• Oracle Hyperion Enterprise Performance Management release 11.1.2.2 was released in April 2012 and represents the third release for the 11.1.2.x platform.• Release 11.1.2.0 was released in April 2010• Release 11.1.2.1 was released in April 2011• Release 11.1.2.2 was released in April 2012

• While release 11.1.2.2 is the third release on the 11.1.2.x platform and is denoted with a minor release title, some products in this release have major new functionality and new modules / products were introduced. This release is more than just bug fixes for the 11.1.2.1 version.

11.1.2.2 Introduction




• Premier Support for Oracle Hyperion EPM release 11.1.2.2 expires in April 2015.

• The April 2015 end date for 11.1.2.2 is the same for all 11.1.2.x products as 11.1.2.0 and 11.1.2.1 have the same end date for premier support.

• Customers have the option of purchasing extended support for all versions on 11.1.2.x and that additional payment provides product development support coverage until April 2018.

New Features & Functionality in the Financial Close Suite





• Oracle includes the following products in the Financial Close suite:– Hyperion Financial Management (HFM)– Financial Data Quality Management (FDM)– Financial Close Management– Account Reconciliation Module – New Module!– Disclosure Management– Oracle Financial Management Analytics – New Product!

• Overall, release 11.1.2.2 in the Financial Close Suite is a major release highlighted by the changes in HFM and the introduction of new modules / products: Account Reconciliation Module and Oracle Financial Management Analytics.

Introduction to Financial Close Suite




• HFM in 11.1.2.2 received major changes and in our view are the most extensive changes to HFM in the last approximately 6 years (since version 3.5 to 4.0).

• The highlights of the changes are the following:– Configurable Dimensionality– New User Interface– Administration Changes and Enhanced Data Retrieval Engine

HFM




• With HFM 11.1.2.2, you now have the option of having more than 4 custom dimensions.

– You are required to have at least 2 custom dimensions in your application (due to currency), but you can have as few as 2 or more than 4 now.

• There is a limit to the number of dimensions and this is based on two factors –your underlying database (SQL, Oracle, IBM DB2) and the ‘size’ of your custom dimensions.

• Now when you create an HFM application, you are required to select a ‘size’ for your custom dimensions (Large, Medium or Small). The size is based on your expected total number of members in that dimension, not number with records. – Large dimensions can hold up to 2 billion members.– Medium dimensions can hold up to 32,000 members.– Small dimensions can hold up to 128 members.

• Since the dimension is created in the application profile, you cannot delete a dimension in your application anymore.

HFM Configurable Dimensionality




• You can determine your application limit through a formula. With SQL server, you could have approximately 20 medium sized custom dimensions, 10 large custom dimensions, 40 small custom dimensions or a combination of 10 medium and 20 small dimensions.

• In reality, almost every client will have more than enough custom dimensions available to them for what they would need. It does pose interesting design options in whether you should ‘stack’ multiple items into a same dimension (like Balance Sheet Movements and Product Grouping) or separate it into different dimensions (like how you design Essbase).

• There are a few key items to be aware of:– Very, very few clients even get close to having 32,000 members in a custom. So we view the

main decision on most designs to be whether to use Medium or Small sized dimensions. – Small type dimensions are good for a ‘data type’ dimension where you do not have a ton of

members (you are limited to 128).– You can store more dimensions than what is referenced above with Oracle and IBM DB2

databases.

HFM Configurable Dimensionality Cont.




• Due to this change, HFM had to change the way it refers to customs. In the past, in rules and Smart View formulas it was always referred to as C1, C2 or Custom1, Custom2. Now, you must define a Custom dimension name and Alias. The Custom dimension name is how you will refer to that dimension in rules and Smart View (similar to how you refer to it in Planning and Essbase).

– For example, let’s say now that you have ‘Custom 1’ and you give it a name as Prod and an Alias of Products. You would no longer put ‘Custom1#’ in your Smart View formula but would put ‘Prod# or Products#’ instead.

– For those companies migrating, HFM will name the dimension C1 with an Alias of Custom 1. If you were using an Alias name in HFM, bit will migrate that to the Alias in 11.1.2.2.

• Right now, you do not have the ability to add additional customs to a migrated HFM application. You would have to create a new application to obtain additional custom dimensions.

– PSU 101 is expected to introduce this functionality.

• In 11.1.2.2, HFM has a new user interface. This interface was built using Oracle’s ADF framework and matches the interface used by the other 11.1.2.2 products.

• The new user interface provides an updated and richer color scheme.• The biggest benefit in our view is some of the features you can do with the

updated user interface:– You can have more ‘tabs’ open: You can have multiple applications open at the same time in

Workspace and can have multiple web forms, data grids and journals open in separate tabs within the same application.

– You can move columns around in a grid view (HFM data grid, HFM Journals). So you can move the Debits and Credits columns up next to Account in a Journal Entry grid.

– In the Journals module, you can move dimensions that have the same value for all records into a Page Filter view. So if you have Custom 2 set to [None] for every entry, you can drag and drop the Custom 2 column into the page POV and then your journal entry grid will be smaller.

– You have better filter capabilities inside HFM through the new user interface. A filter exists to the left of your grid and allows you to do multi‐selection filters on columns. For example, in the Journals module, you can filter by balance type (Balanced) by Status (Posted).

– Finally, they did change the order of menu items some to group things more logically together (All journal tasks are grouped together).

• HFM 11.1.2.2 has some changes to administration features:– Extended Analytics and Data Extract have been ‘merged’ into one. So you can now extract data

out of HFM and select custom dimension members / value dimension members, etc.. that you could in Extended Analytics.

– The HFM client has been reduced to only include Managed Metadata and Application Profile. You can no longer upload data, metadata or login to an application via the client.

– You have 1 screen to upload all HFM application objects (Security, Metadata, Rules, etc..)

• HFM improved the Data Retrieval engine that is used for grid display (in data grids, Financial Reporting, etc..). This should improve performance overall for grids that have many sub‐cubes.

• A new Web Form / Data Grid designer exists. You have a graphical wizard to build forms / grids.

• HFM grids can now be pulled into Smart View.• The 11.1.2.2 release initially does not have a few items: Equity Pickup Module,

Task Flows and Intercompany Transaction Module. This are expected to be included in PSU 101.

App Profile




• A new module was introduced to the Financial Close suite to satisfy GL Account Reconciliations named Account Reconciliations Module (ARM). The focus of this module is for Accounting reconciliations, not Operational reconciliations.

– Accounting Reconciliations are the activity of performing a review and reconciliation of balances at the end of each month to ensure accuracy and compliance.

• ARM was designed to help manage and support the following activities:– Balance Sheet Reconciliation Process– Consolidation System Reconciliation Process– Local GAAP Reconciliation Process.

• It provides some key functionality for these activities:– Auto Reconciliation of accounts with zero balances.– Advanced workflow, including email notification, review and commentary, supporting

documents, approval / rejection.– Monitoring of the status of all reconciliations

Account Reconciliations Module




• The module, Account Reconciliations Module (ARM) is a component of Financial Close Management. When you access Financial Close Management, you have the choice of launching into Financial Close Management (for task management) or into Account Reconciliations (for performing / reviewing your GL account reconciliations). ARM is licensed with Financial Close Management.

• ARM uses ERP Integrator (ERPi) to load and map source data into the GL Account reconciliations. FDM is not supported as an integration tool to load to ARM.

– ERPi was updated in release 11.1.2.2 to be able to import Flat files, in addition to the supported source systems it supports (see later slide).

• ARM can be thought of as is own repository of information to support the account reconciliation process that is separate from HFM, Planning, Essbase, etc.. You do not need HFM, Essbase or Planning to use this tool.

• Overall, our impressions are this is a very good first release and will help a large amount of customers doing reconciliations in Excel or offline tools.





• Overall, very little was updated in 11.1.2.2 for pure FDM. The only noticeable change was that the Intersection Validation report was returned to an HTML format (previously it was changed to .XML that caused some Internet Explorer rendering issues). FDM did update the HFM adapter to be able to work with the configurable dimensionality of HFM.

• ERPi did receive some new features and functionality:– You can now set up an Import Format to import a flat file.– Multi‐Dimensional mapping exists – one mapping rule could contain different mapping rules for

multiple dimensions.

• ERPi offers direct connection / source system drill‐back support on the following source systems:

– Oracle E‐Business Suite – 11i, 12– JDE Enterprise version ‐ 9.0– PeopleSoft Financial Management / Human Capital Management – 9.0, 9.1– SAP ERP Financial 4.7c, ECC 6.0 enhancement pack 4.0+

FDM / ERPi Changes




ERPi Multi‐Dimensional Mapping




• Oracle Financial Management Analytics (OFMA) was technically released for introduction at Oracle Open World in the fall, but is a part of the 11.1.2.2 platform.

• OFMA uses Oracle Business Intelligence Enterprise Edition (OBIEE) to produce dashboard reporting against HFM.

• A set of preset dashboards have been built and are included in the product. The dashboards may / may not require changes depending on your HFM application setup and design.

• The dashboards directly connect to HFM and can be viewed on many devices (including iPad with the Oracle App).

• Disclosure Management did not have many updates to the product. The next release of Disclosure Management is expected to introduce more advanced workflow and collaboration features. Right now some workflow features could be leveraged with Financial Close Management.

• Financial Close Management added some minor enhancements to its functionality of updating and maintaining project tasks and workflow.

• Overall, release 11.1.2.2 in the Planning Suite is a medium release highlighted by some new features in the products and the introduction of the Project Financial Planning module.

Introduction to Planning Suite




• Planning in 11.1.2.2 received medium changes with some continued improved usability features and a new module. Overall in the 11.1.2.x platform, Planning has had significant and continued usability improvements in every release.

• The few key highlights of the changes are the following:– Continued Usability improvements with Planning– Predictive Planning – a new Excel based feature based on Crystal Ball

technology.– Project Financial Planning – New Module!

Planning




• The user interface changes in 11.1.2.2 Planning are organized largely around the display and functionality available in the web.

• The order / display of forms, folders and dimensions within Planning has been updated. The functionality of items such as forms, folders and workflow is largely the same, with some exceptions, but everything looks much different.

• One really nice feature is the introduction of CHARTS. Bar charts, pie charts, line charts, etc. can be rendered as an option of a form. With this, we see a lot of potential capabilities with composite forms where you have data grids in one section and charts in another.

• In addition, the expansion of members in forms has been improved and it appears to be smoother.

• The process and ability to build and manage forms has been updated and improved (similar to HFM it is more graphical wizard based).

• A new feature to help forms with rolling forecasts that cross fiscal years was included.• One item we noticed initially is that it appears you have to now double click on a cell to

go into ‘edit mode’.

• 11.1.2.2 included some features that will help with the administration of the applications.

• A new, more friendly, wizard helps in assigning business rules to specific forms.

• The Planning ‘classic’ metadata management functionality, which allows the ability to add metadata members into Planning directly, has been updated. It is improved in how you select / edit members and metadata properties. It is still not as advanced as EPMA or DRM, but it is a nice improvement.

• In 11.1.2.2, Oracle has included functionality to do predictive modeling and analysis in Planning web forms in Excel. This feature, called ‘Predictive Planning’, is a form of Crystal Ball technology.

• The feature will use your historical data as a reference point to generate data values for future periods (i.e. use historical data for Actuals to seed your starting point for your Forecast or Plan).

• With your Planning license, you get a limited use of Crystal Ball for the ability to run the predictive functionality. If you felt that you needed full Crystal Ball features beyond predictive functionality, you would need to license Crystal Ball.

• This feature exists in the Planning Smart View ribbon as the ‘Predict’ functionality. This feature does not currently exist in web based web forms or ad‐hoc grids.

• A new module was introduced in 11.1.2.2 – Project Financial Planning.

• This module is similar to WorkForce and Capital Asset in that it is a pre‐packaged module with some calculations, forms, metadata, menus, etc.. already built. These pre‐packaged modules can be a great starting point for rolling out this functionality as it can reduce the overall build and implementation effort.

• Overall, the module is built for analyzing and planning for contract, capital and indirect projects.

• Expense Planning at detail level or account level– Labor, Material, Equipment

• Driver based overhead calculation for Projects• Different types of Revenue Planning based on the type of contract projects

– Time & Material, Fixed Price, Cost Plus– Periodic or Milestone based Revenue Recognition

• Overall, release 11.1.2.2 for the ‘other’ products is a minor release with some new features in the products.

• HFM Functionality in Smart View:– Smart View can handle the configurable dimensionality changes.

– You can open Data Grids in Smart View

• Planning Functionality in Smart View:– Smart View supports the updated form changes into Excel mode.

– You can now manage approvals in Smart View.– As discussed previously, the Predictive Planning ‘Predict’ feature is a new option in the Smart View ribbon.

• Essbase had some minor changes in 11.1.2.2. A few key items are the following:– UNC Path support for Essbase clusters (in PSU 100)– Administration of Essbase log levels into Administration Services Console.– Ability to have larger cache sizes than 4 GB

• Essbase Studio had a few new items in 11.1.2.2:– Ability to resynchronize Essbase models once hierarchies and cube schemas

are updated.– You can deploy cubes in streaming and non‐streaming modes.– Support for Oracle RAC data sources.

• One interesting feature is that Oracle Financial Reporting changed the way that they generate PDF’s. In prior releases, you were required to install GhostScript or Adobe Distiller to serve as the engine for generating PDF reports. Now Oracle Financial Reporting has updated this and you no longer need a third party PDF generator.

• There were a few other minor functionality improvements:– Support for HFM configurable dimensionality– Additional options in LifeCycle Management for (migrating batch jobs, user

POV’s and annotations)– Some changes to formatting options.

• Hyperion Strategic Finance– The big change for HSF is that Smart View is now the primary user interface

for HSF. This is a replacement to the HSF client.

• Data Relationship Management (DRM)– In 11.1.2.2, DRM now has an EPMA connection. EPMA can import

hierarchies and properties directly from DRM. The potential benefit of this is for the following:

• EPMA has synchronization capabilities. You could push DRM items to EPMA and use EPMA for deployment (as opposed to DRM exporting flat files).

• EPMA could import some dimensions from DRM and then have other dimensions being built and maintained directly into EPMA.

– Some additional DRM features were introduced related to versions and export functionality.

• Windows Server is still the only server operating system supported for all Oracle Hyperion EPM products.– Windows Server 2003 (SP2/R2) and 2008 (SP2/R2) are supported in 32 bit /

64 bit modes.– Solaris, AIX, Red Hat, Oracle Linux and SLES have support for selected EPM

products (Planning, Essbase, etc..).

• 11.1.2.2 reintroduced Web Application support for WebSphere. WebLogic and WebSphere are both supported.

• Overall, Oracle’s product strategy largely does not support ‘Mixed Mode’ versioning of products. You cannot run version 11.1.2.2 HFM with 11.1.2.1 Foundation (Shared Services) or Financial Reporting. Likewise, you can’t run 11.1.2.2 Foundation against 11.1.2.1 Planning.– This means that all products in your environment have to be on the same

version (11.1.2.2 Foundation, 11.1.2.2 HFM, 11.1.2.2 Planning).

• The one exception to this rule is Smart View. You can run 11.1.2.2 Smart View against prior releases of EPM applications. Smart View 11.1.2.2 can run against the following:– Essbase: 11.1.2.x, 11.1.1.4, 11.1.1.3.500, 9.3.3– Planning: 11.1.2.x, 11.1.1.4, 11.1.1.3, 9.3.3– HFM: 11.1.2.x, 11.1.1.4, 11.1.1.3, 9.3.3

EPM Product Support


11.1.2.2 Upgrade Considerations





• An updated EPM system installer has been included with 11.1.2.2. The 11.1.2.2 EPM system installer contains a common install and configuration wizard for all products. It also contains some select product upgrade functionality.

• You have two installation options for 11.1.2.2:– New Installation: installing version 11.1.2.2 onto a new server.– Maintenance Release: install version 11.1.2.2 on top of 11.1.2.1 or 11.1.2.0

on an existing server.

• Overall, the large majority of clients choose to upgrade onto newserver hardware. 11.1.2.2 would be installed on the new hardware and then applications can be migrated and tested while the existing environment operates. An ‘in‐place’ upgrade is possible, but it can be risky and require a lengthy system downtime.

11.1.2.2 Installation




• You can upgrade your applications either using system schema based conversion utilities or manually by extracting application objects and importing them into 11.1.2.2.

• For schema based conversions, you can upgrade the following application versions to 11.1.2.2:– 11.1.2.1, 11.1.2.0– 11.1.1.4, 11.1.1.3– 9.3.3

• For a company not on one of the versions listed (i.e. 9.3.1 or 11.1.1.2), you will have to first upgrade to a supported version and then to 11.1.2.2. – For example, you would have to upgrade some environment from 9.3.1 to

9.3.3 first to use the 9.3.3. to 11.1.2.2 conversion utilities.

• Pros:– The conversion utilities migrate all data, metadata, log info and status (process level, consolidation). The application looks exactly the same after the utility runs – e.g. if something was not consolidated before running the utility, it will not be consolidated after running the utility.

– In HFM: All journal information and process management information is preserved.

– If the company is already on a supported upgrade release (i.e. 11.1.1.3) and if the utility runs without errors, the conversion should be faster than a manual rebuild.

Schema Update Utility Pros




• Cons:– If the company is not on a supported upgrade version (i.e. 9.3.1 or 11.1.1.2), they would have to perform an interim step and install some supported release such as 9.3.3 or 11.1.1.3. They would then upgrade their applications from their current release to a supported release to 11.1.2.2.

– By running the conversion utility, the company may miss an opportunity to ‘clean up’ the application and database. For example, there may be unnecessary clutter in the application that could be removed by doing a manual rebuild.

Schema Update Utility Cons




• Pros:– No matter what release the company was previously using, there is no need

to install a version other than 11.1.2.2 as an interim step.– The manual rebuild is an opportunity to remove the ‘clutter’ from the

application. For example, you may decide not to migrate unused web forms, web grids, or even some of the older years of data. Entities and accounts that have not been used within the last 5 years are also often good candidates for clean‐up.

– The manual rebuild can help you uncover some ‘surprises’ at a more opportune time than during a close. For example, it is possible that a recent metadata or rule change will impact historical data that was not re‐consolidated at the time the change was made. Discovering and resolving items such as this is better done during an upgrade than at a more inconvenient time, such as a close.

• Cons:– Depending upon the volume of data and the volume of ‘surprises’

encountered when data is reloaded and reconsolidated / re‐calculated, the manual conversion can take quite a bit longer than using the schema update utility.

– The manual rebuild does not convert log information. – Details related to journals (HFM) and process management (Planning / HFM)

(e.g. User, Time, etc.) will be lost. Journals and process management in the new, rebuilt application will have the information from the person rebuilding the application.

– Converting the application artifacts / documents (web forms, web grids, etc.) as well as recreating their folder structures can also be time‐consuming.
