Remote Learning for AllConsiderations
35
Technology
Devices
● Survey staff and students to determine number of devices to loan
● Spend grant money to purchase roughly 2,200 chromebooks
● Budgeting for devices to go 1:1 at high school via a leasing program
● Consider implementing a technology fee of $50 to help with 1:1 sustainability at junior high and
high school
** Current inventory levels are backordered until September/October for Chromebook devices
Support
● Section on the website with training documents for parents
● Organize “Office Hours” for technology support for staff
● Work with curriculum to address in-house software constraints
36
Meal Delivery Considerations
● Meal count requirement will resume to identify the number of free, reduced and
paid lunches being distributed
● Offer vs. Serve requirement will resume to provide choices in entree, vegetable
and fruit offerings
● Meals delivered by busses to strategic locations throughout the district
● Individual meal delivery may be required for McKinney-Vento and foster
students as well as those living in rural areas of the District
● Significant reduction of Sales to Students revenue as free/reduced students would
likely be the only participants
● Standard National School Lunch Program (NSLP) reimbursement rates will
resume
37
Transportation Considerations
● Continue transportation to private placement facilities
● Completion of safety lane inspections
● Deliver meals to students
● Assist with curbside services throughout the district
● Provide staff support to Kids Connection
● Unknown if the non-curricular routes will be reimbursable on transportation claim
38
Building & Grounds Considerations
● Sanitize areas where building is used: Kids Connection areas, building rentals,
offices, etc.
● Focus on needed painting, floor stripping, carpet cleaning, lighting replacements,
organizing storage closets, door repairs, parking lot striping and other building
maintenance projects that have been difficult to complete when school is in
session.
● Continue grounds work such as mowing, weeding, etc.
● Energy savings when buildings are not 100% occupied
39
Safety Protocols in a Remote Environment
Student Services leadership will provide:
● Procedural steps for administration response to: health/safety needs and concerns,
inappropriate behavior (disruption/bully/threat), risk of harm to self/others, etc.
● Protocols to monitor daily attendance, mental health, and academic progress to
connect resources for students who are struggling (e.g. DCFS/Foster, McKinney-
Vento, Truants, GOAL, Homebound/Hospitalized)
● Guidance for case-by-case investigation, intervention, and discipline aligned to
the Student Rights and Responsibilities handbook
● Daily notification to building administration regarding student email account
alerts when school is in session for intervention/response
● Support for quarantine/notification procedures aligned to agency guidance 40
Staffing Considerations
● Significantly reduces the need for telework requests during remote instruction
● Maintains current staffing levels, except transportation
● Reduces demand for substitutes, but would require us to provide or otherwise
ensure substitutes have video functionality and logins
● Decreases potential costs from medical, worker’s compensation, and
unemployment claims
41
Remote Learning for AllFinancial Impact
42
Potential Savings
43
Potential New Expenses
● With any reduction in force, we will see a corresponding increase in
unemployment
● A significant increase in medical claims will cause a future premium increase
● Additional technology needs: ChromeBooks, WiFi connectivity, etc.
● Training for substitutes, drivers, etc. to assist with remote learning
44
