. A list of items that
the staff would like to see in the school is a great way for
the fundraising goals of the P&C to be set. Some of the
items on the “wish list” are:
Library furniture
Sandpit toys
Pinboards/soundproofing for Year 1 rooms
Curtains/Blinds for demountable classrooms
Skylight blinds for year 5/6 rooms and library
Electric sharpeners
Interactive projectors for the 2 demountable
classrooms
Playground equipment for the primary area
Extraordinary meeting At our first P&C for the year the President called for an
Extraordinary meeting. The purpose of this meeting is to
focus on our fundraising activities for 2015. As you can
see the “Wish List” is extensive and with Term 1 having
already passed us by, we really need to focus our efforts
on new and exciting fundraising ideas that will have
excellent returns to the P&C.
You are encouraged to come along to this meeting to
share your ideas and experiences in fundraising or
perhaps you would like to volunteer some of your time
towards a fundraising event, even an hour is appreciated.
This meeting will be held at 7:30pm on Tuesday 21st
April in the staff room
Uniform Shop
A decision has been made by the P&C to change the
hours of the uniform shop to meet the demands of the
parents. From term 2, the uniform shop will be open
every 2nd Friday from 8:45am to 9:30am. Dates will be
advised in the school bulletin. Don’t forget that you can
place an order through the office for collection at a later
date. Opening dates for term 2 are 24 Apr, 1 May,
15 May, 29 May, 12 Jun & 26 Jun.
P&C Levy A letter went out with the last school bulletin advising
that the P&C levy were now due.
A massive thank you to the 23 families that have
already paid, your contribution is appreciated.
Proceeds from the levy help with purchasing learning
materials and equipment that the Department of
Education does not provide adequate funding for.
The 2015 levy is $35 per child OR $70 per family
