Fiberglass:The Steel Beater

Most homeowners want an entry door that delivers two things:

design and performance. That’s why more and more people are

turning to fiberglass instead of steel.

Steel doors dent, ding, scratch, rust, corrode and often need to be

repaired or replaced. Fiberglass products clearly outperform even

high-quality steel doors, especially in the long term.

Therma-Tru® engineers put our entry and patio doors through a

battery of tests to ensure that every door can withstand weather

and other factors.

One test, the Missile Impact Test, includes shooting 8-foot long

2" x 4" stud wood "missiles," at 35mph into our doors. The strong

performance of Therma-Tru® fiberglass doors in this test means

drastically reduced callbacks during construction and remodeling

projects – a huge benefit in time and cost savings.

Steel entryways are often perceived as being the most secure.

However, Therma-Tru® Smooth Star® fiberglass doors earned the

highest possible rating for resistance to forced entry — ASTM F-476

Section 18 Grade 40(1) — as measured by a premier independent

testing agency.
