Your support could bring meaning into lives –A step towards Social Transformation
Despite availability of water sources like streams and wells, a majority of farmers are dependent on
rain-fed farming.
Agriculture contributes only 15% of our GDP, but provides a direct livelihood for 52% of our
population, and indirectly to 73%.
Poor or non available electric supply and high operational costs of diesel pumps are the reason for
a single crop produced per year.
High labour costs (hiring) and reduction of family members (migration) makes farming nonviable.
Poor farmers with small land holdings who cannot even afford quality seeds, cannot even dream
of using technology to increase the yield for reaping multiple crops.
Women have to walk 500 m to 6 km one way to fetch a pot load of water on difficult terrain
Is it then a surprise that there is large
scale migration to towns and cities,
even if to live amidst squalor &
unhygienic conditions, leaving behind
beautifully landscaped, clean
environments of their villages??
How can we use technology to
create sustainable conditions for the
return of migrants and stem further
migration from villages?

Maharashtra
At Pabal, near Rajgurunagar,
Pune, the
Janasangam
Kendra takes
care of children who are poor, homeless or
orphans. The caretaker and his family (Shri
Ghare) are farmers who have
quit farming as unviable
Of the 1 acre plot, 20 guntas was
earlier a farmland dried up due to
non availability of facility to irrigate
the land from existing well
For the past 3 years, diesel &
maintenance costs were daunting.
Hence Mr. Gharehad stopped
farming
Post installation of the solar water
pumping system, Shri Ghare has
been able to farm on 20 guntas of
land.
The entire landscape is now different -
with onions, tomatoes and
brinjals planted by Shri Ghare.

Community of 600 families.
The women of Dengachimethad to carry water in pots
and vessels on their heads for over a distance of 1000m,
uphill.
The existing diesel pump was unaffordable to operate by the villagers - thereby leaving the
existing water tank located in the middle of the village with out water.

HNIs’ & Corporate folks: from darkness to light
Despite tall claims of the government about electrification for villages, there
are several villages / wadas within 70 kms of Pune & Nashik without electricity.
MSEDCL proudly states that villages receiving less than 1513 hours of electricity
per year have a different rate than those with > 1513 hours of electricity. i.e. 4
hours per day.
Dnyanupur,Andhalegaon (grampanchayat) , is a case study in this presentation
where villagers have seen light in their home after 3 generations (70 years).
Dear HNIs’ & Corporate Members, can we bring light in their homes & lives?
A mere Rs 125000 (incl. transportation & installation) would light up10
homes with 2 LED (4W) bulbs, a table fan and 2 USB ports for mobile
charging with a backup of 6 to 8 hours!
