Current situation in wind power in Finland:

Finnish wind power technology exports are considerable (generators and freq. converters, gears, blade materials and blade parts, tower materials and towers, instruments, wind turbines, etc. )

Employed over 3000 persons

90 % of the products were exported

0,3 % of the electricity in Finland is produced with wind (0,3 TWh)

Energy strategy of Finland: target 6 TWh annual wind power production by 2020

Page 6: Renewable Energy Webinar: 15-Apr-2011

The challenges

• Lack of skilled staff -> education is only starting

• The national research on wind energy modest → technology program needed

• Still lack of reference projects in Finland• Installed capacity 130 turbines, 197 MW

• Legislation is finally set

• Waiting for the projects to receive building permits
