REOPENING PLANS FOR 2020-2021 With the establishment of a statewide Return to Learn Advisory Council, much is occurring that will provide all schools with guidance. The work of this statewide committee is being informed by the latest data and recommendations from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) as well as the Michigan Department of Health and Human Services. This group will be releasing their return to school plans on June 30th. At Immanuel, we have established a Reopening Task Force along with teacher teams to develop our plans for next school year. Short of a state mandate, we intend to reopen school in person, on-campus. We strongly believe that being together, in-person is the best environment to help children grow academically, socially, emotionally, and most importantly spiritually.

What’s New This Week _______________________________________________________________________________________________

JANET HILSABECK - RETIREMENT Join us on Sunday, July 19th after the 9:30 am worship service in the Community Center as we celebrate Mrs. Hilsabeck! Mrs. Hilsabeck wraps up an amazing ministry at Immanuel and several other Lutheran schools on June 30th. Janet has blessed the Immanuel community for nearly 6 years and the ministry of God’s church for 38 years in Lutheran schools. Janet’s ministry has made a major impact on the hearts and lives of children and their parents here at Immanuel:

Preschool Director for over 1,500 students. Blessed hundreds of children on Sundays through her leadership on the Family Life Team. Led our baptismal classes and scheduling, therefore God’s vessel at bringing 430 children and 39 adults to baptism.

Janet’s heart beats the same as Jesus’. A heart for children, a desire to see all brought to the grace-filled waters of baptism, and for all to know Him and to share His love. Well done, good and faithful servant!

WELCOME ANDREA WEISS – Preschool Director/Family Life Minister (age 0-5) We are excited to welcome Miss Andrea Weiss to our staff. These uniforms are almost identical in style and fit to Lands’ End. French Toast offers some great deals. MATH ENRICHMENT Four Ways to Help Boost Your Child’s Math Skills Over the Summer Summer learning loss, combined with the COVID-slide, can be a significant issue, playing a large role in creating an achievement gap. This is especially the case for math, even more so than reading. Reading activities are part of the fabric of daily life, but it is easy to forget that math exists outside the classroom and is present in many everyday activities. Here are some ways parents can help their children practice math skills over the summer:

1. Highlight the math in everyday activities: measurement in cooking, calculations in dealing with money, distance while driving, calculate sports statistics, etc.

2. Play math games: Yahtzee, Racko, Blokus, Monopoly, jigsaw puzzles, Jenga, etc. 3. Read short math stories together: Bedtime Math books or Family Math series. 4. For more focused math practice, consider these sites:
