CHAPTER 1
1.1 Introduction
A claim to obtain halal is one of the important focuses of every individual Muslim in the
world because it is one of the commands of God through His Messenger. Eating halal is
one of the main features of the physical development of healthy, especially for the
development of human minds and hearts. Knowledge of the precision and clear about
the rules of slaughter according to the principles of the Sharia is important because it is
closely related to health factors.
Furthermore, the concept of slaughtering in Islam or zabiha must also be disclosed as
soon as possible so that worship is not seen as a brutal act of animal torture and based
on the views of non-muslims who see it almost every year during Eid al-Adha.
Gombak Agros role as a supplier and importer of halal meat gives big impact on
residents in the city. This is because the rapid pace of development cause more difficult
for people to get fresh meat and which is secured with halal status. With the existence
of places such as Gombak Agro, Muslim communities do not have to worry about
finding the freshest and halal meat to eat. In addition to providing breeding stock,
indirectly Gombak Agro has done kifayah for lawful hunting area provides a full
development.
1.2 Background and research problem
According to early reviews almost every weekend many people come to find animals
such as cows and goats for a particular purpose. Livestock supplies such as the city
area get high demand because as we know city area have a rapid development and nothave many supplier have at city area. It gives advantage for Gombak Agro to get many
customer and success in their business. Most customers come to the Gombak Agro
want livestock is slaughtered and processed at the Gombak Agro because most of them
perform Akikah and Catering. Given such high demand, this study will focus on the

slaughtering process done at Gombak Agro to ensure the process is done according to
the Islam.
1.3 The purpose and scope of the study
This study aims to review the overall management and research on slaughter
conducted at Gombak Agro according to the Quran and Sunnah. The scope of study will
not only review the management of the slaughter but examine the problems associated
with the slaughter.
1.4 The objective of this study
1) Identifying methods of slaughter in Gombak Agro
2) Identifying the place of slaughter follow the terms.
3) Ensure that the consent of the authorities
4) Identifying problems regarding slaughter at Gombak Agro

CHAPTER 2
INTRODUCTION OF COMPANY
2.1 Farm Establishment
Generating ideas from the Felda citizen at Jengka Pahang, Haji Noor Azzuddin
determined to start his own bussiness in selling cattles. In the year of 1998, he opened
a cattle breeding farm at Pahang. It was a farm which was collabarated with a palm oil
plantation. After 3 years, the oil palm tree has grow taller thus prevented the sunlight to
reach the grass to grow. This situation leads to an unsuitable area for the animal to
graze. After lots of thinking, Haji Noor Azzuddin decided to closed his farm. Despite he
had to closed his farm, he already gained a lots of profit.
Using the profit that he gained from previous farm at Pahang, he found a new
and strategic area at Gombak. Gombak Agrofarm was opened in the year of 2000. At
first, no animal house was build. The animal which was imported from Thailand was
placed inside an area that covered only by cyclone fencing. The business scope was
also changed. He was no longer breed the animal but trade the animal. This farm was
build to supply the increasing demand of cattle for the Gombak citizen for festival
purposes only which is during Hari Raya Aidilfitri.
After 5 years running his bussiness, Haji Noor Azzuddin decided to officially
opened his bussinesses. He started by applying approval to use the lands which was
owns to the state government and Selangor water company corporation. He also rent a
piece of land which was own by the villager there. After legally own all the pieces of
land, the sum of the total area of the farm is approxiamately 2.5 acre. One acre for the
infrastructure area and another 1.5 is for razing area. Then, he started to build all the
infrastructures that needs for a farm to run including cemented cattle area, workers
houses and office. He also had broaded his bussiness in selling sheep and goat. The
cost for opened the farm is around RM80000.

The main objective of the farm is to help the government in increasing the protein
sources and halal food supply for Lembah Klang citizen especially for Muslim. This is
because, the core business of this farm are based in Aqiqah1 and Qorban2.
2.2 Farm Organization
According to the chart above, there are only six persons involving in managing
the farm. The highest position is owned by the owner of the company. His position is asthe farm General manager. His jobs are providing the capital for all the transaction that

occurred and managing in buying of the animal. The animals are bought from exporter
from Thailand and Australia.
The secondhighest position is Vice Manager and Catering Manager. The tasks
for Vice Manager are to manage all the permit application and order from the
government tender. As for Catering Manager, her tasks are in managing in catering
services such as cooking.
One supervisor is placed in this farm. His jobs are to supervise all the
workers and manage the records keeping. The records that been supervised are date of
slaughter, number of animal dead and many more. There are only two workers in this
farm. Their jobs are to manage all the animals, housing, sales, slaughtering process
and the promotion3.
2.3 Farm Principal
In order to make sure that this farm is continously to supply the demand for meat
and making profit, this farm has four principal that must be followed. The first principal is
to make a strong foundation. A strong foundation can be produce by make sure that all
the cost to setup the farm at the beginning has been covered. This farm was build using
the profit from the previous farm business. So, this farm already has a strong foundation
at the beginning of its establishment.
The second principle is capital turnover. Capital turnover is when the the return
capital that gained from selling the first batch animals is use again as capital to buy the
second batch of animal stocks. This principal will ensure that there is always inflow of
money to buy animals. Thus, this will make sure that there will always animals stocks
for the customer to choose or to book first.

The third principle is practices. The practices that always have been applied by
this farm are never buying anything using credit. Haji Noor Azzuddin never even once
buy the animals, vehicles and animal feed in credit. This include in all the payment such
as for animal permit and bills. He paid all of them in cash. This principle is the most
important principle for him because he was focusing in Qorban and Aqiqah businesses.
This is to make sure that his customer have fully own on on their animal.
The last principal is profit. Profit only can be classified as profit when all the debts
are being paid and the capital for turnover are already being seperate. Profit earn can
be use to expand the businesses. Profits gained have been used to broaded a Haji
Noor Azzuddin business which is in agricultural businesses. It also can be used for
individual purposes.

2.4 Farm infrasructures
Below is the farm layout of Gombak Agro Farm that has been captured by
satellite image. All the farm infrastructures were build on 1 acre lands. Another 2.5
acres are for the grazing area. The infrastructures are include of office, garage, dining
area, workers house, abbatoir, feed store, cattle feedlot cemented area, sheep and goat
slatted house, skin preserving house. The most important facilities in the farm are cattle
feedlot, plus sheep and goat house. The area of cattle feedlot cemented area is 100
feet times 15 feet. The maximum number of cattles that it can hold is around 400 to 500
cattles. This situation only occurs during festive season such as Eid Fitri and Eid Adha.
This area consists of resting area, feed bunk, water drinker and places of hanging for
mineral block. The area for sheep and goat slatted house are around 2400 square feet.
The maximum number of animal that can be placed around 2000 sheep and goats.
2.5 FARM MANAGEMENT
2.5.1 Permit Application
Permit is very essential for the entire farm in this country. According to the Animal
Act 1953 (The Rules of Animal (Control of Slaughtering) 2009) permit are required when
the animals are required to transfer from one country to another country and when the
animals are needed to be slaughter.
There are few steps in application of these permits. These permits must be applied
at least 2 working days before slaughter. If the animals are being slaughter outside the
slaughter house, Form 5 must be filled. There are different fees for different animals. Ahead of cattle, sheep or goat are RM 35 and RM 25 respectively. Certificate of animal
health is also necessary. There are RM2 each for every animal.
Gombak Agro Farm had merged to a seasonal business farm to a daily business
farm. There are problems to get slaughtering permit for every slaughtering session.

Animal that had been booked before the slaughter day can be applied for the permit.
Unfortunately, slaughter may occur every day. Animal might be select and slaughter
during the same day. There is no time for the farm to apply for the slaughter permit. In
other circumstances, the number of the animal that might be slaughter for the next 2
days will be never known. This will lead to a problem which is; how many permit needs
to be applied. If the farm applied for only 2 permits for the next 2 days, but the animal
that will be slaughter is none; this will lead to loss to the farm.
Furthermore, the amount of fee to get for slaughtering permit is quite high. In a
month, the lowest number of animal that been slaughtered are 44 ferrals and 4 cattles.
This will cost around one thousand Ringgit Malaysia slaughter permit just for a month.

2.5.2 Buying Animal
Depend on the demand and supply of the products, the number of animal stock in
the farm will be determined. Although the demands of the product are high, if the
number of the animal supply is low, only small number of animal can be requested. This
situation occurs in the late of 2010 when Australia is attack by flood. Even though the
demands for the animals are high, only small number of goats was supplied to Gombak
Agro farm.
There are various sources of animals that this farm applied their animal from.
Beef cattle are obtained from Thailand. Beef cattle that being bought is majorly thin.
This is because; Gombak Agro Farm will undergo a fattening process for the beef cattle.
This is to make sure that the animals are in a good shape before they are being sold. As
for sheep and goats, the animals are obtained from Australia and local farms. Sheep
and goats that come from Australia and local farms must be in a good health and ready
to be sold.
Ten days of quarantine are required for all the sheep and goats that come from
Australia before they are ship to Malaysia. At the beginning of its businesses, Gombak
Agro Farm does their own importation of animals. After few years, they find that being
an animal importer is very difficult. This is because; they have to sell the animals for
wholesalers for lower price. Addition to that, the wholesalers tend to paid in credit and
late. Nowadays, they will buy the animals from Kamran Farm. To reduce the costs, they
will fetch the animals at the LCCT, KLIA.
Beef cattle from Thailand will be quarantine at Padang Besar or Rantau Panjang.
After days of quarantine, the animal will be transported using Lorries to Gombak Agrofarm. Each animal that come to farm will have its own certificate of health. All the
animals that come to the farm will be reached at night to reduce heat stress to the
animals.

Only animal that reach one year old above will be buy. This is because, the
minimum animal age that can be slaughter for Aqiqah and Qorban is one year old for
goat and sheep. As for cattle, the age required is 2 years. After fattening, the animal will
reach around 2 years old.
Processes of buying the animals are done in proper way. Despite of all the
quarantined process and presence of health certificate, some animals are still affected
by some diseases such as Foot and Mouth Disease (FMD) and cataract.

Chapter 3
Introduction of slaughter
3.1 Definition of slaughter:
In Arabic called mean slaughtering or cleaning means, the cleaning of dirt and
excrement that cut parts of the neck of an animal by certain people with specific tools.
Slaughtering according to Islamic laws that could mean slaughter a animal controlled
and should be eaten with a decided vein Adams apple, merikh vein and two blood
vessels to the left and right neck of the animal (eating and drinking vessels). Slaughter
is one way to ensure that animals and justifies his flesh. The slaughter of Muslims
differentiate and take into account how the taking of life or death of animals fines of this
technique is a train to educate the soul of every Muslims is a compassionate, disciplined
and responsible. Animals that eat halal by Islamic law, if not slaughtered, the meat will
be deemed to be illegal because the carcasses while the carcass is illegal in the
eating4.
3.2 The proposition that lawful slaughter5:
so eat of (halal slaughter of animals) that mentioned the name of Allah, if you are
believers in His revelations.

and do not eat (halal slaughter of animals) that are mentioned the name of Allah, for
surely such an act evil.
Anything that can drain the blood, and mentioned to him the name of good, then eats
it.
3.3 Pillars of slaughter6:
Fundamental slaughter consists from 4 things:
1) Slaughter
2) Tools slaying
3) Method of slaughter
4) Animal carcasses
3.3.1 Explanation of the slaughter rule7
Slaughter:
1) Muslim and understanding. Non-Muslims, the insane, drunk, and children who
have not known to different the good or bad thing invalid because the sacrifice of
sacrifice is one way to God taabudthat requires intent. Slaughtering the blind is
disapproved. In the blind slaughter is illegal to use either the arrow or because
the hunter is maintained between the conditions can be seen.

Equipment slaying

2) Slaughter uses sharp knives to be examined to determine uric always correctly.
3) Sharpness of the blade should be maintened because each had decided to ban
the slaughter of feathers animals such as chickens before the blade touched the
skin of animals to hurt.
4) Equipment must be ensuring clean slaughter of bloodstained.
Method of slaughter:
1) Decided halqum (respiratory tract) and two vein Mars (channels of food and
drink) are located under halqum. Justice decides two left and right vein is
recommended. However, we are encouraged to cut both the blood vessels
that quickly invoked dead.
Animal carcasses:
1) Land animals example chicken, beef, goat and other.
2) Slaughter the halal animals.
3) There is still life mustaqirrah.
4) Animal must healthy and not diseased.

3.4 Legal terms of slaughter8:
Conditions to justify the slaughter were:
1) Intent: the butcher must perform the slaughter of any conscious intent or
purpose of what he was doing it. If someone slaughtered not for Allah or for idols
or cult, it is unlawful and illegal slaughter of edible flesh.
2) Expedite the release or animal spirits and nerves with decided halqum Mars.
3) There is still life mustaqirrah
4) Animals that eat halal by the Islamic
5) Slaughter made the cut only once and it can be done repeatedly without lifting a
knife or slaughters tools.
Law relating to the slaughter:
The circumcision of slaughter9:
1) Bismillah for Syafie and Maliki schools, but compulsory for the Hanafi ang
Hambali.
2) Read prayers to the Prophet Muhammad after read Bismillah.
3) Circumcision knife so sharply honed. Using a sharp tool is required slaughter by
Islamic law that does not punish the animal. Disapproved if the slaughter is a
bunt instrument.

3.5 Items disapproved in slaughter:
1) Not reading bismillah

3.6 Advantages of slaughter10:
1) To release an animals life with easy way, do not hurt and painful.

painful. Islam commands to kill animals and decorum.
4) Expressing kindness to animals and nurture the soul of good in human relations
5) Distinguish the of Non-Muslims
6) Blood does not flow out from the smell of blood that comes out (frozen) with themeat can be stored for a longer time and quality.

4.0 Management of the slaughtering process in Gombak Agro
Gombak Agro is a company that supplies and imports livestock to be made as an
akikah and qurban. Also, Gombak Agro supplies a livestock for customer that makes
catering, wedding or any festival and ceremony. Gombak Agro just import the
appropriate male cattle intended for slaughter. Because of that, Gombak Agro
provided service for slaughter at their farm. Most customers come to buy the
livestock and want the worker at Gombak Agro to perform the slaughtering process
although some customers make slaughter on their own. Most customers of Gombak
Agro Farm come at weekend because as we know, only during the weekend
Malaysian people are free. The slaughter process at Gombak Agro is done manually
and not using mechanical methods.
According to the survey authors during the conduct of industrial training in the
Gombak Agro Farm, slaughtering process done there is according to Islamic law. To
identify further, the author focuses on four aspects regarding slaughtering. They are
butcher, animal, place and matters of slaughter.
4.1 Butcher
Based on the experience of the author during a training industry there, the butcher at
Gombak Agro has met the conditions as a butcher. As we know, butcher is one of
the conditions of lawful slaughter. Requirements to be a butcher is a Muslim,
understanding that good or bad, and not crazy. Slaughterers in Gombak Agro are
Muslims, baligh and understands and have gone to slaughtering courses organized
by the state religious department. Also, butcher from Gombak Agro know how to do

a slaughtering. Some customers want to do slaughter by their own. It is not false but
they must know how to slaughter and most of them expert about it.
4.2 Animal
For the animal aspect, all animals that are imported into the farm, the animal will be
quarantined to ensure that animal health is in good condition. When passed health
tests during quarantine, the animal will be put into the Farm. Before the slaying
occurrs, the management of Gombak Agro would apply permit the slaughter and the
health of the domestic animal department for the purpose of slaughter and the
animal health status. After the permit application process finish, the process of
slaughter will do. It claimed in Islam because the animal to be slaughtered must be
in good health to avoid diseases that can cause harm to the public. In conditions of
slaughter, animal that want to slaughter must be in good health.
4.3 Place of slaughter
According to observation of the author, the place of slaughter at Gombak Agro is
always clean. After slaughter, the workers will clean the blood, skin, born or anything
related to the animal. It is because, they want the place to always be clean and they
dont want flying to come and swarm the place. Also, they dont want any animal like
dogs, chicken came and dirty the place. Besides that, the place faces the direction of
the qiblah. Facing that direction is one of the things recommended while
slaughtering.
4.4 Matters happen at Gombak Agro while process slaughtering
However, there are some problems and shortcomings that need to be resolved to
enable the system and processes in the Gombak Agro more systematic and more
efficient. Among the problems identified before and during the slaughter process are:

4.4.1 The permit slaughter
Each slaughter must have a valid permit from the animal department. However, the
Gombak agro can not meet those conditions if the customer comes and wants the
animal is slaughtered immediately. This is an issue that needs resolution and
discussion of the Gombak Agro and animal department.
4.4.2 Place the open slaughter
Slaughter purposes is open, the place is not open to the public but open to the
animals at the farm. Slaughtering in front of other animal is a makruh.
4.4.3 Shortage of slaughterers
At Gombak Agro, only one person has credentials of slaughter. It is one thing that
management of Gombak Agro must overcome because every week around 10 to 20
animals are being slaughtered. Management of Gombak Agro must hire one or two
person that has credentials of slaughter.

CHAPTER 5
Suggestions to improve and solve the problems of slaughtering at Gombak
Agro:
1) To solve the matter of permit for slaughterers, Gombak Agro can apply for
slaughtering house service from the reliable source. This way, the slaughtering
process can be done quickly and meet with the standards.
2) Gombak Agro has to build walls to divide the slaughtering place from animals
pen to avoid being seen by other animals during the slaughtering process.
3) For the problem of shortage of slaughterers, the company can hire an
undergraduate that has followed the course for slaughtering or send their
workers for this course.
5.1 Conclusion
As an undergraduate of Quranic and Sunnah studies, the author hopes that the
university can cooperate with Gombak Agro to expose students in involving
themselves to do practical slaughtering. This way, it offers a career option for
students in this course.
For Gombak Agro, this suggestion can widen the target market and sales target
to all coners of the country. Besides that, it can help undergraduate who are
interested in this business to know more about this industry.
