Reliable and optimized steam generators for Long-Term Operation (LTO)

The challenge

The fi rst generations of Steam Generators (SG) using Inconel 600 alloys (particularly alloys with-out thermal treatment) have been confronted by corrosion issues leading to the necessity to plug damaged tubes. The corrosion of the tubes varied considerably from one plant to the other and was highly impacted by chemistry management in the early days of the plant.

In order to ensure the safety and reliability of the plant in the longer term the Inconel 600 SG must be replaced especially when LTO is envisaged.

Utilities can take advantage of such replacements to uprate the plant.

The solution

With 340 Steam Generators designed and manu-factured including 100 Replacement Steam Gen-erators, AREVA has gained extensive experience that supports its capability to supply highly reliable steam generators. AREVA products also benefi t from operating experi-ence: improvements have been implemented to reduce the deposits and performance has been improved.

Combined with optimized chemistry management, steam generator replacement can consequently contribute to improve the performance of the plant for long-term operation.

Additionally the axial economizer technology can effi ciently support Power uprates.
