Hi, Beal Students and Families!
The schedule below will help you with your daily work. Have fun learning!
Remote Learning Lessons for Grade: Science Grade 5 Week 5
Week of: 5/4
Tasks: Monday

Questions How old is the Earth?
Activity 1. Watch mystery answering questions as you go.
2. Watch the bonus. Answer questions as you go.
3. Pick any of the different bonus activities. Take photos and post
them to me on Class Dojo.

B. Make a plastic-bottle planter or a piggy bank.
Make an air monster. Tasks: Tuesday

natural-resource/123?code=MTY5OTU3MDA&t=student
In this Mystery, students construct an explanation about a surprising
phenomenon: the existence of underground water. In the activity,
Wanted: A Well, students play a game in which they must obtain and
combine information about groundwater in order to select the best site
to build a town. They evaluate the features of the landscape, plants in
the area, and clues from the soil and then decide where to dig a well.
Questions When you turn on the faucet, where does the water come from?
Activity 1. This week we will continue our unit about the importance of
Earth’s fresh water. Our lesson is called, “When you turn on the
faucet, where does the water come from?” We will learn how in
many places water can seep into porous ground and remain there.
These places are called aquifers, and these are where many
people get their drinking water from.
2. You can encourage your child’s curiosity at home! Watch and
discuss this video where people are pulling up water from deep
underground: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=StWCNiLuMxI
3. Spark a conversation by asking your child, “What is this
structure called?” (It’s a well.) “Why do you think there is
water in the ground—where do you think it came from?” If you
know any family members or friends who get their water from a
well, this would be a great opportunity to mention it to your
child, helping them to make a more personal connection to the
ideas.
4. Watch mystery and answer questions as you go.
5. Experiment: Do the experiment taking pictures as you go if you
have the equipment. Follow the mystery with the instructions of
the activity. If you need to improvise please do. You need:
scissors, spoon, table covering, paper towels, water, food
coloring, clear box or bowl, gravel, straw, pump from soap
dispenser, handouts
6. Complete activity from handouts.
7. Complete assessment.
8. Complete Aquifer Station activity if you have time. This is an
additional activity. Tasks: Wednesday Must Do
Video StemScopes: Reading Science B-Watersheds. Log onto StemScopes
through the Student Applications. Go to Assignments. Click on Reading
Science B-Watersheds.
Questions How does the water cycle work?
Activity 1. Read Watersheds.
2. Reread Watersheds answering questions as you do. Use text
evidence to help you.
3. Turn in when completed.
These are the review challenge assignments for this week. Go to STEMscopes and
complete the questions on the following assignments. Let's see how many shout outs I
can give this week. Send me a message when you are finished. If you think you have
finished already check to make sure I have not returned anything to you.
1. Multiple Choice Assessment from The Hydrologic Cycle. Use the STEMscopedia to
reference for answers.
2. Concept Attainment Quiz from The Hydrologic Cycle. Use the STEMscopedia to
reference for answers.
3. STEMscopedia from Hydrologic Cycle.
4. Content Connections Video-Glaciers 1
5. Content Connections Video-Glacier 2
I have posted a list of websites on the bealelementary.org page. Please choose activities
that your child would like to explore. Please pick an activity from the list to do with
your scientist each day that you don’t do an assignment. Have fun and stay curious.
